it would seem that the all-nite new orleans stage is a thing of the past,.. but ruthie will defintely help ease that pain :) ....

mitch woods is due in town.... the dude is one great guy to hang and converse w/,.. but he really needs to let someone else handle the vocals on stage... jus' sayin'....

as for the rest of the nite....

the soulphonics & ruby velle (funk/soul) are a can't miss for me,.. don't care how they have them listed in the rankin' order,..
http://www.myspace.com/soulphonics

same w/ jonathan tyler and the northern lights (rock/soul/roots),..
http://www.myspace.com/jonathantylermusic

3rd stone band (jam band/funk/afro-beat) may turn out to be 2nd, 3rd, or 4th on the list,..
http://www.myspace.com/3rdstoneband

they had bernie worrell join them at bear creek in 2009... one t-head might have caught that set,.. and that head (less one  ),.. will most likely attempt to smack me down but good if he did (or even if he didn't),.. at some point in this thread...

the ettes (big beat/punk ) will hopefully be seen/heard,..
http://www.myspace.com/theettes .... they have a very generous 10 tunes awaitin' you there.....

black blondie (alternative/experimental/r&b) seems due a look/hear see,..
http://www.myspace.com/blackblondiemusic

ever so klever (swing/rockabilly/ska) has caught my eye for some reason ;),.. http://www.myspace.com/eversoklever

and then there is the reverend billy c. wirtz for some good times,..
http://www.myspace.com/rbcw ... mitch woods w/ a comedic and vocal upgrade...

plenty more to consider... it's a foms filled evenin' no matter the course taken...

Now why would I do that? I didn't see that set at Bear Creek. I think one of 3rd Stone was playing in that jam at Wanee in the Loop that you stayed at all night.

Alejandro Escovedo is #1 on my Heatwave list.

First I've seen that apparently Bob Schneider's appearance was canceled. That's going to make Bren very sad.

Alejandro Escovedo is #1 on my Heatwave list.

great pick.... i can't believe they have him listed 2nd from last... i neva' got that far down the list....

this version of his "everybody loves me" tune seriously rocks.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlhK0CKcaao&feature=player_embedded

had checked his tour dates out to see if he would be doin' a solo thing or playin' w/ his band.... his pendin' new release would indicate a tour w/ the band but their current tour seems to end in mid april....

-------------------

For the past few years, he has played the last night of South by Southwest, the Austin music fest that features the best and brightest in the business. Last week, he was still excited about his March 21 gig at Austin’s Continental Club.

“It rocked like it was 1976,” he says. “Michael Monroe of (punk legends) Hanoi Rocks was there, a guy from the New York Dolls. It was incendiary.

“It was perfect. … it had the look, the clothes, the atmosphere, triple guitars, the attitude of rock ‘n’ roll.”

This recollection energized Escovedo, as he segued into a rap about why, as he approaches 60, he feels he’s doing some of the best work of his life.

“Rock ‘n’ roll is about sweaty clubs. It’s like a ceremony: beer and sweat and blood. Rock ‘n’ roll is a contact sport.

“At my age, I feel the same way as I did when I was a kid. I’ve been doing this for what, 35 years now. I don’t know anything else. I don’t want anything else.” I don’t see any reason to give it up.”

Ah, life is sweet when you feel 16 at almost 60.

Monday, March 22, 2010 at 12:39AM UPDATE: Acclaimed Austin rocker Alejandro Escovedo and his band The Sensitive Boys have wrapped up Street Songs of Love, his second album with famed David Bowie producer Tony Visconti for a June 29 street via Fantasy / Concord. Mixed by noted soundman Bob Clearmountain, the new album is said to have a self-described "simpler approach" and follows up Escovedo's 2008 Visconti-produced album The Animal. Escovedo, named No Depression's Artist of the Decade in 1998, is now managed by Jon Landau, the longtime manager for Bruce Springsteen.

great article here: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2006/05/alejandro-escovedo.html

---------------------------------

as an aside,.. sheila e is his niece.... the e stands for escovedo... maybe she'll show up,.. she's not on tour and the latin hook of ybor city may draw her interest....

edit:

1st it was helpin' me get through an afternoon of work on the puter,.. then it jus' kinda took over....

That's what your Kitten said on air a little bit ago. I've never seen her but with the two thumbs up from you kids, that's good enough for me and she is now on my "must see" list

...yea, wow. Ruthie played in our small town a few months ago, along with her ex husband.

Who invites guests to Jazz Fest anyway? I'd like to see Arlo Guthrie.

Um, freebo and the Missus are IN! :D

I'll go out on a limb and say: Should be a barn burner. ;)

Sirs! I just realized this will be my third Ruthie Foster exposure this year. Dang! That's good living...

But: I really hope that Tornado Rider waits until Alejandro's set is finished before they launch into their sonic mayhem. That'll be a buzzkill if they overlap.

And, for the first time in years, I won't be working the 8 am - noon setup shift.... Just too much effort that early in the day, and it affects my ability to enjoy my evening to its fullest. :o

Note to self: Don't get caught at New World Brewery in a rainstorm. Or, if that happens, don't drink too much too fast. :p

Whew...

freebo
who's still recovering from Spring Fest > Wanee > Jazz Fest
p.s. to PaulC: Do ya need me to hold on to some peanuts for your adornment? I've got a handful left... but they're going fast.

incredible weather allowed for a great nite of music....

ruthie foster continues to mightily impress,.. although i personally believe she deserves a better band (family ties are important,..but they don't come close to matchin' her talent,.. nor do they serve to elevate it),..she's jus' that good despite them...

i gladly take back my previous comments regardin' mitch woods,.. as he has improved his vocal skills quite a bit... he was havin' himself a grand ol' time...

lumiscent orchestrii,.. yup,.. jus' another romanian gypsy punk experience... o.k.,.. but not my cup of tea...

then on to the best of the best last nite.... alejandro escovedo and the sensitive boys rocked the place silly.... top set of the nite... incredibly talented and tight band w/ the coolest of dudes frontin' them...

tornado rider,.. were as described "crazy cello-driven rock"... that's the truth,..and you can color me impressed...

jason ricci & new blood... again,.. nailed that "scorching harmonica blues" tag... stayed for 90% of their set... it was damn good...

jonathan tyler and the northern lights.... their rock was soulful,.. very hip... too small a taste,.. but what they hey,.. ya' jus' can't do it all....

denied entry to 3rd stone band due to overcrowdin' at the time... fire marshall rules don't ya' know,.. headless says they were the real deal...

instead of bummin' on the back up to enter,.. was lured over to boom box
and their jamband electronica,.. which got the dancin' shoes warmed up... happy people,.. happy feet...

ended w/ the soulphonics & ruby velle,.. hot funky soul,.. very hot lead singer,... more dancin',.. plenty of smilin'...

the bears enjoyed bein' out in such great weather,.. and they loved chillin' w/ their good friends that were on hand to share their "smooth" bounty... reposado corralejo,.. that helped that fine choice of draft beers work.... bass,.. stella,.. a fine ipa that i can't recall....

nice to see headless often throughout the evenin',.. mr. and mrs. festin'gators,.. and mr. and mrs. freebo..... good times my friends,.. very good times...
