His new band was funk-tabulous on Sunday night at Le Bon Temps! Blew the roof off the place and we were so proud. Real good, hard funk. Some covers with lots of originals on the way (his bass player had a death in the family and they couldn't do all their originals since he couldn't be there). The name will be announced shortly but they're going by Shamarr Allen and the Cosmic Sweat Society. They have a gig on Sunday nights at the Bon Temps on Magazine and it's a sweet club if you haven't been there. We'll be seeing a lot from our boy in the future now that he's gone on his own. Blew that trumpet like a crazy man :D :D :D
We'll keep ya posted but he will be playing fest...I have no doubt :)

Thought the rest of you might like to see the group photo that Jada (or, actually, one of the band members) took at Bon Temps, aka "Shamarr's Adopted Family"
(And what appears to be the Spirit of Jazz Fest in the air. :D )

Let me fill in the blanks for corona and cbh. They did play some of their original stuff and it was ,funkky, funkky. And somebody else hep me, did the bass player not show up and play a few songs. THis is my new favorite band. If they come to a club near you, don't stop and think. Just go. You can sleep later.

A bass player showed up but I never found out if it was THE bass player...

nope, wasn't THE bass player, he had a family emergency so couldn't do the gig. This kid showed up with his bass and asked to jam out a couple of tunes. They didn't even know him. Pretty cool huh? :) Kirk Joseph played with them to help them out with the bass that night. The sax player was Flea (sp?) from Rebirth. The keys, guitar and drummer were former Big Sam members. Here's a pic....[img=http://aycu27.webshots.com/image/6546/2001656384271005482_th.jpg] (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2001656384271005482)

I showed my 4 year old granddaughter some of the festgiving pics. She is very intrigued by this idea of a music festival so i'll surely taking her to our local fest in may. She says she loves rock and roll guitar. She had to see all the pics of guitar and bass players and esp loved elliott cohn's swinging braided beard. Threadhead in training.

gris gris found this today from Live New Orleans:
Le Bon Temps, d.b.a., and Zeitgeist
November 12, 2006
On Sunday night at Le Bon Temps Roule, Elliott Cohn and the Cosmic Sweat
Society were joined by Shamarr Allen of Rebirth. The great thing about
New Orleans is that you can catch a tight funk band like this for free
in a room of twenty on a Sunday night. If you were in the mood to dance,
the music was there for you. The group played a majority of covers and a
minority of originals. The highlight was their almost metal version of
"Come Together."
