I thought a thread like this seemed appropriate. How great is it not to have to know all the formating symbols!!!!

Love it. So, how do i post where I am from?

And a signature???

festydave

If you go to the "quick links" button in the info bar you can edit your signature and make other changes.

As I posted in the "Welcome" thread, is the Calendar open to postings from anybody?

It seems that that could get out of control, leading to an overwhelming amount of info being posted on the Calendar, making it un-navigable and defeating its utility.

No offense to Ohio, but another example is that JazzFest is currently listed as a 10-straight-day (4/27 - 5/6) event. Unless I missed something  , that usally isn't the case! A newbie to the board might look at that and be misguided.

Well, one thing I like is that you can edit your post. Doesn't look like you can edit the Title though.....wanted to add the "n" to questions. Oh well!

This new board makes me :D . You can also change the display # of posts per page so that there are fewer pages to scroll through.

One question is that Scoopjohnd can't seem to post anything. This msg is from him.....
"I got all that stuff, it lets me log in, thanks me for logging in, redirects me to a new page that says I'm not logged in. I try to edit my profile and it says I can't do that. I went to the contact them page to explain the problem, hit send, and then get an email saying my message couldn't be delivered."

He said his browser is ancient, would that cause this problem? We just can't have the bar without Scoooooooooop.

You can also click on an individual Threadhead and find all post by that person. Good. and Bad.

Did scoop click on the link that he got in the email to activate him?

I do know that photos and other similar content really use bandwidth, and storage space.
We don't want "owe zee" having to build a server farm to facilitate our addiction...

I love love love this new board. I vote for avatars and pix too! Can't take up *that* much room, can it? This board is so FAST! I hope the pix we've been pasting into replies aren't problematic. It was just too fun to resist. Did you see you can also search the threads? That's going to be great for newbies when there are tons of them and they want to search for an answer to a specific question. I'm wondering how that ignore poster function works, I don't really want to have to find out, but I'm glad it's there :)

ohio
10-20-2006, 03:37 PM
no offense taken...I was just doing a test to se if it was a personal or group calendar. It's fully editable (I'll change it). Personally, I think it could be a great asset- folks can post the dates of various music fests etc., and it will be easy to peruse. I notice that if you enter your birth date in your profile, the calendar notes it. You don't have to enter your birth year either.

ohio
10-20-2006, 03:40 PM
Vina....I mean Amy, just go to a poster's profile- there you find the buttons to 'add to buddy list' or 'add to ignore list'

Amy Winette
10-20-2006, 03:49 PM
Saw that Ohio, I'm just wondering how it actually works (and hoping I don't have to find out). For example, if you click "ignore," does that mean that posters posts just won't show up on your screen? Hmm . . .

I put you on the Ignore list to see what happens, Vina. It turns your post into this:

http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/images/statusicon/post_old.gif 18 Minutes Ago
Amy Winette (http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/member.php?u=16)

This message is hidden because Amy Winette is on your ignore list (http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/profile.php?do=editlist).

Certainly would remove the temptation to feed the trolls......

Where are you trying to post from IBJ? Corona discovered that putting pix in photobucket and posting from there works. What you need to do is RIGHT click on the pix, click on properties, highlight the WHOLE URL, click on the "insert image" yellow mountains and sun icon on the message, paste the url in there (but delete the duplicate hhtp://) and it *should* work!

ohio
10-20-2006, 04:30 PM

Sure. It has to be a picture that is already posted somewhere else on the web, like at yahoo photos or something similar. Find the photo you want and then right click/Properties. Copy the photo's address from the Properties box. Now click reply on this board, click the yellow box (Insert Image) from the Reply Editor. A window will open where you will paste the photo's address. that's it!

Thanks for the nice reply Ohio! I'm just a little concerned that this board & its features could get out of hand (like the last one did at times) by people/trolls using it for nefarious (or other) purposes.

Rock on.

ohio
10-20-2006, 04:43 PM
It sure could! If the calendar gets abused, I'm sure festydave will turn it off.

Carolina Beadhead
10-20-2006, 04:46 PM
Festy, ect. have more contol with this board than the other. If it gets out of hand, posts can be deleted or moved and threads can be locked. Posters can be banned and bells, whistles can be turned off or on at any time and old posts can be archived.

And we have the ability to "ignore posters" and report posts.

It's not perfect but it's a d*mn sight better than what we had.

Amy Winette
10-20-2006, 04:47 PM
Looks like photobucket, myspace and costco work, ofoto, yahoo, and snapfish don't (not sure about shutterfly).

Amy Winette
10-20-2006, 04:49 PM
There's a little button to report a post too. Not something to be taken lightly, but I'm sure if any ugly hate speech posts appear on this new board they will be reported and deleted. Again, hoping we never have to find out how that works.

Carolina Beadhead
10-20-2006, 04:49 PM

What was it that you deleted Bry? How'd I miss it? Hmm, wondering what other gems from the other side we need to bring over. Wonder where that frapr map went. Oh, I do have a tech question, is there a way to "tack" certain posts to the top so they never fall down? Not sure what they would be, if we had a "board rules" it should probably be tacked to the top . , .

So, if I wanted to post a pic, are you saying you have to have a web page set up to upload it to first?

Amy Winette

No, but that is an option. Other options include the photos you would have posted on your MySpace page, or you can use an image hosting service such as http://photobucket.com/. I'm sure there are other service sites as well. The idea here is that photos are large files to store, so the Fest folks don't want to store them for you (storage = $$$$). So we have to use other sites that will...

how do I post a pic of myself?

If you mean in your profile, go to Quick Links in the tool bar at the top. Click Edit Profile then Edit Profile Picture. Locate a small (no larger than 100x100 pixels) on your computer using the Browse function. Click Save Changes.

If you mean in a post here, the picture must be located somewhere on the web that allows hotlinking. Myspace, Photobucket, your own website are a few that do. Once the pictures is on the site you want to use, put the cursor in the post here and click Insert Image (the yellow icon with the mountains). Paste the web addy in the box and hit Ok.

Tah dah!

I think it's the difference between hosting all the image files on their servers as opposed to just linking to them on other sites. If they were to host the file for every picture we put up it would take up TONS of room on their servers.

Avatars are little pictures that appear with your name on the top of each post. Sometimes it's actually a pic of yourself, sometimes it's another picture or cartoon, some folks even use little animations. Kind of like the pictures folks post of themselves on myspace.

The welcome post was the first post and people stopped posting in it so I figured it could move down.

It's taken two weeks for them to give me permission to post and now I've got nothin' to say.

Ain't that the way it is.

Hope I don't only get one post every two weeks.

YYR Festy... maybe put a sticky on the introduce yourself thread so newbies always have a place to feel welcome.

Or maybe just sling every newbie a case of red... make em feel welcome AND young and healthy enough to tackle Fest at the same time! :D

Oh, sorry... I now see that there is already a sticky to the introduce yourself thread. Case of red prolly wouldn't go astray though! :D

Has anyone else noticed that the type size in the WYSIWYG mode doesn't always work and also that the edit function doesn't always show up at the bottom of the message even when it does??
Any ideas, Dave?

Hmmmm, CBH, if you haven't noticed I may have to check my meds!!
Seriously, though, since I usually use the size 3 type, I've found that sometimes it isn't as big as it should be. On the edit function, sometimes the "last edit" bar shows up at the bottom of the message and sometimes it doesn't.

LOL Maybe it speaks to my lack of observation instead of your meds. I'll watch more carefully and see...
