Hey y'all, yet another thread I'd love your help on.
My GF asked what I wanted for my birthday, and I said I wanted to go to New Orleans to see Honey Island Swamp Band at dba, and maybe eat at Cochon as well. :) Since we'll be driving over from Mobile Friday after work (two hour drive) it would be nice to stay somewhere near dba so we can just crash out after the show (Cochon will probably be the next day). Anyone have any suggestions for hotels? I was thinking about the Lamothe house, since its near Frenchmen but not right on Frenchmen (I'd like to avoid noise), and some folks on the board have already booked it for JF 2011, and also its <$100 a night.
We'd like to stay someplace clean, comfortable, and inexpensive (doesn't everybody). I'd love to get any hotel recommendations y'all have. Since its an off weekend, I'm hoping to get a deal.
Thanks!
Not much in the way of hotels close to Frenchmen, but lots of B & B's...
Check out the Frenchmen Hotel though, noise has never been a big issue for me there- it's at the river end of the street.

I've stayed at the Lamothe house for Satchmo fest one year and really liked it. It's unique, clean. Nothing particulary fancy, but old with a lot of feeling. Not exactly sure how to describe but I would definitely stay there again.
If you want something a little nicer than Lamothe or Frenchmen, I've heard good things about Le Richelieu (http://www.lerichelieuhotel.com). It's in the FQ, but only a block or two off Esplanade, so still an easy stumble home from dba.
Top pick in the area is probably the Monnaie (http://www.hoteldelamonnaie.com), but that'll likely be pricier.

That's where we usually stay. Should be $140 per night then for a one-bedroom suite. It is very quiet, clean and nice. But for a one-night stay I think a suite is probably more than you need.
If not, nicest in the area, and considerably more expensive, would probably be 519 Frenchmen:

Or Suite Jazz:

I'd go Frenchmen Hotel if I were you, especially since you'll be driving. Book through bookit.com; you'll get a cheap rate and free parking.

the reason I tens towards Lamothe rather then Frenchmen is tripadvisor had lots of reports of noise at the Frenchmen Hotel. I'm thinking maybe it's too close to the clubs. is this not the case?

Awesome! Nothing like a late night dip in the pool after a day of partying! :) I'm going to have to keep that one in mind next time I head down there!

Le Richelieu is our first choice whenever we're in New Orleans. We've stayed at a couple B & Bs in the Marigny and further up Esplanade, but we love Le Richelieu for clean, close, quiet rooms.

looks like it's a tossup between Lamothe or Le Richelieu. lamothe is cheaper on bookit, but le Richelieu looks awesome. I'll think about it and let y'all know which way I go.

No. They banned the Threadhead Jello Shot Pool Parties.

You might want to check out New Orleans Guest House. We stay there when we are in town. Right off Rampart on Ursilines. Their rate is usually $89, and parking is free. Never had a noise problem, and it is a short walk to Frenchmen Street. No pool, but the owners are very nice.
Have a happy birthday, Postjack. I'm going to NOLA for my birthday in November.

August 27 is the date of the Chargers-Saints pre-season game in the Dome. 7PM kickoff. You should keep that in mind in planning your activities that afternoon and evening. It is the third pre-season game, the one in which the starters typically play a significant amount of and if you are a fan you could consider getting some tickets. If you are not interested in the game or tailgating, I would suggest you avoid the area near the Dome.

No worries. I'm sure it will be valuable to someone else, too. Enjoy Atlanta!

As mentioned the Le Richelieu is on that end of the quarter. I haven't stayed there in a while but my wife and I used to really enjoy it there. I did book it for a business tip the second week of September and got a $94 rate booking direct with the hotel. They also have free onsite parking which saves a few bucks as well.
