Hello,
It will be my first time at Jazz Fest. What time do the gates open on Friday? How can you tell what time which the bands will be on? I've looked at the schedule, but there are no times there.
Thanks. Can't wait.

Gates open at about 11am. The "cubes", with the stages and times for each act, will be released shortly.
Check out swagland.com for all of your Jazzfest info.
And welcome aboard. You'll have a great time.

Welcome and you're gonna love it! The music starts at 11:15 and stops at 7. Then the night shows start all over the city. check out www.jazzfestgrids.com if you're interested in night shows. the grids will fill up over the next couple months. the cubes usually come out the end of March.

I would suggest being at Liuzza's an hour or so before the gates open.

in the olden days,94-98, the big chef aka mojo and me used to drive up to the car parking line on gentilly at about 8am, which would surprisingly only be about 5-10 cars deep by then...
after driving around prowling nola city ALL OVER ALL NIGHT, LATTTTTTTTE, for funky fun, on the way home from our debauchery we'd restock the cooler at K&B, buy some chips ahoy cookies for breaky, hit the rooms shower up, redress and then hit the parking line around 8am.we were seriously pursuing fun.
....we'd catch a few hours sleep in the car,1030am?, til the nice people with tickets and parking stubs in rolls and cash in wads and aprons would knock on the windows n wake us up. they was always accompanied by at least one or two nola pd in uniform with large and deadly pistols. everyone was very slow n cordial til our eyes n windows opened and we could count legibly...this would never happen in nyc. every aspect of it. up here someone would be yellng at someone to hurry up...especially in the morning.
so after the nice well armed people knocked on your window and after you bought your ticket and parking stub($10+$10?) you'd have time to stretch out a bit, splash some cold cooler water on your face, hit the chalice to praise the day and turn on OZ to catch the haps, maybe share a cookie with some folks on line and get ready for the day of frolic n music ahead.
that was our parking line ritual.....for years................
im old now. i come home earlish,or earlier than i used to from my frolic. no more sunglass sets at maple leaf. maybe i even get proper sleep (warren zevon spins in grave and pisses on me)...
Now i usually go to fest late-ish(noon) and park at my friends house round trafalgar street area.
mojo lives in nola now and doesnt go to the fesst everyday...someday he just sells his art there.....

Well, our paths must have crossed in 94-98. We would always line up on Gentilly by 9AM. Our Krewe started from meeting on the streets back in the 80's. Then they moved us to Trafalgar Street for a few years.
