Hey everyone. Last time I was at the fest, I was underage. So obtaining booze was a whole other process altogether. Now that I'm legal, where are the good hangs by the fairgrounds for before and after? Any secrets or tidbits of info?
Thanks folks!

Liuzza's By The Track. Pre Fest & Post Fest!! You can't miss us. :)
Liuzza's is cool, but it's a big street party. Folks pop inside to buy beverages, then hang on the street. Lots of fun, but if you're looking for somewhere to pull up a barstool and relax, Liuzza's isn't that.

So this is why I should start bringing a chair...never been to Liuzza's. Maybe this is the year.
We have stopped at neighbors yards and had a cold one with them and some mighty fine chicken too!

Please do not allow Linza to fool you on her "chair" thing at Liuzza's. She would prefer to pet doggies and end up on the pavement. "LINZA'S DOWN!"
Can't wait to see Peanut Paul C and his honey bottle picking us up off the ground. Maybe it is my turn this year!

An alternative is Brooks Seahorse Saloon, on Gentilly across the street from the Fairgrounds. It's always crowded pre and post fest, too.

Logistical question...
We're driving because I got one of our passes with parking. Is there a place to park on the street by Liuzza's pre-fest so that we can have a cocktail (OJ for the driver!) and then drive around to where we enter for our parking? I've never been to Liuzza's, but from looking at the map, it is directly across the track from where I parked last time I went.

The neighborhood requires a residental parking permit, and it's enforced during Fest. I know that from experience. Perhaps if you don't linger too long...

I love going to Liuzza's in the mornings before fest. As most of y'all know, I can't even drink any more, but I just love meeting up there. Everybody's in a fest mood, but they have time to visit before the gates open. During meetups behind Ms. Lena's everyone is in a hurry to go hear music and is somewhat distracted.

That's OK, I'm not getting dressed today at all (home sick with laryngitis) Right now I'm getting ready to enjoy a nice NyQuil haze and watch the LIFE series from Discovery Channel that we taped while we were in Vegas. I absolutely LOVE shows like this! When we first got an HD television and an HD cable box, we spend weeks watching NatGeo and DiscoveryHD just for the beautiful pictures.

Oh, if it looks risky we won't park there. We bought VIP tix again this year, one of which I got with parking. I'm just not sure how early the Fest folks will be there to let us park, etc. If I can get in there early, we can just walk around to Liuzzas :)

you should be able to find out the exact time,
but long ago, before VP, they let the cars in around the 10:30ish or later. i think it was the same time as they open the pedestrian gates.
you might be able to do a short term illegal park around liuzza's, but sometimes they are really harsh about having the neighborhood pass in the window to get into the area. and then when you leave to park inside, you will be trying to drive through pedestrians and have to make 2 lefts to get to the street you need.
a lot of work for a bloody.

Yeah, that is what I'm thinking. On Saturday we're letting our NOLA friend use our parking pass, so maybe we'll just have him pick us up at Liuzzas on Saturday morning :)
VIP offers reentry, right? The other idea might be to park the car, wait for the backside gates to open at 11:00, then just cross the middle of the FG and exit by the Gospel tent. You'd be at Liuzza's by 11:20, could hang there for a half hour even, and be back inside by noon.
That'd be a much shorter walk than to go around the whole outside of the Fairgounds, I'll bet a mile shorter or more.

why dont you just come in the sauvage gate and meet them inside the fest?
its only a few short blocks to the gate from Liuzza's, and driving through the hood can be slow.

Heh, that is usually more our style. Not sure which vehicle we'll be driving down. Might dictate putting a cooler in the back of either (and chairs, sunbrellas, blanket...) since we can do in/out.
Will have to get some texting numbers from folks to find out if the party is still going on for us to walk thru to Liuzza's or just meet up by Ms. Lena's instead.

Greg, your my type of person. Hell, I was looking very hard the other day at a 30 pack of Busch Lite for 14.95. That is .50 (-tax) per beer. I really didn't need 30 beers so I ended up with 6/Molson Golden.

Thanks, Fred. Being out of work will make you look for deals. I paid $13 for a six pack of Sierra Nevada Big Foot Ale last night and enjoyed the hell out of it, but I mostly grab a 30 pack of Icehouse ( 5.5% :) ) for the same price.

Hi - newbie here.
Who is Ms. Lena? and Can you exit the Fairgrounds to go to Luizza's or do you have to start or end there?
Here is some info:
During the months that preceded the 2006 Fest, the Threadheads discovered that one of the charity beverage booths at Fest was in trouble. Lena Stewart was having problems finding enough volunteers to staff the Zulu Diamondcutters’ booth. Many of the members of the Diamondcutters had been displaced by Katrina and it looked like the group would have to give up their largest annual fundraising opportunity. But the Threadheads came to her rescue and, since 2006, have organized and volunteered en masse for Ms. Lena's Brigade. Over the past 3 years more than 150 volunteers, donating approximately 600 hours of their time, have made the booth possible allowing the Diamondcutters to continue their community service projects.
A general admission ticket does NOT have in and out privileges. Some of the higher priced tickets do... most people start and end at Liuzza's...HTH :)
