Folks, one of the most special experiences I had last year was speaking to some of the authors and filmmakers at Tower Records. The table is located right beside the cash register, and you can meet some of the most amazing people there.
Last year, I spent a half an hour speaking with (and sitting beside) Harry Shearer - wow. He was promoting some DVD release of his, and almost nobody stopped by...except for the few folks asking "can you tell me where the rap section is?" I also met Tom Piazza, Leslie Smith (Micheal P's daughter) and spent time with Michael Murphy, producer of all the Jazzfest footage on MSN and the "Make It Funky" documentary. These folks all had great stories to tell, and it was a nice respite from all that damn loud music...just kidding!
Anyway, try to stop by if you get the chance!

Guess there won't be a RossVegas sighting there this year.....I did have a nice chat with Chris Rose at IAC though.

You'll just have to buy all your CD's at LMF (or the Borders Tent I suppose).

Oh, I usually buy everything at LMF anyway...but I'm really pissed that two of the major chains would turn their backs on the city that is the cradle of American Music. Shame on them!

Yeah, Tower's even closed here (in Sacramento) and this is where it started in a drug store back in the 60's . . . it's all gone (sob).

Well, Tower went belly-up everywhere (bankruptcy), I'm not sure why Virgin pulled out.

Tower Records didn't abandon New Orleans so much as CD buyers abandoned them -- the chain is basically gone.

Tower didn't have a choice - they had been trying to avoid bankruptcy for many years in many different ways before it just overwhelmed them last year. They were sold to a liquidation company who did just that - liquidated them.
Tower is dead.
