Some say you should train by staying up later, supplementing more, seeing more shows, generally getting your body ready for the jazzfest. Others say rest up so you'll have plenty of energy. I used method number one last night. Drove 2 1/2 hours to north Arkansas to see Michael Franti and Spearhead. The guy can fill a room with more positive energy than it can hold. The show was sold out and the crowd was peeps ages 18-70. He closed the show with Everyone Deserves Music. Then came back out for an encore of 3 songs. This was his first trip to Arkansas and he loved the crowd. Got home at 3:30 At w*** now, loading up on caffeine.

I just sat on my porch in the sun for twenty minutes at lunch. Does that count?

Shoveling snow, delivering girl scout cookies and walking the dog in 20 degree weather. Fest will be a rest in comparison.

do you think seeing Tab Benoit, Greyboy Allstars and Dr. John before going will be training enough? can't forget the jazzfest diet so we can make room in our tummies for all of the crawfish monica.

Seriously, I find that the one thing that makes going on less sleep during Jazzfest easier for me than any other time of the year is I don't have to be that smart. It's vacation for me, so the only 2 real responsibilities I have are to bring the right tickets (visual ticket check "VTC") and to remember to bring the kids home from the fairgrounds. Otherwise I can roll around and leave the math to the bartenders who are making my change.

I used a tennis ball (assuming PF is what I think it is). I went to the podiatrist for the first time a few months ago and found out I had that, heel spurs, and two chipped bones in my left foot. And that's the good one. My only question was if I could play basketball that night.

To continue with the stamina building.....

Anybody familiar with Marcus Johnson? he is a jazz and hip hop pianist. he is playing a late show at a real small club in my home town Saturday night. We will get back from the play Cats fairly early and are thinking of going to see him. The bar is called Sweet Carolines in Winchester Va. Seats only a few hundred and the sound system rocks. When Little Feat comes to town they charge 50.00 bucks to see them and they pack in maybe three hundred but they do leave the dance floor for me and my babe.

Anyway Saturday night the cover is $5.00 and he sounds pretty good. Looks great too!!!

Anyone know this guy?

You sound like my hubbie He is still in a hard cast after a broken leg and ankle. When he was lying on the ground and the leg didn't look quite right, all he thought of was "Damn I bet I can't referee tonight"

Oh well 8 weeks into this and he still isn't reffin' but he is on the bed with March Madness

Just hope he is walking for Fest. If not? I will just park him and go!!! Just kidding but would have a tendency to do so. HeeHee

Hope you feel better Frosty You too Lis!!!! But you can just stand there and I will dance around ya!

Hugs to all

thought I'd check in with all those suffering from foot, leg & ankle problems

broke or sprained my ankle last April - heard it pop while I was moving furniture - wouldn't go to the ER that afternoon, but knew I'd made a mistake when I woke up in the middle of the night & it was swollen about 3 times the normal size - anyway, had it xrayed the next day & was told it wasn't broken(there was some debate about that later) - had a cast put on & only my toes would touch the ground - was told to put NO weight on it - should have seen me trying to use crutches - would get one of them hung under my arm and go swinging around like Lucille Ball (if any of you ever saw that episode of I Love Lucy) - my ankle is still stiff & swells if I'm on it all day - Have to make sure I'll have plenty of supplementals to make it thru JF

Hey mama, I baaadly fractured my ankle a few years back. Both bones and both dislocated, still got screws in there. It is still improving after 5 years (just the right amount of exercise & stretching, not too much, not too little).

Those first few fests after it healed were tough. Supportive sandals/ shoes a must! Also sitting when you have the chance. Plus, I found that any shoes that constricted around the ankle at all - inlcuding the much-beloved keen venice sandal - seemed to make it swell even more. At any rate I was really glad to have brought several different pairs that were broken in & comfy, so I could switch off on different days.

thanx for the advice, glinda
I know what you mean about shoes that constrict around the ankles. I tried wearing tennis shoes to give my ankle support and my ankle was swollen to all hedoublel and back.

sleep deprivation is one fierce drug. some studies show it causes as many accidents as alcohol.

i always tell people - you have to take home as many kids as you brung - don't have to be the same kids - just the same number.

i have a friend that had 8 siblings. she said they were always leaving someone over at a relatives house accidnetly. parents started making them count off in the car. easier to count them than to remember their names.

Nope, no nap. I don't teach kindergarteners anymore. I'm in the library now so I have to be ready to hand out the books.
