The Upbeat Lowdown Bar thread has been closed by the forum participants due to violation of their certificate of occupancy. The bar was unable to accomodate many long time patrons due to overcrowding.... :)
This bar has opened in its place.

Strawberry Harvest Lager Hits Shelves SOON
You’ve waited all year and now it’s almost here! Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager is back. Last year when we introduced the new limited edition brew, made with plump, sweet Louisiana strawberries it caused quite a sensation. 6,400 cases of the beer sold out in only six weeks.
Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager is made with ripe, red Louisiana strawberries, harvested at the peak of the season. Strawberry Harvest has the aroma and taste of the berries, with a refreshing and satisfying beer flavor. In response to the incredible demand, a greater quantity of Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager was brewed. However, President of Abita Brewing Company, David Blossman, reminds everyone, “Supplies are still limited and once they are gone…they are gone. We won’t make any more til 2008.”

that's so people can indentify me - at least half the time.
the other half my mouth is still open,
but according to those who love me - i'm bitchin'. ;)
and i was cracking up over the dogs, they were running amok.
a friend was trying to do a semi-formal photo shoot for us, including a 'family' shot with the dogs. we just wanted some shots of us when we weren't in costume &/or slurged (the humans, not the dogs).

R u sure u want to get a tattoo on your vacation? expecially in a hot sweaty environment? You'll have to cover so no sun on it during the day, and no swimmin pool action....I'm just saying cuz a friend of mine got one in Hawaii on her vacation and wished she had waited till back home. I do think the fleur de lis would be really nice and have thought about getting another tat...this might be one i'd choose....

Good advice MzJoey. Made the mistake of getting a tatoo about half-way through a Jersey Shore vacation many years ago. Did not stay out of the ocean, pool ,or sun, and ended up doing some minor damage to it. I would definately say if your going to get one wait till the vay k is almost over. It's not worth cramping your vacation lifestyle over.

Blue Baby - my last night in NOLA last December, I got a tattoo from Cameron at Electric Ladyland on Frenchmen St. and he was great to work with and did an excellent job (and I have 6 tats, so this is something I do know about - as opposed to the other things I yap on about on the Bored ;))
Here's a link to his page on their website: http://www.electricladyland.net/cameron.html
And I say - go for it, get your art! My Fleur de Lys tattoo that I got a month later really helped me deal with the sorrow and frustration of the storm. Electric Ladyland has a wonderful book of NOLA/Katrina art also!!
I would recommend not getting the tattoo until just before you leave - it enables you to fully enjoy your stay without having to worry about tattoo aftercare at the fairgrounds, etc.

My tatoo was done at Art Accent Tattoo 1041 N. Rampart Street years ago. It is a studio owned by Jacci Gresham. The color is still good and I felt that they were the cleanest shop in the city when I had mine done years ago.

Blue, there's been a lot of tattoo discussion on here and everyone raves about Electric Ladyland on Frenchman. I would get it on vaca too, near the end, makes it that much more special. I got one near the end of a Vegas vaca and it was just fine.

Of course! I am kind of bummed now that we have a board with pix that I don't have a pix of that seahorse, I love it, it's blues and all Celtic knotty :)
IMO the piercing hurt worse than the tattooing but of course it didn't take as long. The tattooing is just like a scratching really. I nearly passed out when I stood up and saw that hole in my belly ;) Did them all 100% sober, then got really tanked!

are you serious Amy? For me the belly piercing was nothing but the nose piercing was mind-blowingly painful. The tatt on my toe was hell, the tatt on my back was very painful but kind of cathartic at the same time. I got it when my life exploded into complete chaos and I found that it grounded me.....

It was probably mind over matter on the belly, that's a pretty thick chunk of metal getting stabbed through your skin! It WAS fast though. And I got woozy after looking down at the hole! I have noticed mine is a lot thicker gauge (is that the word) than any of my friends though . . . Tats didn't bother me at all. The one on my back took an hour, no problem, just felt like I was being scratched.
Yeah, I always thought I might like a toe or top of foot but I've also heard most artists won't put them there. Avoided ankles and arms b/c of work clothes, dress clothes, etc. Thought neck might be good as I so rarely put my hair up but I hadn't really thought of having short hair someday . . . Where else is there? (I am not doing a boob or a butt cheek!) I very much want another though, and want to get it in NOLA.

Yeah, my body piercings were much worse than the tats in terms of "discomfort" . . . the tattoos are TOO addictive, I recently was in the City (just before the Mardi Gras Party at The Independent) and got some new body jewelry and was SO tempted to get another tat right then and there.

Justagirl got her fleur-di-lis tat on the back of her neck when she had long hair. Then she gave her hair to locks of love and got that oh so cute hairdo she has now. I think THAT's an awesome look!! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-033.gif

I wanted the same kind of location for my first tat and I got it on the right-front shoulder, just next and below the clavicle . . . it's so very easy to hide if you want to (without it being a hassle), as well as show off:
Well, I'd show you a photo of it, but Photobucket is down (sheesh). :D
Yeah, that might be the spot. I really like back of the neck though, I'm kind of fixated on it and refusing to think of the future when I might have short hair. Now the only time I put my hair up is when it's really hot and that never happens at work.
Do tell where the piercings are too!!

Well, I grew up eating beef tongue (which I love, even though I don't eat red meat any more) - so the thought of it wasn't too strange, and they tasted good. However, I think I would pass on slicing them off the cow and eating them right then and there . . . ewwwww, indeed!
Mmm, my Dad's whole family and Jeff too, into the tongue. I can't get past the fact that it has tastebuds! Jeff will bring home a yummy burrito and then tell me it's tongue. Pass!! (Good way to keep me from eating his food though . . .) ;)

Maybe somewhere on the upper back/shoulder blade area, that area is never uncovered when at work, right? Hmmm . . . Well, would have to be below a tank top line I guess, otherwise would show when the suit jacket is off . . .
At about this point in the discussion last year, didn't someone come up with a cover up make-up kind of stuff for when you needed to be tat free?
Wish I had the nerve. :p

Well that's what I'm kind of thinking, something smallish and tasteful so even when it's visible it isn't that attention grabbing, plus you DO want to show it off sometimes.
I'm thinking I'll have long hair as long as I'm in the "big firm" world anyway . . .

Survey of Kitten's Body Art:
First tattoo: was Celtic Weave that later "blew up", now a blue lotus on leaf and water with aura around the top. Body location: right front shoulder.
Second tattoo: celestial scene (Radiant Sun over earth with some stars in night sky). Body location: lower back, just below pants line.
Third tattoo: Merkitty (part Kitty, part Mermaid), with Crab friend in swirling water. Body location: back of left calf (thus to hide, I wear long skirts with or without boots or trousers)
Fouth tattoo: Fleur de lys in New Orleans Mardi Gras colors (purple, gold and green) topped by a crown (to show that NOLA is the Ruler of my Heart). Body location: inside of right ankle.
Fifth tattoo: Mudra with Eye of Buddha in palm of hand (mudra are sacred Hindu/Buddhist/Indian hand positions). Body location: Outside of right hip.
Body piercings: 2 main ear piercings, 4 additional ear piercings on left ear lobe, 2 b00bs (one for each).

most painful piercing = tongue, wicked painful and awful swelling, even with steroids.....got it done the day before Fest 1987. Ate mango freezes and only mango freezes the whole time.
most painful tat = right ankle (don't ever get a tat on the bone!)
tats that I laughed thru = left boob, both deltoids (plenty of padding there!!)

Feet aren't great places for tattoos (neither are hands) as the skin gets much more exfoliation and such that will break down most art tattooed there - it's one reason a lot of tattoo artists don't like doing them there - not to mention the pain level is MUCH higher (less muscle and fat underneath to cushion the inking).
Part of my lotus is on the clavicle and that was by far the most painful part of that tattoo. It's one reason to think carefully about tattoos on the back/shoulder blades . . .

The piercing itself didn't hurt that much - it was very fast, I went to a really good piercer in Sacramento . . . however it was rather ouchy for some time afterward, much more so then the inkings. They did heal just fine and now I have some lovely hoops with amethysts!
But, you bring up a good point about pain tolerance levels though - and generally I think women do better than guys (they're so sensitive, the little dears ;) )

It healed quickly, I have a ton of very cool tongue rings. It does not "knock" on my bottom teeth. (Depends on your ring) I had my tongue pierced with my beloved dart team (with whom I share a tatoo). It is very.....ummmmm....functional.....(OK, delete me, you bastids!!!!)
I was told, if I took the "pin" out, it would heal up quickly, because the tongue is so vascular, but, even after not having a ring in for months, well, it still "goes in".

That happened to me a couple of months ago and it was freaky! My posts were landing above ones made earlier.
Let us know how you're doing after the procedure.
Hey Y'all......I'm back...had the shot this morning...the lidocain shot to numb the spot hurt more than the cortisone....I'm feeling MUCH better. I have to lie down for a couple of hours so I get to spend the time with my Threadhead friends!:D

Yea, Amy, it was two weeks:( It just wasn't getting much better. I was taking one step forward and two steps back...that's great on the dance floor, but not for pain ;) I should be almost normal by tomorrow:D
