What is the situation for beer/drinks? Is it a cash festival or must you purchase food/beverage tickets? Also, can anyone give a ball park estimate for the cost of a cold beer? Just curious. I'm from Milwaukee, so I need all the particulars! Ha. Thanks.

for $25 (that includes $5 tip) you can get 5 Miller Lights and a Miller Light Case filled with ice to take your beer back to your spot and keep it cold.
You want to load up when you go to avoid going back..altho I am always going back. :p

I bring down a cheap plastic freezer bag (with handle) and whoever turn it is to go for the beer run, takes the bag, fills with ice and beer. stays nice and cold. Swag brings a Camelback with water and i just love my 5 hours energy drinks!
I'll add this for the newbies: except at the two main stages when it gets crowded, the beverage lines at Jazzfest tend to be very short, a minute or less. And liquids are heavy. Most of the day, if you're wandering stage to stage, you don't wantto be lugging extra brews around. It's easier just to pop over to the nearest stand when you get thirsty, get a cold one, and you'll be back before the next song starts.
Now, when you're with a group, in the middle of a big crowd, in the middle of a set, it's good to have purchased a box or cooler full of beer. Of course, that won't help you when it comes time to return the beer, and (rule of thumb) when the beer lines get long, so do the lines for the port-o-lets.

If your lodging has an ice machine, bring ziploc bags. We load up a couple of bags and the stay cold all day! One stays clean for drinks & one is for dunking bandanas or towels if the sun gets a little too intense.

as one of only 5 people attending fest this year that does not drink alcohol :p , I'm excited we'll have coke products instead of pepsi as well. Coke rules! Here's hoping they offer Coke Zero, the greatest beverage in the history of life and the world.

In answer to the original question - cash as you go. Prices still TBD at this time.

I am thrilled to have a Diet Coke option. I love the Rosemint Tea, but a steady diet of it can take away the enjoyment.

I wish there was a better beer option. I would rather Bud Light over Miller. I don't drink Foster's either.
Abita would be a great option.

It's been discussed here before. MillerCoors is a major sponsor, so only their products are sold. Many of us would love Abita, but they likely don't have the marketing budget to supplant Miller. In the meantime, I continue to hope they'll add Killian's as a darker alternative - it's a MillerCoors product, it's available in cans, and it actually tastes different than the current selections.
There's also Pilsner Urquell drafts available near the tents & Grandstand.

The trucks had a couple of other taps as well but don't remember what they were. As we know, it's PU for us.
SABMiller owns close to 200 brands .... thy actualy have a decent non-millercoors selection.

For at least the past few years they have also been selling Blue Moon at the same stands where they sell Pilsner Urquell.

5 - if predominantly lurking doesn't disqualify one.

i usually don't drink adult beverages during the day at the fairgrounds either. i also don't drink caffeine, so it's mostly H2O for me.
