there really is no shakedown atreet at jazzfest. items for sale are not legally allowed in the fairgrounds. there are streets outside fest entrances where locals sell water and cokes. you might be able to do it there. or you may be able to blend in outside liuzzas, which is just a few blocks from the sauvage entrance before and after fest and do some sales there. good luck.

Vic is right: There's no single area where 'outside' vending occurs. What spots do exist, are typically occupied by locals vending cold water, food, Festival Feedbags, etc...

On one or more street corners, there'll be brass bands raging. Crowds will gather around those spots, but probably no stationary vending going on (unless maybe it's the band hawking their merch).

If you're 'dead set' on vending at Fest, the best recommendation I can give is: Be mobile. Only bring what you can comfortably carry - or, approach a local and cut a deal to set up on their property. And good luck wit dat!

Actually the area around Luizza's is cool. They even have spaces for rent around there on the corners. Not sure how you acquire them but there are people with tables set up.. After fest it is a raging party with music, nitrous tanks, and alcohol flowing freely.

The main street,Fortin, right next to the fairgorunds on that side with the "dollah watahs" and "How Ya Gonna Clap" cozies and the rest of the swag is where a lot of glass blowers are selling oneees and small pipes (People fly and dont bring that stuff).

If you have just a small thing, hand held walkable then the area around there is ideal. Probably not gonna cut it with a blanket on the ground.

A friend got busted selling shirts on Esplanade last year in the Carrolton Streetcar direction, so probably not a good spot.

I've seen lots of people selling glass and other items outside of Liuzza's post-Fest.

And I'll never forget that New Mastersounds show on the porch across from Liuzza's. That was one wild scene in the street, including a baby goat!

Spent most of my life on Shakedown so that is the first thing I look for even if I am not vending something.

It's even worse than that; it looks like a bottle of Bud Light Lime, (shudder) which in itself should be enough to allow the Louisiana ASPCA to take the little nipper roo away from it's sadistic owner.

Little known fact---Being Australian, most baby kangaroos are actually born with around a .12 BAC, and are immediately taken by their mothers to the nearest pub for a wee birthday snort.

So I wonder if the NOPD will be out busting people outside of Liuzza's after JF?

Since I can remember, people in the neighborhood around the Fairgrounds have been selling bottles of water, soda, beer, and often BBQ (or other similar foods) to the crowds streaming into and out of Jazzfest, and I can't ever remember seeing them get hassled by the cops, who generally seem to turn a blind eye to all such activities.

I have always tried to grab a couple of beers from a local (trying to make a few bucks during Fest) rather than actually from Liuzzas, as I figure that the local guy, sitting on his front porch with a cooler, probably could stand to make a few bux, and always seems to appreciate the business.

I have met some lovely locals this way, and look forward to passing a few minutes chatting about their home, or telling them about Utah, which they seem VERY interested in hearing about.....;)

Two years ago fest, a few friends stopped to see a highschool jazz band and got a couple cocktails made from a cooler out of some guys truck and we meet the fried chicken taxi man. He was a for sale car and included in the ride were all the fried chicken and bud light you could have.

Very cool guy, but I lost his number. I hope they don't shut down that type of vending.

I've got Holly's Tamales on my Jazz Fest bucket list. I hope they don't run her off too.
