Tina, you might want to let everyone know the location. The other thread has it located at the Oak Tree at LA Folklife Village. Is this between Fais Do Do stage and the record tent?

I think so. I understand they have a chapel or something of that nature (probably a tent) set up for weddings! We are closing on our new house on the 30th and then heading to NOLA to get hitched!!! We are so in love we don't know what to do with ourselves!!!

Not a bad idea registering at Miss Lena's beer register. Didn't think of that one myself. We are going to have so much fun. We're having Tshirts made with our photo and Tony & Tina on the front and on the back Jazz Fest date and on our butts it'll say Just Married. I'll wear bells on my tennis shoes and he'll wear a whistle hanging from his belt, you'll have to guess the rest. Don't it sound like a hoot!!!!

There's a great Off-Broadway play called "Tony and Tina's Wedding" that has been a big hit all around the country - it's really imaginative and funny!
Rosy posted the link for the play's website, but they also did a film version:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375145/
I'm kind of amazed too that no-one else has mentioned it to you guys (y'all being a really-real Tony and Tina after all) . . . :D

Tony of TnT here now:
Love ya'll Threadheads. Never imagined such a place existed. I am a nine year JF veteran. Wanted to take my bride here for the first time and you have made us so welcome. We cannot wait to meet everyone of you...to step on the glass, to guzzle the beers, to meet Swag and the Rev. and 10,000 of our closest friends.
Your love and generousity is overwhelming!!!
To Festngator if you really want to make us a wedding CD we love Joss Stone, John Mayer, ZZ Top, Steely Dan, The Dirty Dozens, The Allman Brothers, Galatic, Stanley Durall (Buckwheat Zydeco), BeauSoleil, Taj Mahal, Terrance Simien, Eric Lindell, George Bensen, Balfa Toujours, John Mooney, and anything else you feel is special for the CD. We thank you in advance for your support and generousity, you are a wonderful person and we can't wait to meet you.
Believe it or not, we have never heard of "Tony and Tina's Wedding" but we are the real deal and we are so much more fun than the play!!!
Can't wait to do the deal and meet all of you!
With all of our advance love,
TnT (Pet De Kat)

Well, thank you Reverend Bohn! You are all already so special to us... we feel the LOVE! We are listening to The Dirty Dozen right now, to get in the feeling mood. Tina says, "I am a victim of circumstance... joy, joy, joy, joy" and our cheeks hurt from smiling so much!!!!!!!!!!!
We are already in y'alls debt, because you want to shower those special moments upon us :)
This will be my tenth JF and I already know it will be my best ever and one we will both never forget! Tina, especially, since it is her first and she so looks forward to being "de-virginized" and becoming a true "thread-head".
We are camping at St. Bernard State Park and want our Friday night to be a special night with each other, but thereafter we welcome everyone to come share our campfire and hospitality the rest of the weekend. Please party with us...bonfire, libations, jamming, singing and Dionystic revelry for the rest of the weekend!!!!
We cannot wait to meet all you very cool folks! :)

How do you put your pic on here
Hi, Tina -
What you need to do is create an account at a free online graphics hosting site (like Flickr or Photobucket, most of us use Photobucket) and then upload any graphics (photos, clip art, etc.) to it.
From there in your Forum profile settings, you can copy and paste the URL for your chosen picture in Photobucket to the Avatar field. However, it does need to be a certain size to work (80 x 80 pixels and less then 19 kbs).
If you have any additional questions or need further assistance - please feel free to let me know at red_beansandrice@yahoo.com (I'm a tech support person in my non-Jazzfest life) - I'm happy to help!

I looked at your site and you make really beautiful glassware, please don't make ours that pretty or I can't bring myself to break it.
Yours won't be quite that beautiful! It will have to be real thin so when you step on it, it will break. Most people use light bulbs. The ones on my site are pretty thick to get the layers of colors. I can make it one color if you like.
A friend of mine made the one that Mrs. RT and I stepped on. He was not a good glassblower, but a famous artist who paints on glass. He wanted to make the glass for us. He worked all day long trying to get a glass that was "good enough" by his standards, and thin enough to break. I will cherish the thought of him trying his damndest to make something that we would destroy later....

I came up with TnT and immediately thought of JJ from Good Times...we're DYNOMITE!!! We'd love to have that on your comp. ;) Also, if you can find it we would love "If You were a Bluebird" by Joe Ely (written by Butch Hancock). That's the song I plan to sing to Tina at our wedding!!!

OK if you have suggestions please email a mp3 file of the song for what appears to be a 4 or 5 cd set ( Dixie Cups would be helpful)
MOFRO does a good cover of the Good Times theme song.
And <checking cubes> based on the location of the ceremony, I think the wedding music will be provided by the Lost Bayou Ramblers.

Anyone else love the Moon Man? He's the REAL thing! I know him and word is that he sought out Son House in a rest home in Philly and learned his Delta licks, slide stylie..
Ken Burns' "History of the Blues" suggests that Son House was Robert Johnson's mentor. The time Robert went away and supposedly sold his soul to the devil and came back with an incredible talent.
We are new to this chat site and this should probably be a new thread, but I am just rambling now.

You mean John Mooney? If so, yes, I love his work!
Don't mean to be contrary, but, if I'm not mistaken, I believe it was in Rochester, NY where Mr. Mooney sought out Son House. He slept on the front porch until Mr. House agreed to accept him as a student. I think John Mooney was about 15 years old at the time.
I've had the pleasure of enjoying John Mooney's gifts on guitar going back to the 70s, when he played regularly in a small downtown bar called the Firebarn Tavern in Syracuse, NY. His music is a total joy to me.
I'd never before heard the tale of the connection between Robert Johnson and Son House, but it sure sounds interesting!

What a hoot! I'll keep my eyes out for y'all! Congratulations!

SophSis,
Of course, that's who I refer to. I know his bio says he is from Rochester, but my best friend Dana Kirkwood (Hogmire) went to high school with John in Honeyoid (sp?) Falls, NY and he later moved to Rochester.
I may be mistaken about Philly, but it wasn't in Rochester that he sought out Son (at least that was my understanding). It is semantics anyway...
Dana was a couple years behind Mooney in hs and he called John's group of friends "the Digits", b/c John always had his guitar across his back, saying "Dig it" as in the beatnic era...
But yes, Mooney was about 15 when he ran across Son House.
The Ken Burns doc featured about 5 seconds of Son House playing and said it was the only known footage of him. I immediately recognized the sound and first thought "Damn, he sounds just like Mooney". Of course, I immediately realized I had it backwards, but the similarity was unmistakeable!! NO ONE has that sound other than the Moon Man. If I get another chance I'll pin down John on the matter.
Did you see John at JF after he missed his 20th straight year there due to his addiction? When he came back I estimate there were 50,000 people in front of that small stage! He came out and sang "Sacred Ground" and kissed the stage and said how happy he was to be back in NO!
Then something really remarkable happened. He finished his set and was halfway down the gangplank from the stage with his handlers and he started fighting them and ran back to the stage. He said, "I have do one more for chiilin'.." The crowd went absolutely ballistic! He then performed 3 more songs.
I am sure you know the tight scheduling at JF and no one does encores, but he got away with it. I was so special, I will never forget it.
Anyway, I gush...

YYR, it was really special! An unforgettable performance at Jazz Fest by a true bluesman.
The last time I talked to him was outside Mid-City Lanes Rock 'N Bowl during J.F. '05. He was standing there with Jimmy Thackery and I got a chance to say hello to them.
One nite at Rock 'N Bowl, it was packed and I was watching JM during a beautiful solo. I noticed he looked down at the stage and started shaking his head and grinning ear to ear. I couldn't figure out why until I stood way up on my tip-toes and craned my neck.
At his feet, a chick in a black mini dress was worming her way across the stage on her belly to get to the Ladies' Room. She had been bowling and the place was packed all the way back past the bar, so she was taking a little shortcut! The whole band was cracking up, but they never missed a beat!
Anyway, he is one of those big-hearted performers I never get tired of seeing!

I haven't been to JF since 2002. Looking forward to an awesome redo this year and we really want to meet you there as well!!
I enjoyed your story of the bathroom slither ;) I saw Ronnie Dawson at JF. My friend Dana and I became pretty close friends with him and his wife Chris, and even hung out at their house in Dallas and at private affairs with them a few times before his untimely demise.

John Mooney is performing at the Southern Comfort Blues Tent on Sunday, April 29th from 2:40 to 3:40. I am immensely disappointed that we can only go the second weekend. This years entire lineup is the best I have ever seen. I had originally intended to go to MerleFest in NC this year for the first time until I saw the JF schedule! I will also be missing Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams, Richie Havens, Bonnie Raitt, Marcia Ball, and Rosie Ledet ...<big SIGH> I didn't see my favorite cajun band (Balfa Toujours) anywhere on the schedule this year or did I just overlook them?

It's a Threadhead thing from the old "bored" (board) where one could not edit posts. So there was a quite long list of humourous mispellings that occurred, usually when the writer was a little [ahem] impaired ;), and the new versions stuck with us.
"Patry" for party is one of those.
There is a whole Threadhead dictionary around here somewhere -- I will see if I can hunt it up.

A charivari is an old custom where people gather outside the place where a newly wedded couple is staying and "serenade" them. It usually involves banging pots together and ringing bells and is quite noisy! When my mother and father were married, my father took great pains to make sure no one found out where they were spending their wedding night.

Rev. Don,
We didn't realize this was the first TH wedding, we are SO HONORED!!!! I am sure you are already working on it, but Tina requests that you try to get the TV crew to record our wedding!!! She contacted 2 NO publications yesterday to try and get them to cover it as well. OffBeat was one she contacted. She hasn't notified the Picayune yet, but will :)
To Swag,
Tina serendipitously found your website and y'all caused all this to start rolling... It is beyond our wildest imagination!!! We are SO in LOVE and we love you guys too! Swag, Tina and I have already decided that when we meet you, you are going to get two big sloppy kisses on your cheeks simultaneously from us both (so be forewarned)!!! We need someone to take a pic of that special moment :)
Also, since we cannot bring our video camera we thought we would bring about 5 disposable cameras to capture our wedding. Can we get 5 TH's to volunteer to take pics with our cameras???
Tina and I planned to come to JF alone to get married by a minister. We were wondering if we needed "a" witness... now it appears that a hundred of our finest new friends will be there to witness this event. I truly makes me tear up!
We LOVE you guys!!!

I think so. I understand they have a chapel or something of that nature (probably a tent) set up for weddings! We are closing on our new house on the 30th and then heading to NOLA to get hitched!!! We are so in love we don't know what to do with ourselves!!!
there is a small wooden stage - sort of gazebo style but more rustic. a lovely spot for a wedding.
11 am is ambitious. i think the gates open around 10:45 and it can sometimes take a while to get in. Don is very familiar with arriving early - i'm sure he'll walk you through it all. but if others plan to be there at 11, they probably need to be in line by 10:30.

Well, the formal definition of a lagniappe is "Chiefly Southern Louisiana and Southeast Texas, a small gift given with a purchase to a customer, by way of compliment or for good measure; bonus." It really means to give or get a little something extra.
However, the lagniappe I'm talking about is a small gift or token that Threadheads like to exchange when we see each other every year at Jazzfest. Some threadheads bring pins, some bring little hot sauces, some bring nametags, some bring lip balm, travel-size tissues, toilet seat covers, cds, beers, etc. I'm not telling what I'm bringing; it's a surprise. You just bring whatever you feel like bringing or you don't have to bring anything at all. Do whatcha wanna. It's just a little tradition that the Threadheads have.
If I see you, I will give you one.
Also, you should post yall's picture here. I would love to see a picture of the two of you. :)

This is really just a bump, but I hope you enjoy it anyway:
I wandered so aimless, life filled with sin
I wouldn't let my dear Savior in
Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night
Praise the Lord, I saw the Light
I saw the Light, I saw the Light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the Light
Just like a blind man, I wandered alone
Worries and fears I claimed for my own
Then like the blind man who God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the Light
I saw the Light, I saw the Light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the Light
I was a fool to wander and stray
For straight is the gate and narrow's the way
Now I have traded the wrong for the right
Praise the Lord, I saw the Light
I saw the Light, I saw the Light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the Light
Tina and I (more me than she) were lost, but we finally discovered our true love in each other. And now we've found our home here as well :)

Miss Caroline might be real busy with family stuff this holiday weekend, if you want send me your photo at red_beansandrice@sbcglobal.net and I'd be happy to resize it for avatar usage (I've done it for several other Threadhead folk) and I'd be happy to do that (if nothing else) for you - as I won't be able to come and celebrate your wedding (as I'm volunteering at Ms. Lena's beverage tent)!!!

Tony and I went out dancing last night, he said he doesn't dance but he was a dancing fool last night...at any given moment I would turn around and he was grinding with a little old lady about 75 or in the middle of 4 blondes!!! He's so much fun to be with...we ran into some friends + one old girlfriend and we just had a blast together...I do believe we were OFFICIALLY slaggered!!!!

Tony and I spent our first Easter together with his family in Houston. Grandma who is 92 years old, a charming old soul who only fell down once but it was in the grass and she is just fine. I met Tony's mom today and I'm not sure how she felt about me, or me about her...she seems to be in the distance from everyone else...she seemed more concerned about her dog, Peppermint than anyone else...some said she just stopped by out of couriousity about me...who knows. We spent the day entertaining his kids...Helen, 15 yrs, Sunny, 4 yrs, and Anton (T5) almost 2 yrs. They must have hid the eggs 3 times and hunted them afterward. I baked beans East Texas Style and all seemed to love them...one person had 4 helpings and his spouse said it was to punish her later. Isn't it a hoot to meet the new family??? Haha!!! Quiet time tonight is especially inviting!!! Nothing like getting to meet the new fam!!! Haha!!! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday...25 days and counting down to the big day!!!

Calling all cowbell artistes' and musicians.
OK, I've become intrigued with doing a cowbell wedding march: Walken meets Wagner. So, the issues that would confront such an endeavor are:
#1. Are cowbells tunable?
#2. If they are, how many notes do we need to do "The Wedding March?'
#3. How would we get a bunch of Thread Heads to the point of actually being able to play it?
#4. Does anyone have Christopher Walken's Email address?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Let the madness continue!

Hey TH's,
Many, many thanks to Carolina Beadhead and Zydekitten for assisting us in getting our photo up. Apparently, I have CRS - computer retarded syndrome ;)
Also, as we already mentioned, we love the Moooore Cowbelllll idea (thanks again Rev!!!). I looked at the cowbell site and it seems extravagantly expensive to buy 100 small cowbells (for around $10 each). Maybe we can find cheaper ones or anyone who wants to can bring their own. Hopefully a threadhead in time can solve this one also :)
btw approximately how many TH's should we expect to be at JF the second weekend, b/c we want to bring some Lagniappe gifts ourselves? We have not gone back and counted, but it appears that at least 50 and probably closer to 100 folks from here already plan to attend the "Tina and Tony Jazz Fest Wedding!" :)
You guys are the greatest!! We were very happy before we got on this site, but we are ecstatic beyond our wildest dreams now :) We originally thought it would just be us two, the Rev. and perhaps Swag and look what it has become.
Christopher Walken may even come now :0 and btw Rev. who is Chris Rose?
TnT - Madly in Love and apparently VERY contagious!!!!!!!
We love you guys!!!

My wife, Eileen, and I found each other after many years of being single adults. Neither of us had ever been married before. We have similar reactions from people. They just don't believe that we can truly be that happy. I think many people are jaded by their own experiences or think that we are just naive. We wish you much luck! I'm very sorry that I will only be in New Orleans until Thursday morning of the week'tween. I would love to be at your wedding. When you look back twenty years from now I hope you are as happy, or happier, than you are at this moment.

Party starts at midnight of Saturday night / Sunday morning May 5/6, so if you're free, absolutely swing on by! But I have to remind, it is a COSTUME party and costumes are required! (As one of my buddies always says, "A mask is not a costume...")
My wife & I met at Rock n' Bowl during Jazz Fest 8 years ago, but we first really started talking at Johnny White's Hole-in-the-Wall in the Quarter, so we're having the costume vow renewal ceremony in the courtyard there.
All (costumed) welcome!

btw in case you haven't read through this entire thread, we are getting married at about 11:10 at a grove of trees between the LA Folklife area and the Fais do-do stage. We would luv for y'all to be there if you can make it :)

And we are definitely planning on attending your wedding, hangovers permitting. ;-) Otherwise, definitely do come say hi under our flag!

I had my purse stolen on Saturday night...and since then have been trying to locate it...it's gone...no police dept. report or anything...I panicked when I realized it takes 30 days to get a new DL and we've been trying for 2 days to get it replaced for the wedding...the DOT is not at all helpful!!! I started to cry but Tony said he would take of it...we've spent 4 hrs. over the last 4 days trying to expedite the process. I know I am a bridezilla but I can't help it!!! We're working on all the plans, but could still use all the support we can muster...we wrote our vows tonight and Rev. Don called us...I was so excited while Tony talked to him he thought I would jump out of my chair...I'm feeling a little uncertain...not about the wedding just about life in general...I would love to hear from my newbie found buddies....

If you have a passport, that should work in place of the DL for all ID purposes. If not, I'm not sure, but it will work out somehow, I'm sure.

"Therefore, her post was really just a shameless bump :0 as I think most of y'all already gathered" I never thought that for one minute, but you are too funny Tony to even suggest that! Now that sounds pitiful for sure! No shame here though.

The hassles are ridiculous...between Tony and I we have been on the phone for 4 hrs with DOT trying to expedite the mailing of the license. We did get a chance to speak with Rev Don last night on the phone. I am just so happy!!! He seems like such a laid back cool guy!!!

To echo Swag's earlier post - do you have a passport, Tina?? When I lost my license, it was invaluable and you can't get a more official ID in the country ;) :D

30 days to get a new license??? That's nuts!
Sorry yall are dealing with that Tina/Tony. Yall are like the reincarnation of 2forthefest. They used to post on the same handle but you could always tell if it was the good 1/2 or the evil one! You two are too cute!

No...don't have a passport but we've established a fedex acct and are arranging to pay them to overnight it when it's ready...should be Friday they say...I'm not sure now after dealing with them for 2 days now. You must be required to have an master ijit degree to work for the State of Texas!!!

Okay - now, forgive me, I may be a total moron - but don't you have a DMV or license agency that you can walk into? I mean, if it is digital they can compare your happy face to the happy face on their screen - right? That may be far too logical - but hell - this seems overly complicated.
Now - in Joisey - where I am presently imprisoned....(figuratively - puhleeze)....there is this 6 point ID system where you need enough points from each list - not too many points on one of the lists - and then you stand on your head, wait a while, get called to the window to explain something in black and white, then go sit and wait a while, then they call you to a new window and have you pay, go sit a while, then they call you up - snap your picture and give you your license before you ever get a chance to figure out it's time for the pic. Therefore, everyone looks like an escaped mental patient, or really, really, pissed off because they're wondering what stupid freakin' thing they're going to be asked to explain again.
On second thought - maybe Texas has it right - door to door service....hmmmm...
Thinking good thoughts for you.....it will work out okay. In a couple of years when you look back on this - it will be a really funny part of the pre-wedding jitters.

Wow!!!!
When my wallet was stolen 3 weeks ago, all I had to do is walk in to the DMV and tell them that I needed a new one....15 minutes later, I walked out with a brand new one!
As for everything else in your purse...make sure that you cancel every card and make a report to Equifax to have an alert placed on your credit account. They will notify the other credit places. The alert is good for 90 days. You can then order a free report to check and see activity on your account. (this I learned from this bored when I posted in a panic like you!)

Yes, in the State of Texas they have to mail them to you. The DPS here takes your info and verifies that you are the person standing in front of them and they fingerprint you and take your pic. Then they send it to Austin and then they'll mail it to you in 3-6 weeks. If there are no glitches with the ijits!!! If the ijits get a wijit in their sidjit then we're screwed!!! Tony has suggested a backup plan <whispers> (he's so smart...but don't tell him I said so). We're looking toward a passport for me. Nothings gonna keep us down!!! I had to have a car key made too-has anyone else ever paid $110 for a $1.25 key. It's been a royal pain!!! I'm not bringing a purse to JF for sure!!!
But your probably all right, everything will turn out okay and it will be part of the story we tell...over and over and over again until we're butting in and finishing what they other is trying to say...my father never could stand to let my momma tell a story (she talked slow)...he would wait until he just couldn't take it and blurt out the ending...she'd get so mad at him!!! But when Tony and I are old...when he finishes my thoughts I'll just smile and feel warm and fuzzy knowing that he's in my head!!!

We are imprisoned in Galvatraz!!! We call it that because it's an Island and the people here tend to get real laid back and don't ever want to go anywhere. When I met Tony on myspace he wanted me to go for a walk on the beach...I told him I lived waaaaaaay out on the West end and it just wasn't possible. When he found out that was about 15 minutes away he just couldn't believe it...now he's been on the Island for a year and now he sees the mentality changes...it's far to him now too.!!! We are both IBC's (Islanders by choice).

Congrats, Tony & Tina! We would love to attend your wedding.
We got married in New Jersey (but walked down the aisle to "Chapel of Love" by the Dixie Cups") and honeymooned at Jazzfest. So we get to celebrate our anniversary at Fest every year, just like you will!
