That damn boat leaves too soon after the fest ends. That is tough. I don't remember it being that early in past times I have gone.

man, superfly's lineup really has been slender post Katrina and I guess it's simply cause the State Palace, Orpheum, Saenger and Twiropa are no more. That and I guess they care more about Bonnaroo.
That being said that Greyboat riverboat show looks awesome but I agree it will be a tough one to catch in time.

I agree. Pretty weak lineup. Only 5 shows?

i have not been on the Cajun Queen, but my experience with boats is a fairly small room for music and then other decks to play on. can everyone fit in the music room? how long is the 'cruise'?
and the prices seem steep - i guess due the limited crowd size?
i have heard of folks missing the boat (bad pun) and then you're just out the $$.

You'll never get me back in the CAC so I think I'll be passing on this year's line up . . .

Mule is the one I'd most like to see and its at CAC. We'll have Rads at the Patry and NMAS is on Frenchman earlier . . .

I thought the boat was great. I saw Galactic there a bunch of years ago. It doesn't have a raised stage or sloped floor, so if you are short and not in front you won't see much. I was right up front, (no more than 2 feet from Ben Ellman so it was great. I could see every note they were playing. That being said, I'm not sure if I would have loved it if I were shorter or in the back.

Oh, man, some of the best nights I ever had in New Orleans were on the President at nights during fest. I remember one night it was Nevilles, Dr. John, Staple Singers and Fats?? Can that be right? Might be two shows I'm confusing together. Memories are fuzzy, but the lineups were amazing, the crawfish boil was tasty, and the boat was nice and big.
Wonder if we can find out the lineups they had on the boats back then. . . Swag?

I agree, only 5 shows? But the announcement does say more shows to be announced soon. Hopefully before tix go on sale Saturday.
The Cajun Queen is always fun, no matter who is playing!

The President shows ROCKED.....my all-time memory from the President was the one JazzFest (1988?) where I saw two FREAKIN' AMAZING shows on that boat. One was Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, with Robert Cray Band opening....SICK!!!! The other was Little Feat (who had just reformed) with Bonnie Raitt sitting in with them the whole show on slide guitar & vocals, and the Rads opened that show. Not only did both shows blow me away, but more importantly I fell in love with Bonnie Raitt that JazzFest. :D Finally got to meet her many years later on my birthday at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley CA - got the kind birthday hug!!! ;)

The boat is great, no matter where you are. Sure, unless you are up near the stage you can't really "see" the band like on a raised stage, but there is tons of room to dance in the back of that level (where the band plays) - and then you can run up to the top level and check out the river and banks as you cruise along the Mighty Mississippi - and then hop down to the bottom level for the BIG bar and tables to sit and relax. I have done the Cajun Queen many times, so I don't do it anymore, but I always had a gas at any show I saw on the CQ....usually cause I was there with lots of friends and we were just gettin' crazy all over the place...

Yeah, there was a lot of outrage about that for Vegoose, and the no show on Halloween night didn't go over well . . .

Oops, sorry I wasn't clear! They didn't schedule any shows on Halloween night and people weren't happy about that as it was a Halloween festival in Vegas. Me I had to go back to work so no particular issue for me . . . Gut there was griping on the boards!

i'm form saint louis, the president boat lived here for a while. yes it was a nice concert venue. ubt now we have just those small miss. river boats - Tom Sawyer & Becky Thatcher (not making it up). they're fine for small local bands.
so what size is the queen? what's the layout? old paddle wheel or newer like the cruise boats in Chicago?

since noone else will anwer our questions, i was forced to google.
http://www.neworleanspaddlewheels.com/about_cajunqueen.html
its much bigger than i expected. 140' x 38', several floors/levels/decks
capacity is 600 (over 500 indoors) 2 large rooms, each hold around 250.
it says service date 1987, so its only 20 years old? pix look pretty nice on the inside.

The President went to somewhere on the gulf coast and became a permanently docked gambling boat after it left St. L
But it has been retired for years now. RIP Prez!
