Has anyone ever been to Bullet's? I know Kermit plays there from time to time; I'd like a description of the place.

my dad went there last week to catch kermit ruffins. had a blast but said it was a bit of a dive and in a rough neighborhood that'd been hit hard. loved it though. someone told him kermit actually owns the place, but he wasn't sure if that was actually the case. sorry i can't provide a more thorough report.

I'll be adding 3 Kermit dates at Bullets to the grids sometime shortly. Actually there is a SHITLOAD about to be added (Thanks Chris) ... Stay Tuned
Vaughn's is certainly THE place to see Kermit, but with his increasing popularity the past few years, its becoming a tough proposition to even find a place to stand.
Also, a note regarding Rays Boom Boom Room. The Boom Boom Room (of San Fransisco fame) people have emailed me. They are the ones that struck a deal with the Blue Nile owners to get it opened for jazzfest, and have booked a FANTASTIC run of shows there!. I'll also be adding a SOLID schedule for that venue to thegrids very soon. Anyway they are very upset about the name Ray being applied to their production company, and have asked me to refer to the club in the grids as 'Boom Boom Room at Blue Nile'. They say Ray stole the name from them. Apparently the whole thing is a tad confusing to me ... sounds like there are lawyers involved already, as they also told me that the name Boom Boom Room is a registered trademark that they have built up over a ten year period, that is respected by Jambase, Relix, Times Picayune, and others. Basically, he said Ray just came along and stole his name. So call it Boom Boom Room at Blue Nile if you can. So I ask you this, which I couldnt figure out from my conversation with the guy. Is there a club thats called Rays Boom Boom Room, that is in a different building from the Blue Nile? While coincidentally, Boom Boom Room from San Fran has booked shows at the Blue Nile (on the same street), So they are asking that we call Rays Boom Boom Room, "Rays Club", and the Blue Nile, "Boom Boom Room at Blue Nile".
Jeff Potter, the listings he gave me have Dragon Smoke 2007 @ Boom Boom Room At Blue Nile on the same night as Roux Ga Roux, which seems to support the above explaination ... anyone??? Bueller?

French is cookin' at Ray's and beware of snakes this Monday
Bob French and Friends at Ray's Boom Boom Room
The Jazz Vipers at The Spotted Cat
Every new club that opens in this post-apocalyptic New Orleans is cause for celebration. Ray's Boom Boom Room, a new home for jazz, brass, funk and soul has opened at 508 Frenchman Street in the uber-hot Marigny. Tonight, Monday, Bob French and Friends, featuring Ellen Smith move their gig from Donna’s to Ray’s in a coup that nearly rivals a dictatorial shift in some small country. On most nights, Bob’s show features musicians from around the city and occasionally, the world, as most traditional jazz musicians know that when in town, this is the gig to see and sit in on. Ray’s is, dare I say, an upscale venue equipped with a second floor terrace and oyster bar. There’s plenty of room to shake that leg as well. It is worthwhile to note that the Crescent City’s prodigal son Kermit Ruffins is a partial owner of this bar, which will only reinforce this neighborhood’s status as a local musicians treasure trove. The party starts tonight at 9 p.m. and should run well past midnight. Admission includes some food and a free CD while supplies last. Ray’s Boom Boom Room is located at 508 Frenchman Street in the Marigny. Doors open at 8 p.m., with music starting at 9 p.m.; there is a $10 cover charge.

I think the Dragon Smoke 07 show is at One Eyed Jacks.
Luckily, the Dragon's Den probably can't afford a lawyer, or there'd be another name lawsuit in the works.

and people wonder why i call and verify things with clubs before we go there.
the grids can be wrong, due to bad info being provided - or updates/changes not being received.
occassionally there is a last minute cancellation or band change.
but call early - its hard to get thru close to show time.

Just checked , Dragon Smoke 07 is off the One Eyed Jacks sced. Now if they could just change the date so it wouldn't be the same day as Roux Ga Roux, one FOMS incident could be averted.

Rays v BBR presents probably deserves its own thread to explain they are separate venues - it might be loss in this thread dirft.

the only thing worse than paying handling fees for a show, is handling fees for a show that doesnt happen.
but i dont think HBO would put it out there unless it was expected to happen. not crazy about that tiny venue - but i think they are quite reputible.

DB, you basically got the story right.
The Boom Boom Room club in SF has been around for 10 years, and they have been doing shows down here in NOLA during JazzFest at various venues for 7 years or so, as "Boom Boom Room Presents". BBRP also does shows in New York, Chicago, and other places.
BBRP consistently puts on GREAT shows, with unique lineups (as you can see from the schedule - http://www.boomboomblues.com/bbrp.html ) - a lot of combos you might not see anywhere else. BBRP shows during JazzFest are usually made up of legendary musicians, established players from the NOLA and SF scenes, and members of bands like Galactic, Soulive, Greyboy Allstars, etc.
Ray's club took the name "Boom Boom Room", who knows if Ray and his partners knew about the trademark or not. Regardless, I would probably say your guess is regarding lawyers is probably not far off target. I have seen the club billed sometimes as "Ray's Room" in media listings, so that may be the way to list it on da GRIDS. There is no website for Ray's Room.
BBRP has been putting on shows at the Blue Nile for a few years now, this year doing their entire run there, and it just so happens that Ray's Room (opened last summer) is literally 100 feet down the street. So it may be confusing for someone hearing about "Boom Boom Room" shows on Frenchman St.

Did I tell y'all my Art Neville story yet...if I did, sorry for the repeat... I made the awards one year for the Arts Council of New Orleans. It was the year that Art recieved one. I got to speak with Art and his wife and told them how much I enjoyed Art's music. They told me how much they loved the award and were going to move the the Grammy off the grand piano and put my award in it's place...what a smart man (and wife)!:D

Dragon Smoke was a collective project created by BBRP (Boom Boom Room Presents of SF), originally held at the Dragon's Den, that's where the name came from. You can read the history of it at the ticket-buying site:
http://www.boomboomtickets.com/evinfo.php?eventid=15494&sid=
I thought it was strange that it was previously listed as being at One Eyed Jack's on DA GRIDS, as it was always planned to be at whatever venue BBRP was going to rent out for JF2007.
Anyway, Dragon Smoke is definitely at Blue Nile as part of the BBRP schedule.
