Carol Fran suffered a stroke today according to friends and reported in Bob Corritore's Blues Newsletter. No details as of yet.Carol (http://www.myspace.com/carolfran1) has been residing recently in Laffeyette, Louisiana. She recorded classic sides for the Excello (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excello_Records) and Goldband (http://www.myspace.com/goldbandrecords) record labels during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and then made more recent recordings for the Black Top (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Top_Records) and JSP (http://www.jsprecords.com/) record labels in partnership with her late husband, guitar great Clarence Hollimon (http://www.answers.com/topic/carol-fran-clarence-hollimon). Carol (http://www.myspace.com/carolfran1) is certainly one of the greatest living female blues singers, and a sweet and loving person. Positive thoughts or Prayers are in order. not dead yet. it was a stroke, article is in present tense.
she needs prayers, not flowers.

Yes positive vibes her way for a strong recovery...such a fantastic singer..just one of many fine musicians that my late, great father turned me on to.

My friend Ira (a.k.a. Dr. Ike ) took me to the opening of Eddie Bo's Check Your Bucket club a few years back and she was playing along with Davell Crawford,John Cleary and others. I had never heard of her before that day but since have become a fan. I will say a prayer for her recovery and play some of her music.

I heard today that Carol Fran is talking and moving about some and seems to have avoided the worst parts of a stroke. She is expected to continue to improve with rest and rehab. I'm sure she appreciates all the good vibes and prayers sent her way.:cool:
