Ollin Arageed? Anyone ever heard that tune?
Bay Area Grateful Dead fans at least got a taste of what the Dead's Egypt trip was like when the group played an often spectacular five-night series at Winterland that was billed as "From Egypt With Love." Slides taken by various family members on the trip were projected on a huge screen behind the stage each night. And at the last two concerts, Hamza el-Din joined the band onstage and sang the same song he'd sung at the Sound and Light Theater — a traditional wedding number called "Ollin Arageed" — and the Dead once again used the hypnotic rhythm of Hamza's tar as a launch pad for a jam. Hamza also played "Ollin Arageed" at two other concerts with the Dead later that year, including one broadcast nationally from the Capitol Theater in New Jersey.

I'm glad someone else knows who he was. I was thinking this morning that everyone would say, "Who?:
He was a great singer. Aside from his work with those groups he had some great solo stuff. Remember "A Lover's Question" and "Lover Please"? I know a fair amount about lots of types of music, but that was the stuff that really got me going as a kid. It probably is still my favorite.

I grew up in Fort Worth during the late 50's and early 60's. Pop (my dad) used to take the family to a great venue called Panther Hall. We saw Elvis and Roy play together. I was just a baby of sorts but was there...Later I saw many bands and remember most of those shows..except the Dead in 1970.. know I was there (I have the poster) but for the life of me I cannot remember :).

Can you be mugged and not hurt? I thought those went hand in hand? :)
I wondered the same thing, however, apparently, the definition of mugging does not necessarily include injury:
Mugging is a type of robbery (http://www.answers.com/topic/robbery), in which the perpetrator (the mugger) accosts the victim in a public place, such as a street or parking lot, and demands money and/or valuables.

She was born Freda Josephine McDonald and spent her childhood in the slums of St. Louis. After joining a traveling theatrical company, she accepted a dancing role in "La Revue Nègre" in Paris. Within a short time, she joined the Folies-Bergère, where she gained notoriety with her "danse sauvage" ("wild dancing") and her famous banana skirt. After becoming a French citizen in 1937, she spent her life in southwestern France with her twelve adopted children.
Josephine served France during World War II in several ways. She performed for the troops, and was an honorable correspondent for the French Resistance (undercover work included smuggling secret messages written on her music sheets) and a sub-lieutenant in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. She was later awarded the Medal of the Resistance with Rosette and named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French government for hard work and dedication.
Josephine visited the United States during the 50s and 60s with renewed vigor to fight racism. When New York's popular Stork Club refused her service, she engaged a head-on media battle with pro-segregation columnist Walter Winchell. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) named May 20 Josephine Baker Day in honor of her efforts.
On April 15, 1975, at the Madeleine Church, Josephine Baker received the grandest funeral for an American ever witnessed in Paris. She was the only American woman to receive a 21-gun salute. The hundreds of floral arrangements were later distributed throughout Paris and placed on the monuments to those who died in World War II.

Sweet! I haven't seen John Mayall perform since 2003 and it's too easy to forget what a natural performer he is. Thank you very much!
I loved the segue from the vamp in the 3rd section where Clapton launches his solo right after Mayall's harmonica part. He steps out and shows that Slowhand strut, don't he?:)

o yea.....claptons playing with mayall has alway been real strong..
biting, and stinging solos......raw.....i love erics playing on the old
John Mayall and the Bluesbreaker album....call it the Beano album
cuz claptons reading a beano comic book on the cover...clapton was
really young then, but his playing was real soulful.....
and mayall is one of the fathers of the british blues scene, that spawned
all those british bands....
