Here's the deal with the Zephyrs' tickets.
If we have a minimum of 20 peopple, they will block seats for us and leave tickets @ Will Call so we can pay for them individually as we each arrive at the stadium that day (pretty cool). We can add to the group up to a week in advance.
The game we have picked is Wed. May 2nd @ 11:30A vs Round Rock (Astros AAA). The tickets are 6.50, 7.50 & 8.50. It is Weenie Wednesday - hot dogs for $1.
Our contact @ the Zephyrs is Derek. Right now he just has my name and number but as soon as we are 20 (hopefully), I'll get him the group info - we'll get our name on the scoreboard.
I fyou want to check out the details - http://www.zephyrsbaseball.com
My home email is ckobrin@pacbell.net & work is ckobrin@causeforce.com. Look forward to hearing from fellow baseball junkies!

Baseball for breakfast! Yahoo! I'm in, looks like fun. Can we get the group rate if we sit in different sections, or do we have to pick which seats? I'm partial to the box seats myself.

I thought we'd live large and go for the $8.50 seats!
After what I just paid for seats in SF and Anaheim, it's a bargain!
I'm in for one - its all about livin' large in the box seats!
They can probably arrange to have us in sun or shade, at our preference. Does anybody have one? (A preference, that is...)

Hmmm, good question. I defer to the locals on this one, but I know that sun can be mighty warm come May, and a sunburn would be a bad way to start off the Fest.

I'm in!!! Personally, as an "albino" redhead - I'd prefer a more shady spot so I won't spontaneously combust in the sun ;)
I'd vote for shade too if we have a choice - but it won't stop me from going if we aren't in the shade...

Last July I was part of a team of folks who worked on three homes, and one of our nights was a Zepher's game. It was a lot of fun. Very nice facility and a very fun experience. It was cool to intro our Texas friends to NOLA.
One of my musician friends who was working on the recovery krewe asked me if I knew a club we could go to to listen to great music. This was back in July of 2006. I said sure. Well we left where we were staying in Metairie and drove to DBA in the Marigny. It was a Monday night. The guys that were playing were a bunch of friends from Galactic, Papa Gros Funk, and Bonerama plus a few others. My friends were blown away. It was so cool to have the honor of exposing them to GREAT MUSIC! Definitely a magic moment.
My musician friend pulled me aside a few days later, and said, "I understand now why you love it so much."

no matter where i am, i be living large - extra large actually.
i don't think there is shade unless your go with one of the suites or tents.
i vote for the box seats, they're 1/20 of the price of single game Cardinal box seats.

my plan is to visit the shop on monday or tuesday morning (if open), cause the BF will still be in town. if we get out of the game in time, would love to go by the open house before heading to Ingrid's.

There are definitely some spots that are shadier than others, especially as the sun moves from directly overhead. Third base side, higher up in the lower deck (nearer the concourse for easy access to the beer stand). Of course for those that feel a need to be closer to the field, there isn't much shade!

Excellent! We'll get along just fine. I may not love the Yankees like a native, but I do hate the Red Sox and Mets, so that counts for something, right?
I saw my first World Series game at Yankee Stadium in 2001 (maybe 6 weeks after 9/11; George W. threw out the first pitch - talk about security!). But having the Astros in the Series in 2005 while I was stuck in Houston after K. was quite a treat. Unfortunately the Series that year kind of sucked for the 'Stros!

Good possibility Tommy Manzella will be the 2nd baseman for Round Rock. He has been playing very well for the Astros in Spring training. He is a former Tulane star who is a "fine young man" (in my best Harry Carey voice).

that's McGuire - he's laying low in California.
Pujols is a normal size guy. I really don't think he uses any kind of substances. Pujols did diddly squat in the WS, and the Cardinals still managed to become the WORLD CHAMPIONS! And we did it on about 1/4 of the yankees salaries. So Taguchi rocks, and he will still make less than 1 million this year.

Having been to the old stadium to see the Cards there - it wasn't anything to write home about - hopefully the new place is much better!
Actually, that whole Series was rather ironic as when LaRussa left Oakland, the buzz was that he was going to the Red Sox - but he ended up with the Cards instead. Thus, I've always had a bit of a fondness for them - as I REALLY like and respect Tony - I even met him once in S.F., when he signed a baseball for my brother - completely nice guy and he loves animals!!!

Well, it was really huge and kind of cold/cementy - but I only just saw the one game there when I was in St. Louis for business in 2001/2 . . . Similar to the old Gahden in Boston...it had charm (the Garden also had rats the size of small dogs on the cold, cold nights) I like the FleetCenter/TD Banknorth Garden for its amenities (clean bathrooms, great sitelines, excellent concessions) just wish the Bruins or Celtics could field a winning team soon. Gimme the small dogs, anyday. Here in Detroit they tore down Olympia where you felt like you were gonna fall outta your seat in the upper deck and land at center ice and replaced it with Joe Louis Arena where only the rich folks can reach the ice with the fabled octopus!
Meanwhile, fabulous old Tiger Stadium is moldering away, while the Tigers play at the COMA, er Comerica Park, another Six Flags job, with, honest to God, a ferris wheel. Meanwhile, Comerica has just announced they are moving their headquarters to Texas. Hmmm, Borders Park??? Nah...

LA sports venues have gotten even more outrageous. The Staples Center changes beer prices depending on who is playing (Lakers, Clippers, Kings). Dodger Stadium has actually run out of $12 Heinies and Coronas. Surprisingly, Anaheim has the best beer selection for the best price and they sell for nine innings!

Love of Your Team Can Soon Be Everlasting
By RICHARD SANDOMIR
Published: March 8, 2007
For the baseball fan who has everything in the here and now, how about a team-licensed urn for his ashes in the hereafter?
Yes, Yankees fans, an aluminum urn with pinstripes, the interlocking NY logo, a place on top for a ball that you might have caught at the ballpark and a personalized name plate * all resting on a tiny home plate.
Morbid? Bizarre? Not to Clint Mytych, the president of Eternal Image, the supplier of the urns (there are also coffins). Major League Baseball, he said, had little resistance to the idea.
“I think they’re progressive minded,” Mytych said by telephone from his office in Farmington Hills, Mich. “We sold baseball the deal over the phone and never met in person. All they saw were concept drawings.”
Mytych said that fans cannot directly order the urns, so they are unlikely to be hoarded by ghouls looking to get them signed and sell them on eBay. The $699 urns will go on sale opening day, a note of finality, of sorts, to start the season, and can be bought only from funeral homes. (Pet owners can order cat and dog urns from Mytych’s company.)
Mytych, 26, initially sought the approval of Corvette and Mustang to let him use the automakers’ classic designs for urns and coffins, but they rejected the idea. But Precious Moments, a figurine maker, the Vatican Library and M.L.B., which reached a licensing agreement with Eternal Image last June, said yes. “We feel the creativity’s been bred out of the funeral industry,” he said. “Some of the Big 3 in the industry have been around since the 1880s, and they never tried a branded product.”
He recognizes he has landed in what some might deem the bizarro wing of merchandising. But he insisted that he is marketing to the most ardent of fans, those who want to take their teams with them.
“If your uncle dies and he was a passionate Red Sox fan,” he said, responding with a rhetorical question, “is it really more fitting to have him cremated and just put him in a regular urn, or one like this that supports his passion, makes the remembrance that much sweeter?”
The Red Sox and the Yankees are in the first group of team urns, along with the Braves, the Cubs, the Tigers, the Dodgers, the Cardinals and the Phillies. Coffins for those who want to follow those teams into the great beyond will be on sale for the stretch run of the pennant races.

Oh, don't even get me started on L.A. sports (the fans who come late and leave early, etc.)!!! That kind of pricing only adds insult to injury.

Dodger Stadium has become dangerous. We've been hassled and spit on. Ever since Arte Moreno bought the Angels, it's become a great baseball experience.

its probably the weather - they can't sit through 9 innings in that dry 78 degrees.
startin around the middle of June we endure 100 degree + humidity to rival NOLA, we survive rain, thunderstorms, & tornado force winds, tehn in October it was literally freezing some nights.
and then we have to be nice to the Cub fans 'cause they're team has been in a slump for almost 100 years. :p we love hosting the Cubs, its always a great party in the bleachers. its nothing like the rivalry 'tween Mets & Yankees or Cubs & White Sox. its more like brothers wanting to best each other.

Nah, they do it when at indoor sports events too - I saw way too much of it when I lived in SoCal, and that was before cell phones/Blackberries - it's gotta be worse now with those distractions.
I think it's just a lot of entertainment industry people go to sporting events to see and be seen - not so much for the game itself. Now, L.A. folks - don't rush to flame me, there are a huge number of true blue sports fans down there - I just didn't see as many of them at the events themselves.

Oh yea, barb, I love it when the cards are at Wrigley and you look around and 1/4 of the stands are red. A very fun rivalry, and friendly teasing in the bars before/after. we were up last year for a weekend series, and i thought it was more than 1/4 red. it had been many, many years since i was last at wrigley, had a great time but still can't stomach old style.

Ah, see - it's funny because it's true - Angelinos can't sit through much of anything, so I thought you were being straightforward, my friend ;)
Let the sarcasm fly!! :D
if i leave out sarcasm, i'll rarely post.

Gotta love this time of year, when hope springs eternal for all baseball fans not living in Tampa Bay or Kansas City!
Gotta love those minor league beer prices too!
BTW, I was kiddin' about Albert. I think he is probably clean and as complete a player as has come up in a long time. I just can't stand to watch when Lidge is pitching to him in the 9th inning. :)
Lidge pitching to any of our team in the 9th should frighten you.

I love that the baseball talk is all women!!
As for Angelinos sitting through anything, as long as they're in their car, on their phone, doing their make-up (and that does include the men), they are happy. They don't do too well with actual human contact!

i would like to personally thank the Tiger's pitching staff, and the rain (slick outfields) . i was at all of the home playoffs, including the 3 WS games. gotta love the bleachers.
Well you should thank them, cause I'm pretty sure they won't make those particular mistakes again! Young, seasoned and now featuring Gary Sheffield, the Tigers have a legitmate shot at a repeat!

Shef is great ... as long as he doesn't get disgruntled for no apparent reason!! I don't know if even Jimmy Leyland can shut him up anymore.

I'm always amazed when La'rs tell me how unfriendly they think NY'rs are.

I need a few Roy O. clones so I never have to get to Lidge...
BTW, Festivalgirl, NOLA = Frank ;)

Yeah, that is quite the laugh riot . . . I've never found NYCers to be terribly unfriendly or Bostonians for that matter (who have the same rep).

Ny'r & Bostonian honesty is deemed unfriendly in LA. LA revolves around the Biz - not much honesty there! ;)

Yep, that's what I tell folks who haven't been to the Land of LA and want to know about it . . . that it's an industry town, pure and simple, and that industry is show biz. Which means not a lot of direct honesty and appreciation of sarcasm and irony - I was once "talked to" at a job for my "East Coast" sense of humor, which wasn't being appreciated at work - sigh.
I also tell the old joke, "Guess how people in L.A. say 'F**k you?' 'Trust me!'" . . .it's funny because it's true. :D
