View Full Version : 4all the st.louians....cards get their rings

bywterbro

The Cardinals’ ring ceremony was notable for the team’s generosity, with rings presented to Hall of Famers such as Bob Gibson and Lou Brock in addition to a pair of retired players, Larry Walker and Cal Eldred, who called it quits after the 2005 season and served as spring training instructors.

The rings feature the championship trophy on one side, the players’ name accompanied by a scene of Busch Stadium during a fireworks celebration on the opposite side, with the intertwined letters STL in rubies on top along with diamonds studding four bases.

“Gorgeous,” La Russa said. “Ownership deserves a ton of credit.”

thats great, I'm happy for the cardinals, but what does this have to do with jazzfest or even new orleans, or even music? I mean, I could start posting today's news headlines here too, or horoscopes, but who really cares?

You could say that about the AI thread too ---oh, I forgot, it does have something to do with music. :p

We have these threads because they are fun and they are part of building the community of Threadheads. :)

cool - I raise my glass and toast the greatness of the cards! If I'm not interested in the subject of a thread, I dont have to read it, right? I should lighten up.

maybe im bitching because im a yankee fan, (I know, we're universally hated, but i just moved 5 blocks away from yankee stadium, so at least I have an excuse to root for them - I can hear the roar of the crowd from my balcony), i have tickets today, and its r***ed out.

Ouch...
I was at the first two games, and the Cards played like it was last September rather than October. Hit into seven double plays, outfielders lost balls in the lights...hey, boys, quit celebrating and play ball. The Mets are a tough team.

As I was leaving Opening Day on Sunday, someone behind me had a great line:

"Well...there's always LAST year."

But hey -- they started 0-2 in 2004, and that was a pretty good team. At least until the WS.

Here's to baseball season...

Here's hoping we win a few games. I'm a Memphis Redbird fan, so of course we pull for the Cards. Memphis was a Cardinal town long before we started sending players up to the bigs there. I'm sure there'll be lots of changes during the year, and Jocketty will pull some magic out of the hat and give LaRussa the tools he needs.

i could not get a reasonably priced ticket for the game because they were giving (cheesy) replica rings as promo's. so i watched the ring ceremony on TV, cried when spiezio's dad gave him his ring.
then caught a great show at the new-ish Lucas School venue. Ryan Bingham opened up for the Duhks. i had been waiting a long time to see the Duhks live - they were incredible. and this Ryan kid has a great band. they're definitely on their way up.

Because of KMOX and it's signal strength in the past, the Cardinals had fans all over the South. It was the only baseball station most people could pick up.

and the Mets will find their rightful place back behind the Braves once again when the dust settles this year! ;)

you're right - 4 rings while spending, 22 without. i believe they are seeing the errors of their ways. red sox & cubs were the big spenders this off season.

so your saying 162-0 is out of the question???

McGregor
04-04-2007, 03:37 PM
Well they really didn't start the big spending until after '99 so I'd say zero rings since the spending began (that makes me feel better at least).

Most of the rings in the '90's came from homegrown talent (bernie williams, jeter, mariano, etc). When they decided to get every free agent available, things fell apart..in the postseason at least.

I don't think year will be any different, no offense. The pitching and poor D may be their downfall again. You can overcome those things playing the D-Rays 19 times but not quality teams.

just the red sox & toronto 19, then detroit, white sox, angels i think 6 or 7.

what most people don't realize about yankee's fans, most of us hate what free agency has done to the team. bobby murcer got the biggest cheer on opening day. he was a bright spot during the horrid 60's & 70's (or as we refer to them the "cbs, ewww, years") ;)

Good point on the other good teams.

It's just hard for a fan of another MLB team to like the Yankees. It's like we aren't playing by the same rules and seems a bit unfair but what can you do?

It does seem the Yankees have learned from their bad ways the past few years and have put more into their farm system (Phillip Hughes) so that will pay off soon for them I would imagine.

I'm glad baseball is back!!! :)

Barb - I was at that show last night as well. I thought the Duhks were really good. Like you first time seeing them, and have been waiting a while for them to make their way thru the midwest. Hopefully they'll make their way back soon. That singer sounded amazing, hard to believe she has only been with the band a couple weeks, she really fit in well and sounded just like the chick that sings on the cds. I thought Ryan Bingham sounded great too, really enjoyed his set. Only problem I see with him rising up is that you dont hang out and heckle the Grammy nominated headliner your touring with. That bass player for Ryan got wasted, and then Ryan proceeded to stand at the front of the stage (no one else standing) and make-out with some chick for half the set. Wouldn't be surprised if the Duhks told them to find their own gig for the rest of the tour.

What's wrong, you have something against Horace Clark???:D I think that Murcer got the cheer 'cause of his link to the bad teams and his battle with cancer....

Last two years have been tough...first watching the White Sox get rings and then the Cards.

just like arrogant yankee fans to come on to a national league discussion and attempt to hijack it by compalining about not getting enough world series ;-) i am a reds fan and would be happy if we even made the playoffs- so be happy to be competitive.
