After being in a conference all day - and internet challenged, then straight to drinks and Blues hockey with a friend, then back to her house for a cocktail, i finally got my 1st peek at the cubes (she had already printed).
concentrating on 1st weekend - only weekend the friend & her husband will make this year - i was overwhelmed by the urge to make horizontal turn to vertical for Friday April 27th. if you took all the closing bands, what a great day it would make. but since i seem to have lost my power to alter the universe, i doubt it will happen. and then i realized i was agonizing over something that was beautiful - without changes.
so based on one of those old cross-stitch sayings...i will accept the things i cannot change. or to quote Fred 'let it go, let it go, let it go'.
i have given up FOMS.
i will not let it control me. i will not let it make me less happy about what i do get to enjoy. i will not let it influence me in any negative way!
i will enjoy the music, friendship, fellowship, food, art, and weather - without fear. i will enjoy this festival and the great town that hosts it. i will enjoy the best 11 days of the year, and be thankful that my health and bank account affords me such a luxury.
and may you all enjoy it in your own way.

I had not even looked at the cubes, but I had printed them out. Hebjamn sat down (He usually doesn't care and never even looks at the cubes, letting me choose) and begin to study the cues.
He was calm throughout most of the first weekend, but by 2nd weekend and finally Sunday, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, LOL!!!!

My name is Glinda, and I have suffered FOMS for far too long. I am now ready to accept the unfortunate reality that I WILL miss something wonderful, so I hereby release all FOMS, and gladly embrace MSW WEL. Missing something wonderful while enjoying life. I pledge to enjoy the hell out of wherever I am, so that I will have no regrets about where I am not.

Honest to Gawd, I only have 2 acts highlighted on each day except first Saturday and I only have 3 highlighted for that day. The rest I'm going where the vibe takes me.

replace the entire lsit with valium. you'll be able to trade for whatever you need. ;)
and in a bar is probably the wrong place to be making lists.
if you were queen, you would have ladies & lords to help haul all your stuff around.

How is this for FOMS....I got an email today saying they want to interview me for the teaching position that I sought counsel from the esteemed bored on. teachNOLA is having interview sessions where you go through a five hour process of q and a, a sample presentation then one on one interview. They do them on Saturdays...you see where this is going?
The only one I can possibly do both time wise and financially is..wait for it...april 28th-yes that april 28th, our beloved first saturday.:confused:
I have an email out to them about additional dates after JF so we shall see-so if you see me in a suit and flipflops on 1st saturday you will know why LOL
Are they aware it is JF that weekend...heathens

One hour at a time.
For years, I used to print out the daily schedule and used 3 highlighters. Yellow for must see, green for 2nd choice, blue for 3rd. I never once followed that schedule the minute I stepped on to the Fairgrounds.
Allow a 20 year veteran to offer a bit of advice. If you're torn between someone you've seen and someone you haven't, go with the unknown. If you absolutely have to see Calexico, Rebirth, and Steve Riley; allow 20 minutes for each. If you can't decide between two acts, go see somebody else. If you can't bring yourself to do that flip a coin. I usually made it 2 out of 3 just to be sure. If you're into R&B or traditional jazz, age becomes a factor. Some of these guys might not be with us a year or two from now so keep that in mind.
Accept the fact that you're gonna miss some artist you wanted to see but it's worth it. Don't kill yourself over this.

But the corrolary to that:
Never leave something really great.
If your 20 minutes at Calexico is done, and they're tearing up up big time, stay for the rest. Doesn't matter who you'll be missing next.

Yeah, that can happen. But my experience, 9 times out of 10, if what your leaving is really great, where you end up is a disappointment.

Well, we started our tango lessons just this week and we have one more next week. So I'm halfway ready! lol, I'm sure there's a ton more variations that go with it but I think I got the basics down. I only know the girl's part, though! I don't know the guys part . . . we'll have to wing it. :D

I also find that I'm more inclined to miss someone's JF set if I know I will be seeing them some night in the clubs. But, althought I understand Dank (sometimes you find something better), I tend to go with Swag (If it is great -- wait).

Mightyrad - oh.....first, CONGRATS on the interview.
Second, about the interview schedule - hello - come the friday BEFORE - as in April 20th.... (see, now you're skippin class for an out of town interview...hello? Who is gonna complain about that). Then, stay through the fest, save every receipt and the invitation letter and it could be a tax write off (as long as it's not your first job).
we can figure this out for you.....besides, if they are inviting you for an interview - don't they have a small budget for hotel and stuff? It might be just what you need - besides- you're already paying the bulk of the airfare - you could just ask them to reimburse you for the fare difference or change fee......

Thanks ONJ...Yeah, that angle was taken away due to work commitments here...my FT job is dreading me being away ('specially in NOLA:D ) for the 12 days I am out of the office already...they do pay for a day or two if I was able to score the additional time off...we shall see

been off line all day - toll cable to our area was cut - couldn't talk on the phone either - i loved my dsl until i realized it's hell without a phone or computer - now we have bad weather heading our way
