Hello all -
This is the first time we will be staying in the French Quarter for Jazz Fest - like so many others, our friends house in Lakeview was wiped out. Does anyone know what the cab situation is like when leaving the Fair Grounds? We were looking into the shuttle ($16 per person round trip) but it leaves the Fest at 7:30. That doesn't give you much time to get by Liuzza's for an after Festival beer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Canal Street Car line is running and that deadheads at Old City Park (east side of the Museum) just a couple blocks west of the Fairgrounds:
http://www.norta.com/routes/47.pdf shows operation all evening long and I bet during the fest they may add a few extra cars to the line to handle crowds going to and from the fest-better than the city bus which also can be grabbed for a lot less than a taxi. If you go buy 24 hour passes ($5) or 3 day passes ($12 each) or just pay $1.25 a trip but the passes will allow you access on and off the cars and busses all day and night and the system is a well designed system compared to some cities.

To emphasize one point besides whats on my page that Dag linked...
The shuttle leaves from inside the Fest gates. If you go out to Liuzzas, you may not be able to re-enter to get to the bus departure point. Cab lines can get long some days, but if you hang at L's till 7:30 or later, they should be diminished by then.

So where is Luizza's? I want to do the meet-ups there. :)

"A" marks the spot. There is an entrance to the festival on Fortin St. that is quite convenient.

Thanks so much. This is exactly the information I was looking for - I didn't even know they had cab stands at the Fair Grounds! See you at Liuzza's!

If you take the JF Express and leave the Fairgrounds after the Fest, you won't be able to get back in to catch the return bus. The cab stands, after the Fest, are a couple of short blocks from Liuzza's. If you hang around Luzza's long enough, the cabs start roaming around looking for people. Or, do what a lot of folks do, just hop the city bus, which is next to the cab stand and ride back to the Quarter in style. ;)
This kinda gives you the general direction to Liuzza's from the Fairground.
