My kayaking is tomorrow, but Denbear and I will be driving down to the City today and staying with a friend of mine. Besides me getting several things on sale (they even had those huge containers of strawberries for a $1!), I got everything I was looking for, too. I even got some killer capri pajamas on sale for $7! And the very best thing was I went by the bakery and the lady just got through baking some chocolate-filled croissants and I got one fresh made. It was still warm. Whewwww. Damn, that thing was GOOD! And when I went outside, it had stopped raining. lol, I actually left Walmart today happy and smiling. :)

I'd just like to say that I just made a salmon filet pan seared in a bit of olive oil, some boiled taters that i then browned in my cast iron skillet with a little butter and garlic and then drizzled with just a bit of balsamic vinegar and some broccoli sauteed with olive oil and garlic and it was delicious.

Thank you and carry on.

Whale watching, you shush silly!! :)

Real estate's definitely coming back now that it's spring, we got a lot of things upgraded on the house while folks were here, so busy now that we'll proabably wait til after fest to list.

Got the word Thursday that I have the choice at work of structuring an alternative arrangement of my choice until our biz picks up or getting a nice package if I want to go -- I've been thinking and haven't said it yet, but I'm wanting to go home and the timing and all just seems like fate, eh??

Can't believe you're taking SIX bar exams. That's awesome. I'm sure you'll pass every one.

I finally put all my cruise pix in a beautiful photo album; that IS a project. But I'm so glad it's done. Now I need to catch upon all the rest. That will take forever. I think I should start a fest photo album. That would be cool.

Same sort of thing happened to Ken. He gave them a year's notice of retirement (so impulsive!) and then a few weeks later his boss told him the company in Europe wants to sell off PNG so shush on the retirement and pick up a redundancy... might have to work a few more months but worth it!

Then went back to ofoto and snapfish etc and ordered more pix in 3 batches, got the first of tose put in today. Anybody who comes to visit me had better plan on a few hours of forced viewing of my albums -- haha!

Scoop I emailed you about Ozzie and when we could meet up.

I'm good girl. I hope everything is okay out on the island. I understand that LI is going to get pounded with wind later. How close are you to the water?

Alot of standing water here. We have a retaining wall in the backyard that once held an above ground pool. 'Looks like an inground pool at the moment. The good news is the birds are still feeding (even attracted a red headed woodpecker with suet cake earlier). The bad news is Kevin is working a double with public service today. Not a good day to be on a pole handling high voltage power lines!

I'll email you from my home addy right now.

Hey kids !

What's up? I'm watchin' the rain.....had quite a weekend - ended up in the ER yesterday - thinkin' it was kidney stones - turns out to be massive back spasms.....took some nifty pain killers that I didn't like (WAAAAYYYYYYY too powerful for this chica) and am now sittin' it out for a few days on a low does anti-inflamatory.

Mr. Onj is in the kitchen fixing up some chicken mamou (paul prudhomme recipe - modified -without quite as much butter....)

I could, however, use a beer. The weather outside was just made for havin' a beer.

PS - PC - LOVE that dress - was looking at one online at Nordstrom's but that had sold out of my size - bad, bad, bad Nordstroms.

I kinda like it that dresses are back in style !

I'm cooking dinner and did laundry meself. The only difference is you got sunshine. Saw this recipe on CBS Morning Show yesterday. Deen brothers recipe. (Paula Deens sons) It sounded too good and easy to pass up so I'm trying it tonight. (cut down for just me)

ROASTED LEMON CHICKEN WITH RED GRAPES

Ingredients:

4 to 5 pounds chicken drumsticks and thighs (bone in) / or 1 whole chicken cut into pieces
1 clove garlic, halved
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 pounds seedless red grapes
1 teaspoon sugar

Method:

1. Preheat over to 425 degrees. Rinse chicken and pat dry with paper towels. Rub the chicken pieces all over with the cut sides of the garlic clove. Place chicken in a large bowl.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of the melted butter, the lemon zest, and lemon juice; season generously with salt and pepper. Pour the butter mixture over the chicken pieces and toss to coat.

3. In a separate bowl, toss together the grapes, the remaining two tablespoons melted butter, and the sugar. Season the grapes with salt and pepper. Arrange the grapes in the bottom of a 9-by-13 baking pan.

4. Place the chicken on top of the grapes. Roast, without turning, for 40 to 45 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and the juices run clear when chicken is pricked with a fork.

Makes 4 to 6 servings

I'm shocked....especially Def Leppard. Did see an abbreviated Bon Jovi show in Times Square. I can't remember if it was for the Grammys or MTV awards. They did about 4 songs and they were fun too. 'Bad Medicine' is an admitted guilty pleasure of mine by them. 'Photograph' and 'Let's Get Rocked' by Leppard and I think 'Cold Gin' is my favorite Kiss song.

She wound up being a professional seamstress well into her 80's at a men's store. She's been widowed many years and has had several rest home beaus in her time.

We asked her the secret of her long life? She said "be happy and mind your own business"!

VWGal
04-15-2007, 11:46 PM
That is actually a great idea RT -- I sat my mom and dad down over 15 years ago and got their stories on tape, all the famous ones that we'd heard while growing up. It took a while to get them to warm up and tell those tales with enthusiasm, I think they were nervous with the tape recorder on. My dad passed away in 1992, and my mom has Alzheimers, so those stories are precious.

A little side tale: we went to see my mom in the home where she now lives at 89 years of age. She hasn't known us for some years now, and she is now having trouble stringing together words to make sentences. But unbelievably, she can still play harmonica! We got her started, and there we were, rolling her down the hallway in her wheelchair while she played several note-perfect verses of Battle Hymn of the Republic. Our entire family is musical and like so many in her era, playing an instrument was something everyone did to amuse themselves.

My sister and I managed to hold onto our tears until we were outside, but that was some moment for us!
