View Full Version : What do you want for sub forums

festydave
10-20-2006, 04:49 PM
So if we were to add some sub forums what would you like them to be. We are not going to bring back the "ask the concierge" forum but we could have one where people could post questions.

You can make suggestions here.

That's great Dave! Maybe at least a 2 part division to separate quesitons about/fest info and one for non-fest/off topic threads (that way no one would have to bother with those threads if they didn't want to). Hmm, maybe Jazz Fest, NOLA, Music and Other (seems to me that's sort of how the threads broke down on the other board).

KissmeKate

How about an "Ask the Threadheads" forum -- for advice about fest. I can't think of a cleverer title right now.

I think those are perfect CBH and Ohio! Does it cost more to have multiple sub-forums though? The Cowboy Mouth board administrators recently consolidated 3 into 1 claiming that was the reason . . .

How 'bout if we call the general discussion "gumbo yaya" (everyone talking at once), or "d'is, d'at, & d'udder"?

Of course, it looks like we need a category for "sports" . And, though i am loathe to suggest it, one for "politics". Please don't throw stuff at me!

All (well, mostly) good ideas. Definitely try to separate the general chit chat from the "on topic" stuff, to avoid bewildering the newbies who are just wanting Fest info.

For the on-topic list, I'd suggest a separate forum for Travel.

Festydave, how about providing links to the New Orleans Musician's Clinic, Swag's excellent site, and Chris Joseph's jazzfest grids?

Also, will grisgris be able to post the birthdays on the calendar, or will this area be reserved for ADMIN use only?

I think some information should be engraved in stone, so to speak, so certain topics should be "sticky", IMO.

Great improvement over the previous forum. Thank you very much, Festydave!

Carolina Beadhead
10-21-2006, 12:23 PM
I was thinking I would ask Festy to make the annual Info for Newbies post a sticky which would have those links plus definitions, etc.

Looks good but I can't imagine them having that many subforums and subsubforums. The boreds i visit have 5-7 subs and i'm guessing that's all we'll get here. So we could just use the major divisions. the other divisions will occur naturally. I also like fables' idea of using louisiana kinds of phrases for each category: gumboyaya, dis dat and dudder, where yat. I bet this group and/or festydave and his krewe can come up with some catchy stuff.

nashvegasfess
10-22-2006, 12:05 PM
to have subforums named in that way. If you are afraid people might not understand just present them differently....i.e lagniappe/something extra. I think this would bring some NOLA soul to something like ......logistics subforum.

Blitzzzzz
10-22-2006, 12:50 PM
I read a board based on the same system that has subforums for something like 75 separate entities as well as a freeform chat forum. Each forum has multiple threads so I don't think that's an issue.
Real question would be keeping track of things and finding time to do anything else besides read and post (gotta get that God-like member rating.)
Did anyone notice that we are already well onto the second page of threads.

A couple of other suggestions based on when things get busy as we get closer to fest daze:

Housing - always folks who want to offer places to stay, looking for places to stay, etc.

GRIDS, GRIDS, GRIDS - can't have one for the cubes without one for the Grids!

Tickets - there's always folks wanting to buy/sell/trade tickets

Just some ideas . .

I'm kind of partial to having a limit on forums. If there are 12 different forums, who know where the new posts are. Unless, there is a choice to show all current threads like on some boards. Then I can go forumless and just see what's happening. Besides, the Topic line already works as a filter. That way I can skip threads about Tammy Faye Nicole Smith while reading others about Prince at Jazz Fest. Seems pretty simple to me.

IMO, the more everything is in one place the better it is. If you dont like a topic dont read it. its not your personal board anyway. People are free to post what they will. I wouldnt be surprised if there was a Tammy Faye post on half the chat boards in cyberworld right now, and next week, it will be Michael Vick, and the week after Lindsay Lohan, and the week after that Lindsay Lohan, and the week after that will be Lindsay Lohan The JF moderators can decide what should stay and what shouldnt if it comes to that.
