Is anyone going to French Quarter Fest????? I am waiting for the schedule to come out before I decide what day. I guess the weather may also affect my decision.

I'd love to go someday, but I can't afford the time to do both and JF always wins.

We are...also anxiously awaiting the schedule. Certainly it is coming out a lot later than last year!

I hope to go on one day depending on my schedule and the fest's. My TH meetup karma has been severely lacking for the past few tries, so I'm not placing bets.

This is the first year I post on the thread so I've never meet anyone yet. I would like to meet up with some of you guys who are going. The schedule is late this year. I'll keep checking the schedule and post again once it is up. I am lucky enough to live close enough to go to both. Thank goodness !!!!!

I just saw on Shannon McNally's website she will be at FQF Sat, April 14. Also Big Sam Funky Nation and Trombone Shorty's my space pages have them playing April 14 as well. Haven't seen anything else yet.
I will definitely be out there for a Jazz Fest warm-up.
The schedule IS late this year.

You will love it. I've been twice. But because of affordability it's always a choice between jazzfest and fqf.
It's a totally different experience than jazzfest. You get a sense of openness and being in the city (and right on the river) that you don't with jf. The food, while perhaps not able to compete with jf, is very good and plenty of choices. Plus you can always drop into a restaurant or bar for a break and change of pace. The music, of course, is pure new orleans. But I can't emphasize enough that the feel is not like jazzfest. It's different, just as good, but different. Have a great time!

Be sure to post pictures on your site. By the way I am a Native Texan. Cow Town girl born and raised!!! You can take the girl outta Texas but not the Texas out of the girl.
I miss the cowboys with nice hats, big buckles and tight jeans. Friday night buckouts, the lakes, and ATTITUDE baby!!

I'll may try to drive over for the day, most likely Saturday. I'd like to see the schedule, but then again, I know it'll be good.
Bumping for others planning to be in town this weekend for FQF. If anybody is interested in a meet-up, maybe we could gather for Kermit's wedding right after his set (3:15 - 4:30) on Saturday. Maybe on the walkway along the River, adjacent to the stage?
I'm open to any other ideas/suggestions.

I'll be there Fri - Sun. Staying on Decatur St. Will be at Kermit...also suggested (on another thread I guess?).....oyster shooters or bloody marys early at Crescent City Brewhouse any day.

We'll be there Friday. Probably Tin Men, Grayson, Coco, and Theresa, although John Autin is a friend of mine ( He used to play keyboards for the original Osborne Orchestra with Theresa). FOMS galore!
My first FQF, so I have no idea what a good meetup place might be. I imagine the Kermit wedding will be pretty packed. But I'm watching this thread for when y'all get the detailed decided.
OK, having given this some serious thought (ha) I would propose that any threadheads that want to meet up at FQF meet at the "Louisiana Life Stage" (which used to be called the Hibernia/Capital One stage). It is a small-ish stage with a small lawn area in front and beer and food booths all around. It is centrally located (of the 3 stages along the river, this one is the stage nearest the moonwalk and Jackson Square). I'll be on the sidewalk on the right side (as you look at the stage) and up pretty close to the stage. Looking at the schedule, I would propose 1:45 - 2:00 each day - there is a break at that time at that stage each day so it won't be too crowded.
(For those who were there, this is the stage where MOFest was held...)
I'll be the big guy wearing a straw hat. :)

I can try for that...my rough schedule for Friday is Grayson, maybe some Paula, then most of the day at the main stage, but I always do alot of traveling & with now the convience of a room on Decatur so no POLs for me.

Do you all know where to eat when you go to the French Quarter Festival? I mean there's some good food at the booths during the day but in the evenings I strongly suggest Muriel's in Jackson Square or Irene's Cuisine on St. Phillip and Royal. Both are very good!
I assumed I'd be full when FQF ends at 9. But if not, port-o-call may be port-o-calling me.

Hey IB, call me! My phone died and I got a new one, so I have no numbers...so call me (and tell me who you are when you do...LOL)
Will someone email me and let me know where there's going to be a meet up? cote underscore rae at yahoo dot com
My comp is on the fritz, my phone is one the fritz....heck, i'm on the fritz!!!
I plan on being there all weekend.
If I'm not outside, you can find me at the Kerry....or just ask the bartender if I've been in. :)
So I was wondering, why are there no Mardi Gras Indian tribes performing at FQF?

You got it...we still have our RI phone numbers. Haven't completely converted to Floridians yet!

Good question - I never thought about it but you're right, I've never seen the Indians at FQF. There is an "Opening second line parade with the Navy Jazz Band" tomorrow morning at 10:00 from Bourbon St. to Jackson Square - I wonder if any Indians might show up for that? Seems like there would be a New Orleans based brass band if the Indians were part of the deal, but I think I might just go down early and check it out anyway...

We need to join you. We'll have 2 virgins with us that absolutely must go there! Aside from it being my favorite place! It's Evil's favorite too!

My companion and I have finally committed to going to FQF tomorrow (Saturday), spending the night and returning mid-day Sunday (I have to work Sunday evening). It'll be the first time at FQF for both of us.
My friend was a JazzFest virgin last year. I tried for ten years, literally, to get her to come to Fest with me, but she always had other things to do. She finally came with me last year, and after a couple of hours of the first day, she was hooked. Now she's just like the rest of us, saving and planning and looking forward to Jazzfest. And when she really really really wanted to go to FQF too, I just couldn't say no.
Here's hoping the r-word stays away. See y'all there!

We should be there by 1:45. If so, we'll drop by and say hi.
