For me, the fact that LMF survived Katrina and competition from major corporations, is enough. What a story... are you listening Chris Rose? I love that place. If anyone hasn't been to an in-store there... you're missing one of the true treasures of the NO experience.

I'm in contact with barry smith thru email for the www.jazzfestgrids.com so as soon as he's ready, we'll have them! Also in contact with good rockin records for their instores-they said probably just book signings. also in contact with borders for their tent cd signing schedule.

If you want to shop for cds, you better get there before the instores start because you won't be able to get to the bins once they do. Better yet, just make a list and order online once you get back home. Extend the permagrin for several more months.

It is going to be a drag not having the Tower Records In-Stores this year. I liked to break my day up by going between LMF and Tower. Every time I went to Virgin, nothing was going on. Good Rockin' only seems to have signings these days, its a very small store.
We've lost most of our Record Stores here in Los Angeles, both Independent & National chains, it's really disappointing. Hopefully we can keep LMF alive and strong, I know our support during Jazz Fest makes up the largest sales period of their year. The Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, especially considering how rude some of the customers are.

You don't need to apologize, Jenni. Every newcomer to the bored has to spend some time here before catching on to the general vibe. Sarcasm runs through many of these threads, and you'll recognize it soon enough.

Folks like you are the guardians of the flame that the rest of us drop in on from time to time to warm our souls. While we may show up every so often to poke at the fire or even toss on another log, it is the dedication of people like you that will keep the flame alive during the dark nights. This is a great thread.
What I've learned:
New Orleans isn't "new".
Louisiana Music Factory is not a "factory".
Jazz Fest is not "jazz". (This is only partially true. It's not just jazz.)

This is all true. I keep having to 'splain that to people all the time.

And beer at LMF? I think I had one with some fine folks from MD at OT. And then we went to Papa Mali. BugBob was there.

I didn't think that Big Sam looked all that impressed with her at LMF the time I saw her there. He looked a bit bemused by the whole thing.
Joe Krown and I just kept chuckling and making faces during her "performance". It was hilarious :)
