Anyone go to them or host them?

I've been a part of one for the last 15 years. We have a big room designed for music that sounds really nice. The musicians get a hot homecooked meal before the show. The audience is rabid and fills the place even during weeknights. We only do about 3-5 shows a year so it doesn't get stale.

We started out booking rock and electric acts but its settled into a very comfortable all acoustic venue featuring Bluegrass, Celtic and string bands. No more amps or kits, its all wires and wood.

Its taken me awhile to realize that just because musicians play big concert halls and clubs doesn't mean they won't play your living room.

We've been going to some wonderful house concerts in Freehold NJ for several years. It is hosted by a photographer who converted his garage into a studio (the shows are held in the studio) The sound is great and there is a potluck dinner afterwards. People there make the most delicous food; it is as good as the concerts themselves. Plus the musicians hang out after for the potluck and talk with the crowd. This is our favorite place to hear music right now. They have full electric bands playing there, as well as solo and acoustic.

And the hosts have been incredibly supportive of our charitable project selling J & M shirt to benefit the musicians clinic. We tend to sell 5 to 12 shirts each show, even when the artists have nothing to do with Lousiana. Music fans are just nice people!

Shannon McNally (with a full band) will be there at the end of January.

Where do you live, Metersfan? Maybe we can come to one of your concerts sometime!

Hoping you live near me :)

I have been to only a very few house concerts, but wish there were more or that I could learn of more of them here. It's a lovely, intimate setting to hear musicians.

I'm in Sonoma County but the HC series is in Palo Alto. Check out

to see a list of venues. Its fantastic that so many have popped up. Artists have told us how many more CDs they sell compared to club venues.

Very cool!

Hey Dave/Cindy, have you checked out that guy's R & B t-shirt site since it's been up & working? Thanks for the tip!

Yup, bought 2 for Dave for Christmas. The hardest part was deciding which ones.

A guy around here had one with Bon Jovi a few years ago. Of course, he's in jail for embezzlement (he spent $50,000 a month on strippers over a 20 month period) now and you can see Bon Jovi at Jazz Fest anyhow.

I've only been to a couple house concerts, and hosted one. I'd LOVE to attend/host more. I think they are a great way to hear new music as well as meet new people.

Same here. It's either forced cleaning or no cleaning for me!

you clean the house, and 12 months later you have to do it all again.

We have two parties a year - New Years and 4th of July. Two regular cleanings and getting all the "honey-do's" complete.
