It was a vacation...going to Boy Scout camp with my son in the Appalachians is a nice break from work. We had a great time...went white-water rafting, hiking, (I napped a lot ;) :D). It was nice not having to see news from here and not worry 'bout work.

I've never done white water rafting only lazy strokes down river in a canoe. I bet that was exciting! we are vacationing just across the big bridge here out to da beach ... a very touristy beach:rolleyes: but it's a free stay in a "phat" condo on Clearwater beach. A much needed vaca for the hubby ... but I bet he works while we're there though ... in fact I'd put money on it.

A few years ago I did a long weekend in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Got a bare bones cabin close to the highest point in the park, near the lodge for dining and such. Took the trail to the absolute top (4000 or so feet) over looking the Shenandoah Valley, and sure enough a few minutes later a guy show up and starts yapping on his cell phone.

How I didn't throw him and the #$%%ing phone off the mountain is beyond me.

We camped in the northern corner of GA by NC. We did have coons in our site and Bambi came by too! I don't fish. We had 40 boys and 20 Dads so it was a blast. Just got back from the wilderness area of Ontario, CA. Paddled 126 miles in 9 days....totally destroyed my left knee portaging....looks like surgery soon as they can do an MRI and find out just went wrong...

Family's great. They had a blast while I was gone...got YT a new car day before I left and spent three hours teaching him how to drive a manual...he's got it! ST is lovely as usual...

Thanks for asking. Don't know 'bout Satchmo yet. We are going to St. Augustine for a week that ends 8/4 so doubt that we'll head straight to N.O....but who knows?

Hey MGbaby: The scouting trip was real good...had a lot of time to sit and do nothing...my kind of vacation! Went hiking and white water rafting, and had some good quality time with Rosebuddy.
I think that you are right about the last raffle pieces--all went out and there is peace in the valley.;)
Your timing is impecable! We are working on the Mardi Gras Pumpkins today, so I should have the final tweaking done this afternoon! Keep an eye out for them, I will be posting the finished pieces!:D

SPRINGFIELD — Ever wondered what beer-and-doughnut ice cream might taste like?

No?

Well, despite that grimace, you're probably wondering a little right now, and Saturday will be your chance to taste the unlikely blend of flavors as Ben & Jerry's unveils a special, one-time-only Homer Simpson-inspired ice cream flavor during the celebration of the Simpsons movie premier.

The flavor, called Duff & D'oh-Nuts, is described by the company as a combination of chocolate and cream stout ice creams with glazed chocolate doughnuts. Homer Simpson, the overweight, dopey father in the longstanding popular Fox cartoon, has a penchant for beer and doughnuts.

The reactions Wednesday to the flavor by a handful of Springfieldians ranged from bemused to frightened.

"Wow," said Lois Smith, a bookkeeper at the town office. "Nasty. Chocolate with cream stout beer? No. That's just wrong."

Normally, Smith said, she likes Ben & Jerry's.

"I just don't like beer in ice cream," she said. "And doughnuts?"

However, Smith admitted she probably would try the flavor.

"I'd try anything," she said.

Ron Hoffman, produce buyer at the Springfield Co-op, started laughing as the flavor was described to him. "I should have known," he chuckled after hearing the word "doughnuts." "It's nothing I'd be interested in."Hoffman, too, said he was a fan of the Vermont-based ice cream-maker.

"Generally, I like stuff like their coffee ice cream," he said. "I'm not a fan of the chunky stuff — too much candy."

Sean Greenwood, a Ben & Jerry's spokesman, said he had just tried a sample on Wednesday afternoon — and, aye carumba, he enjoyed it.

"We definitely have some folks here who have some experience in combining flavor," he said. "It's got kind of a grainy chocolate taste, a little wheaty. Then you get this blast of doughnut that comes through with every bite. The doughnut is sweeter than the ice cream."

Greenwood said the company will have people who want more familiar ice cream flavors covered, with plenty of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream — renamed "Chocolate Chip Cookie D'oh" in honor of one of the show's catchphrases.

"It's part of the top all-time line-up," Greenwood said of the cookie dough ice cream. "We think we're going to hit people plenty with that."

Greenwood also said the beer-and-doughnut ice cream was far from the most unusual one-day-only offering produced at Ben & Jerry's.

"We've done some pretty wacky flavors in the past," he said. "We've done hot chocolate, which was chocolate with chili powder, jalapeno lime. … We've had chips 'n' dip that was an onion ice cream flavor. We thought this was an event that justified another crazy concoction."

(Not homemade...just spooned out some Hellmann's and mixed in some ground chipolte pepper and minced fresh garlic. And an ear of corn grilled in the husk on my cast iron grill pan. Not the real thing but pretty damn tasty! Just gotta get better bread next time.

I am making a nice Jamaican Rum Cake. I used Malibu, captain and dark rum. I also put some in the cake!
I layered the bottom with chopped pecans and will top it with some rum glaze while still piping hot!

You got it babe! The glaze is made with butter, confectioners sugar and malibu rum!!! Topped it with more crushed pecans. It looks heavenly. can't wait to eat some.

I'm working hard trying to get my new work together for my wholesale show next week. I'm going back and forth on the Mardis Gras pumpkins....I need to write up some press releases for my PR kit.
