Anybody heard of, or attended, the Grass Roots Festival in Trumansburg, New York? Just looking for any commentary as I am giving it some consideration for this coming July. Thanks!

Oh, yeah! I go every year. It's about an hour from my house.

Great music, if you like roots music. Parking can be a hassle. You have to park off in the boondocks, and ride a (free) shuttle.

Trumansburg is a "burg", indeed. There is *nothing* else you'll want to do there. Shouldn't matter, though.

If you decide to come, lemme know. Maybe we can hook up.

Thanks, all. A friend of mine turned me on to Donna the Buffalo about a year ago, and I cannot get enough. Decided I need to see them in person, and this looks like a good opportunity to do that. Maybe the powers that be will see fit to add them to the Jazz Fest lineup one year...

The rest of the lineup looks interesting as well. How far is Trumansburg from Syracuse? It looks like I can get to SYR on Jet Blue for a little over $200...

NOLA, I'd guess about 40-50 minutes from SYR to T'burg. Maybe a bit longer during grassroots, 'cause of traffic.

This is an awesome festival. Donna the B -- a band I have continually called for to be recognized as one that SHOULD be invited to Jazz Fest -- helped to start this festival, which benefits arts in education and AIDs research, I believe.
Donna has turned on many, many people throughout the Northeast to Zydeco/Roots music, and they have gained in popularity throughout the country, predominately by performing at festivals. They are a special band. There is another, smaller festival called The Great Blue Heron Festival that is always held in western New York two weeks before Grassroots. Donna headlines that event as well, an incredibly cool, low-key scene. The festival takes place on a farm, and there is a dance tent where Donna usually performs as "Zydeco Experiment'' and jams, literally, to dawn.
In short, this band has earned its way to a Jazz Fest stage. Someone should get them there.

Two other bands not to miss at this festival are "The Horseflies" and Mamadou Diabate.
