Oregon Blues Legend, Harmonica Ace and Band leader Paul deLay has died in Portland. Truly one of the great contemporary blues men and one of the many great artists that never make it to Jazz Fest. If you don't know his music, check out his Evidence Records catalog, especially 'Ocean of Tears' and 'Nice and Strong.':(

OMG!!!!!!!! I saw him at the Eureka Blues by the Bay festival a couple years ago, and he's one of my favs! I ordered his CD, and I got it in the mail - it was signed! (which I hadn't even asked for)...SO SAD...

I learned of this yesterday on Blues-L. Truly sad. He had no idea that he was so ill and died almost immediately after finding out. Everyone should also pray for Bryan Lee who is in the hospital in New Orleans with pneumonia.

The Blind Giant of the Blues, damn, I hope Hospitals in New Orleans are up to the task these days. Bryan is one of the few really bluesy highlights of my trips to New Orleans. If you don't know his music, I'd suggest "Six String Therapy" and one of his several live albums, "Live and Dangerous," or either of the "Live at the Absinthe House Bar" discs, (Friday Night or Saturday Night,) all on Justin Time Records.:cool:
