Just heard Bobby "Blue" Bland on jazz station -- "I Wouldn't Treat a Dog (the Way You Treat Me)" -- has Bobby Bland ever been here for Jazz Fest? Great artist!

jazz station? he's a blues, soul and R&B guy. old school. plays lots of blues festivals, including Big Muddy (St. Louis, MO) & King Biscuit (Helena, AR - so glad they go the name back) - two of the best blues fests (midwest bias - and free or at least real cheap).

i could not find Bobby using this webiste - but it may be user error.

however, according to this article he was a headliner at last years Cresent City Blues festival in NOLA

He appeared at Jazzfest awhile back and his voice was really shot, almost like a croak.

I'm probably thinking of a JF appearance a little farther back, but I heard him and he was superb! I do remember it was at Congo and it was when the stage ran with its back to the track.

He played a night show in 2004, a dual-bill at the Saenger with Al Green.

This was definitely a day show at Congo, probably the nineties.

I was there that night.
I seem to recall that there were serious issues with his sound that night (vox kept cutting out), which mysterious cleared up completely when Al Green performed.
Good fun show, though.

Not a lot of folks seem to know this, but Bobby Bland and James Cotton are half-brothers.

Van Morrison has been covering Bobby Bland's "Ain't Nothing You Can Do" for decades, (that song is showcased on Van's landmark 1974 live album "Too Late To Stop Now") and has invited him onstage as a guest artist during several live shows over the years.

I had no idea that Bobby Bland and James Cotton were brothers......:)

A couple of years ago, a close friend of mine a well known and respected music journo interviewed Cotton at a festival we were both attending.
When the interview was over he asked me whether I had heard about Cotton and Bland having the same Father. Not only had I not heard of it, but it seems that nobody else before or since had heard of this.
He apparently spoke about it at some length and in detail, so there was no room for misinterpretation.

Together for the First Time Live was the one I had, on cassette. Used to listen to "I Like to Live the Love I Sing About" over and over and over. What a great track. Great album, too. Gotta dig that out...
