As a fellow Yankee fan, I'm feeling good about our boys' wildcard chances.
But, do you realize that, as AL Wildcard, they'll have to play the friggin' Angels, opening in Anaheim? Even if they can beat LAA, the games will on too late for us to watch them do it.

We fear no team now.........we have "Lucky" the squirrel.
http://migames.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/amd_backpage09_05.jpg
From PAGE 4 !!! of today's Daily News....
“Lucky” the squirrel is 4-for-4. The brazen squirrel has appeared atop the right-field foul pole at Yankee Stadium four times this season, and each time the Bronx Bombers have won.
The bushy-tailed spectator, roosting high above the crowd on his yellow perch, has become such a fan favorite that he got a standing ovation during Tuesday night’s 12-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.
“Let’s hope he doesn’t hibernate and will be around for the playoffs,” said Yankee fan Meghan Cannella, 27, of Manhattan.
Cannella and her sister Katelyn, 21, have season tickets next to the soaring right-field foul pole and first noticed the furry fan on Opening Day in April, when the Yankees beat Tampa Bay, 9-5. They said fans were initially taunting the squirrel to jump.
“If he’s good luck, we don’t want him to jump,” Katelyn said. “We might as well call him Lucky. Whenever he’s around, we win.” Lucky also appeared at the Stadium on June 8, when the Yanks beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4.
The daring critter showed up in his sky-high seat on Aug. 28 to watch the Yanks beat Boston, 5-3, sparking deafening cheers when he was put on the scoreboard video screen. The next day, the rodent’s antics were featured on NBC’s “Today” show, during which hosts Matt Lauer and Ann Curry called the media darling “cute.” “Probably the fans at Yankee Stadium yelled all kinds of obscenities to it,” Lauer said. “That’s all right, that’s normal.”
Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon said he fed the cuddly creature sunflower seeds before the Boston game and then slugged an upper-deck homer that went right over the squirrel’s head. “From what I hear, he’s been bringing us good luck,” Damon said. “We think it’s the same squirrel. I know they’re roaming around here.”
Bombers first baseman Andy Phillips sounded a little jealous. “The animals get more attention than us,” Phillips said with a chuckle, adding that the Yankees should somehow get Lucky in pinstripes. “It certainly is marketable,” Phillips said.
Lucky didn’t turn up last night, but the Bombers managed to beat the Seattle Mariners, 10-2, anyway. Some Yankee fans have just gone nutty over the adventurous animal.
“That’s Phil Rizzuto up there,” said sheet-metal worker John Allegretti, 46, of Staten Island, referring to the legendary Yankee shortstop and broadcaster who died on Aug. 13. Allegretti’s friend Herman Ramirez, 46, of Old Bridge, N.J., said he has nicknamed the squirrel “Scooter” after Rizzuto.
But David Powell, assistant curator of the Bronx Zoo’s mammal department, said the squirrel probably isn’t even a baseball fan. He said the squirrel is likely more interested in the smorgasbord of leftovers littering the stands. “For now, it’s working for him and helping him prepare for the winter,” Powell said. “This is probably just a transient animal who might move on once it really gets cool.”

Oh, you emailed about the equine virus and you said it was affecting racing but I'm used to U.S. racing. Triple Crown and Breeders Cup are the biggies but otherwise the ponies are a small blip on the U.S. sports radar. I knew the Melbourne Cup was huge but didn't realize how big the rest was. Sorry for my ignorance. Hope things recover, especially for the Cup.
And if they do I'll be more than happy to pick a horse guaranteed to finish fifth. :)
I still have a message on my machine from my oldest brother from the Kentucky Derby. Told him that a horse, Cowtown Cat was a LOCK!! (I liked the name) Finished last out of 20 horses, something like 56 lengths behind. The message is basically 2 minutes of slightly inebrieated mocking and laughter at my horse and me. It's a classic.
Hope things are getting better horsewise.

Call me crazy, but I think he will. And speaking of Ernie Banks, I went to a Mets-Giants game many years ago with an ex. She loved Will Clark. We scalped tickets, not great seats. but they were honoring the Negro Leagues that night, so many of the great players were there, both those from the Negro Leagues and those who would have never gotten the chance to play in the majors if it wasn't for them. Seats weren't great, but a gentlemen sits down in the row in front of us and sure enough it's Ernie Banks. He signed my ticket (which unfortunately I don't have any more) but that doesn't matter. He was just the nicest, accomodating man you'd ever want to meet. It was an honor to meet him and shake his hand. Cause he was from the days when I knew not only the Giants players and stats, but every other great player. I think back and baseball still has a hold on me, but man when I was a kid...wow.

Not very classy......boo when they stink but show a little class. From what I read the backup had a great preseason and now all the fans are hot for him to play.

Sorry for the delay...went out to see the subdudes last night (they were sublime! Played the old ones, the new ones, and the new new ones. Came back for two encores! They played such a great set and the house was going ap*sh*t over them.) & went to a blues fest this afternoon in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Hot & muggy.
Came home, turned on the TV, and watched the last 44 laps of a race in Chicago with my dog. Stupidest finale to a race I've ever seen...the driver who'd been in the lead for the longest time gets to about a 1/4 mile of the checkered flag and...and...runs out of gas???:) OMG...Whadda you gonna do, call AAA?
I liked the Mariners' spring picks and I love Ichiro! They've been on a losing streak recently. One of the worst in baseball history.
Anyway, I seem to have a knack for picking teams who have the ability to just louse things up for the winning teams. (See Cincinnati Reds). The Reds have had a major problem, *cough cough* pitching, that hasn't been addressed for quite a few years. I don't get it.
That was a pretty mean thing I said about Lucky the Squirrel. I mean, we don't even know for sure if he has rabies or not. He's probably just acting weird from all the bright lights and drinking leftover beer spilled by the fans. :)

Too bad, the Giants were looking good and on track to beat the Evil Cowboys. :(

Love the Barefoot Chard, and of course "Two Buck Chuck", but I splurged to tonight and spent 6.99 (gasp!) on a Spanish wine. Osborne Solaz, 80% Tempranillo, 20% Cab........not bad, pretty tasty. Never gone wrong with wines from Spain. Tasty, but reasonably priced.
How's everybody doin?

I've actually been toying with idea of adopting a cat. But I have to think long and hard since I have a hard enough time taking care of myself. :) I'm more of a dog person but being single and not at home minimum 10 hrs out of the day, that's impossible. But I want to be absoutely sure before a cat comes into the picture. That's not a whim, or a mood aquisition.
I can safely say I haven't considered a cell phone. :)
