Sitting in

Been sitting in on some John Boutte gigs. what a different and beautiful world jazz is. It's the opposite approach to rock and roll in every way. John's drummer, Herman Le Beau is going on tour with Elvis Costello this summer and he asked me what I could tell him about playing rock and roll as compared to jazz. I told him to play like he did when he first learned how to play and was afraid of being found out, loud, hardand desperate. The guys in John's band are very cool to me and take time to teach me a little about their music whenever we play together, it's fun as well as an honor. Makes me glad to be home. I'll be playing with them at French Quarter Fest next week, what a joy to hear musician's of that caliber play mystuff. Last week at my Suday d.b.a. show David Torkanowski sat in on piano and accordian and took my breath away with what he brought to my stuff. Mark Mullins, Craig Klein and Matt Perrine will be backing me at the Concert in the Square series on the Wendsday between Jazz Fest. The Carrollton Station with my friends from Beatin' Path. That's a good few weeks in New Orleans for me. Hope life is flowing for ya'll as well. peace, Poppy
