Last year the Marriott on Canal had a free concert every night of Jazz Fest. They would block off part of Canal and they had a raised stage over the main entrance of the hotel. I don't recall who all played but I do remember seeing Marc Broussard and Robert Randolph play on seperate nights. Does anyone know if they will be doing this again?

Yes, those were fun shows, but I haven't heard a word about it happening this year, so I'm assuming that was a one-off thing.

We stayed at the Sheraton last year where we enjoyed the free evening shows. We came back, in the pouring r%##, from hearing the Poor Claires to catch the last of Charmaine Neville's set.

The Sheraton would be nuts not to do that gig again this year. I'm pretty sure that between PaulC, Pokerchick and the rest of us loogans, they made a fortune last year!

I also enjoyed seeing Marc Broussard at the Marriott. I don't recall Robert Randolph playing, but I did see Kermit (I think!) and I definitely saw Jeremy Davenport and Ingrid Lucia.

I know one night of the Marriot shows had Ingrid Lucia, Jeremy Davenport, Kermit Ruffins, and a troupe of Swing Dancers who swarmed the place and made for a REAL cool atmosphere

now that I think about it...it was Kermit and Robert Randolph did not play. Sorry about that...after a day on the grounds and into the night, its a wonder I can remember anything at all. :)

Both the marriot and sheraden had shows last year. Marriot was promting ther new room design with randy "dog" jackson doing big sceen cameo's . Have not seen any thing on either this year but the Ritz will have shows as they do weekly now.

Yeah, Marriotts shows were to promote their new rooms, so I'd guess that was a 1-time thing. Sheraton was celebrating being the official hotel of the Fest, which they are again, so hopefully that will continue. The Sheraton shows were announced last year on April 18, so it may well still be coming.
