Just finished mine! What a great experience that was! I loved that many of the bands had videos and music clips. It helped me make up my mind in some instances and decide to check out some new music to me. It's good fun seeing what other friends of mine on FB selected.

Bands I'd like recs on: James Andrews and the Crescent City Allstars
and Bill Summers and the Jazalsa. They both had funk in their description, so of course I'm curious! If I get around to it, I'll look for some You Tube videos. In the meantime, I'd like some Threadhead feedback. I saw that Vicki and or Sha (can't remember which one) marked them down on their schedules.

Thanks you all!

James Andrews is Trombone Shorty's big brother, and Glen David Andrews' (I think) cousin. So there's talent in that blood.

Bill Summers is a percussionist, you probably saw him at fest years ago as part of the driving force behind Los Hombres Calientes.

Candy I do not know how your tastes run but James Andrews is usually fun and high energy! Typically he brings a bunch of ALLSTARS to the stage including Glen David and Shorty!

I personally am a BIG fan of Bill Summers though I think of him more in a jazz/world music vien than funk... check out The Headhunters and Los Hombres Calientes for a feel of what he puts down.

Thanks! I checked both of them out on You Tube last night along with a host of others. It's addictive this pre-JF "prep". ;) I liked what I heard of James Andrews!!

Yeah, I didn't hear much funk on his videos. Not sure why the fest attached that genre to his name (along with jazz). When it comes to jazz, I like it on the funky side or traditional New Orleans jazz/Dixieland jazz. I plan on checking out Keely Smith. Never heard of her before, but I like her sound on this video. Anyone know much about her?

Answered my own question. :) I'm definitely checking her out now that I've read her bio! Love Louis Prima songs...
