You guys are talking my language! I don't think you'll see exactly that type of R & B in New Orleans, but there is some close. I used to be a member of the Association of Beach & Shag Club DJs, but I had to give it up due to my inability to get to the beach once a year. I'm also in the National Association of Rhythm & Blues DJs (former President), and lots of our members play that stuff. Now that Willie Tee is no longer with us, there isn't much chance to hear that smoother R & B in N.O. I'm not a very good shagger, but I can do the basic a little.

I forgot to say that the local New Orleans dance is the Jamaica, which varies the most from the shag, bop, push, and West Coast, than any of the other local dances I've seen. They have some great people in their dance clubs, though.

The Jamaica is a dance that I don't think is done anywhere but in New Orleans. It's an eight count circular dance done primarily to R & B or rock and roll music of the fifties. The name doesn't come from the tropics; it's named after the Jamaica Lounge in the Irish Channel where the dance originated. It's nearest cousin is the swing or bop. There are local groups that dance the dance and keep it alive.

She is a good one too.

My oldest brother graduated from college in about '62 I think. He had the best collection of albums including lots of Beach Music and swing. The music was always on when he was around.

He loved Billy Ward therefore I loved Billy Ward....;) Enjoyed his music from his time with Billy Ward and the Dominos, to the Inkspots. Very talented man.

The Tams were another group I enjoyed a bit latter in the 60's...they still tour from what I hear down Southeast way.
