Rosetreefest was GREAT!!! :)

After a bit of an adventure driving there (Gumbo was nice enough to give me a ride) over the bridge, we got there about 11:30ish.

The gallery is a wonderful old converted movie theatre and is light and bright and full of Rosy's gorgeous glass art.

It was excellent to get to see him and his lovely wife, Brenda (Mrs. Rosetree) in their native habitat. They were both very generous, gracious and patient hosts with the most!

There was a table set up with things to nosh: muffalettas, REAL cracklins (now I know what the hooha is!), pastries and danishes. Also a variety of beverage options: bubbly, Abita (the Cajun Bubbly), orange juice, sodas, coffee, Bailey's(!).

We were able to see the storeroom/workroom as well as the firing/blowing area where the several large and extremely hot ovens are. We got to meet some of the artisans who work with Rosy (Hey, Joe!) and who help him create the beautiful glass.

There was also a great video featuring Rosy and how he creates his work that was cool to watch.

The toughest thing about the day, was choosing which glass pieces to buy (just ask the Festingators ;)) - but I'm very pleased with the ones I got!

Thanks, Rosy (you're a mensch!) and Mrs. Rosy for the perfect way to follow up the Patry and Roux Ga Roux - I not only look forward to seeing you at Fest this weekend, but also next year at the Second Annual Rosetreefest ;) :D

Well, I'm sitting here at mom's and it's nasty outside. Got in the car to go to Walmart and the battery is dead. Thank goodness my mom's neighbor is a mechanic. He supposed to come over here in about an hour and check it for me. In the nice weather. What a nice guy. Hope I don't have to waste money buying a new battery! Think I'm gonna pick me up some "nice weather" boots while I'm at Walmart, too.

I stopped at Walmart and the gas station with no trouble. Apparently, that was what was wrong. So now I'm about to make my Crawfish Monica and hope this inclement weather ends SOON!

Oh, and I got me some spiffy new ra*n boots from Walmart so I'm just gonna have me a good time kicking around at fest today. :D

Anyway, that was the worst weather I've ever poured beer in...we worked for 1-1/2 hrs. standing in cold water up to our knees, soaking wet...got so cold we had to give up and leave the fairgrounds or we would have ended up with hypothermia. Like you said...tomorrow WILL be better!

RT...can't believe that you didn't lose any pieces in that wind. We had set up two of those pop-up canopies for workers to sit under, and for the cash operation...then the wind/rain came...I ran over, garbbed one of them in the center and held on for dear life...two others grabbed the other one...and in less that 5 min., both of them just snapped off...the metal actually failed. I thought we were headed for a toronado. All I could think about was your glass hitting the asphalt. We came by around 3:30 to check on you before we left, but you were buttoned up tight. Glad to know you had no damage. See you tomorrow.

Scoop, it never got sunny and beautiful again today. As soon as we thought the rain was over, wam...here it came again. We saw on the news that they were able to get the main stages open again for the last acts, but many bands were cancelled. A number of food/drink booths closed early. Truthfully, with the lighting and all the standing water, it was very unsafe. One strike on the ground and it would have been a major scene. Lots of power outages throughout town, many flooded and closed roads, flooded cars, etc.

It was the worst I've ever seen out there. The acts in the tents continued but the outdoor stages only had the first acts and then the last two I think. It was crazy! But what I love are the smiles and laughter when the r**n ends....like the people who stayed enjoy what's left twice as much.

Old news now but I'm so, so sorry I dissed WWOZ. Nothing to do with them and of course we will continue to support them. HOBastids decided our tickets weren't valid and nor was my ID for proof of purchase AFTER we were already in the Parish and enjoying ourselves. Booted my fat ass out! Didn't bother showing up for another show we had booked there. I was pretty upset at the time, but honestly... after I ranted we headed out again and had a great night.

Home now and only remembering the good stuff! Cheers!

Could I have a virtual wine and start to get virtually drunk, while I have real wine and get really drunk in real life.

Here's to the completion of a happy and fun fest.

Oh, Vance Vaucresson made the NBC Nightly News tonight. Nice story from fest. Looked like a beautiful day and Vance seems like a wonderful man and he looked busy too. :)

DT, I was standing in that water with ya at Ms Lena's and all I could think about was if we all got electrocuted, there'd be a bunch of T'heads raising cold cold beers in our honor at every fest there after.

morning ya'll! Gris Gris THANKYOU so much for my lagniappe! I'm not suffering from any sunburn on account of loads & loads of sunscreen but my clothing has been permanently stained ... /shrugs/ so much for white shirts.

I'm on a manhunt for a ring I saw in NOLA and trying to find the shop online or at a least a phone# I think I may not have much luck but I'll give it a shot. There was a jewelry shop on the "west"(I think) side of Royal in between Toulouse & St Anns ... it was a dark & old with lots of stuff but I saw this ring in the window and have not stopped thinking about since I tried it on. It is a petite fluer de lis with tiny diamonds set in white gold.(there actually another one just like but it had purple jewels of somekind) It was $700.00 and was just too much at that time and the owner was easily frustrated with me and Craig wouldn't let me buy anyway. Craig was put off by owner's frustration and quickly escorted me outta there. I was seeing stars & hearing angels sing at that point & was oblivious! We kept looking around town but saw nothing compared to this ring. Everything else I've seen is very chunky or masculine ... even Faget Mignon(SP?) This was during our last hours in nOLA so I didn't have time to return to the shop ...:( So anyway i'm trying to find out the name of the biz ... is anyone familiar? Maybe I should start a new thread with this question? but wasn't sure this deserved a whole thread of it's own .... thanx for any input ya'll!

Your welcome Blue Dog. I'm not sure of the name of the store you are looking for but New Orleans Gem & Lapidary had a ring kind of like that. They had it in diamonds & CZ's. They are at 527 St Phillip St. 504-524-9595. Good luck.

I did just get someone in here looking for a last minute gift.
I prefer to spend my weekends with my family. My FIL was a jeweler who ran his own shop for many years. He spent a lot of time in his store making money during Mother's Day, Christmas etc. Brenda even tells stories of him leaving holiday dinner to open up for customers. That is not the life I wanted, and made a conscious effort since the kids were born to have "family" time. I'm pretty happy with my choice! :D ;)

Listen Missy....I am a pro!!! LOL

I'm re-reading this...does this sound harsh???? I hope not, if you know me, I'm not like that.......still luv ya Barb!

Your welcome Blue Dog. I'm not sure of the name of the store you are looking for but New Orleans Gem & Lapidary had a ring kind of like that. They had it in diamonds & CZ's. They are at 527 St Phillip St. 504-524-9595. Good luck.

It could also be Wellington & Co at 505 Royal Street.....

Yup I do tonights the finale. I want to see Yow man or Dreamz win. I'll puke if Cassandra wins.(shes a coat tail rider)

I love this show! I hope it never ends. My favorite is Boo . . . you know he's a Louisiana boy, huh? And he's way too cute! He's been coming on strong the last two episodes and I like the underdog factor with him.

Of course, I love Yau man, too. He is way beyond adorable and has much heart. And he's a brilliant strategist and isn't doing too bad in the challenges, either. And what a brilliant move to negotiate with the truck and then send himself to Exile Island. You can't help but love him.

The two I can't stand are Cassandra and Dreamz. She to me is the biggest fake with that "uh huhhh" all the time and she just betrayed her alliance with Earl and Yau by voting off Yau at TC. And Dreamz is just flying by the seat of his pants, lol. I do hope he honors his word. I hope Earl and Yau pick up Boo as their swing vote and put Cass and then Dreams down. But you just never know what's gonna happen! Tonight will be awesome. I cannot wait to see the finale.

Happy Mother's Day, people! :p

Then I made grilled bratwurst, red hot potatoes and smothered cabbage with blueberry iced tea for Sunday dinner . . . delicious. It has been a beautiful, gorgeous, sunny day. Oh yea, and for dessert I made strawberry shortcakes w/cream cheese ice cream instead of cool whip. :)

Ugh, PC, I'm really disgusted that Dreamz went back on his word, and Earl violated Yauman's trust too. Cassandra has done nothing to deserve any money. I guess Earl would be the one I'd want to see win now . . . They're in jury questioning right now.

I loved how he asked Dreamz about being a Christian!!!!

I might have to make me a little road trip to Lafayette. ;)

Disgusted doesn't begin to cover it. I wouldn't spit on Dreamz if he were on fire. I've been watching Survivor from Season 1 and this is the ONLY time I've ever left feeling bad and totally disgusted.

And Yau man has such class. I want to send him money right now. Not only did Dreamz reneg on the deal, he voted him off and he's keeping the truck! Karma, baby. That truck will end up being a big albatross for him. What a role model.

I loved Boo at final TC! Smokin' . . . :D

Your so fickeled. What about Tab? You'll break his heart;) .

I was sooooooo dissapointed with dreamz. I guess Earl was the best of the ones left to win but I think we all agree the yao man desserved it ,more then anyone else.

Yep, Dreamz never had a chance of winning with all of the people he screwed; all he did was pass the win from Yau, who gave him the truck to Earl, who hadn't done anything for him. Brilliant move. Classy man that Yao. He'll be back for an all stars survivor.
