They get less love, but I'd have to rank my top 10 as:
Jimmy Robinson (twangorama, woodenhead, mulebone)
Tommy Malone (subdudes, etc)
Sonny Landreth
Renard Poche (Dr. John, etc:)
Dave Easley
Alex McMurray (tin men, 007, royal fingerbowl)
John Mooney,
Eric Krasno (not really New Orleans, but see him at fest every year)
Kenny Neal
Phil DeGruy
I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch, but that's the best I can do off the top of my head.

I've never been a fan of Brian, Leo or even June Y -- for my taste, they play too many notes.
Tab Benoit (is Houma close enough to New Orleans?)
Spencer Bohren
Little Freddie King
Lil' Buck Sinegal
Snooks Eaglin

West Bank Mike & the fisher project are quickly becoming one of New Orleans' hottest funky blues bands. Fronted by "West Bank" Mike Doussan (guitar, vocals), the fisher project (Scott Jackson, bass: Charles Brewer, drums) just took First place in the Sonny Boy Blues Society's Battle Of The Bands. This Achievement merits West Bank Mike & the fisher project a slot on the main stage of the Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival(formally King Biscuit Blues Fest) in October 2006. The band will also represent the society at the 2007 IBC in Memphis.
Another great Bluesman out of New Orleans: Mike Doussan

Jordan, I was going to list June Y but can't spell his last name. Another great slinger out of New Orleans. Can anyone help us on the spelling. Now Sonny is out of Beaux Bridge but he is one of the ones on top of my list for favorite on planet earth.

It is June Yamagishi and I do believe it is a thread to ask about who is your favorite, not who isn't... right Jordan?
To each his own....

Todd Duke plays with John Boutte; Rick Olivarez and Jack Cole both play with Johnny Sansone; Jack plays with Paula and the Pontiacs as well; Billy Gregory (formerly of It's a Beautiful Day) plays currently with Willie Lockett. All are journeymen who have played around town for years. I notice that someone has already mentioned Heavy D. I'd also add Marc Stone (March Stone band) Brint Anderson (formerly of Dr. John, now with Joe Krown) and Jimmy Ballero (Eddie Bo) to the list. There are a lot of fine guitar players in NOLA who don't get much attention because they don't front bands.

Snooks is at the top of my list. They're aren't enough strings on the fretboard for that guy.

Won't through rocks at all saw John Mayer sit in with BB King at his club in NYC and that young pop star can play the blues and has the respect of BB who should know a player when he sees one. I was way more than pleasantly surprised.

We caught Mayer jamming with BB King, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan in 2004 in the Cotton Bowl. Once again, all 4 of the above will be in Chicago this year for the Clapton Guitar Festival. Clapton invites some of the best guitar slingers including Mr Sonny Landreth.

Does Lucky Peterson count? (I don't know if he's from NOLA or not.) I picked up a couple of his discs the other day and have been pretty impressed. Capable of being alternately very soulful and blistering hot.
Last year we saw Bryan Lee at Banks St. and he had this kid playing lead who blew my mind with the fluidity of his licks and runs - reminded me alot of Jeff Beck in terms of making the hard look easy. I never did get his name...if anyone knows who I'm talking about maybe you could share it.
It goes without saying that June Yamagishi outsmokes most lead players on the planet.

Lucky always counts, but he's not a NOLA artist. He was born in New York where his father, James, operated a blues club. Lucky was on the old Ed Sullivan show playing drums when he was only seven years old. He currently lives in Florida, I believe. And he is one badass keyboard player, tool Check him out on Little Milton's Live at Westville cd, playing Hammond B3.

Brent Johnson is the other guitar player in Bryan's band. He lives on the north shore. Excellent player and a really nice guy.

I met up with a New Orleans native, Tony Sinopoli, here in Houston after the "storm" in '05. He's was playing when I first met him in 1965. Played with The Ancient Times, Mink, Spy Boy and more. Still playing every chance he gets.
Both he and Jimmy Bollero were classmates of mine in high school.
A few others not mentioned would be:
David Johnson
Don Norman
John Mooney
Brian Stotlz
Anders
Sonny
Dave Malone

Jen tell him hello and that man can rock my world anyday. Wow

My faves are Tab, & John Mooney, also Bryan Lee. I agree with Jordan in his post of 3 years ago(!), Yamaguchi & Stoltz drastically overplay, as does Sonny Landreth. I absolutely loved Leo Nocentelli's stuff with the old Meters, but nowadays he also overplays like crazy.
Music is an art, has to be tasteful, not some athletic showoff thing.
Make me cry with 8 notes, don't bore me with 100!
