So, here is something that has been on my mind. Is it true that the PDKK members are a big part of this Threadhead bored ??
I used to be poster on the old PDKK board. I noticed that after Katrina, that board died way down, but many, if not all, of those wonderful Kats moved over to this board. My impression was that some did it with the purpose of helping to keep the Jazz Fest spirits high, and to help promote JF and share their wealth of knowledge on that subject and all things New Orleans.
Is there any shred of truth to support my perception, or is it a wonderful fantasy construct?

There are plenty of PDKK members here as well as a few of the French Quarter Rats.
Several of us were PDDK'ers, Rats, Monkeys and TH's all along. My perception is that the PDKK board just sort of faded away, not necessarily as a result of Katrina.

what's that you say abe???......
and what's with all that talk of animals???...
i was introduced to that pddk joe dude from miami at wannee this year,.. and then he was introduced to some bears (talk about beasts).... he literally passed out in his chair from that which the bear bestows,.. but he came to magically (and with admirable gusto) jus' in time to dance the dance of joy to celebrate the allman brothers doin' their thing...
real nice guy that joe..... a lil' weak on the drinkin' front though...

What ever happened to the Rats? Wasn't that the "organization" that required you to read the "book" (Confederacy Of Dunces) to gain admission?
Ah, the good old (pre-K) days.
There are plenty of PDKK members here as well as a few of the French Quarter Rats.
Before there was a chat board on this website, the PDKK is where the diehards who wanted to talk fest year round ended up. Once this board started, many of the PDKK became some of its earliest denizens. As its technology improved and as web forums became more expected, most newbies naturally ended up here. Without much new blood coming into the PDKK, and with more and more of the chat occurring here, the old PDKK board faded. While there's little chat on the PDKK board today, you can still find the Krewe on Facebook, and of course, many Kats who never or rarely post here can still be found at Liuzza's, at the Fairgrounds, and at other Fests around the country.

Sadly, the Rat who administered the C of D quiz passed away a year or two ago.

to be a kat, you just have to declare yourself a kat - along with loving humanity & all things musical. sarcastic sense of humor is a bonus, but not required.

Amen, sistadeni. It was the PDKK boys Gentleman george of va and blukat of slidell and nawlins, who convinced me to come to my first fest in 98 through our chatting on the old purple bored. I decided I'd either be raped and murdered or have the time of my life. Been having the time of my life ever since. The two who started pdkk, stevemiami and joeponydancer, don't do jazzfest every year any more but they are still alive and well and dancing to the music. :D

Ah, the good old (pre-K) days.
The French Quarter Rats originated in the late 80's/early 90's on the old Prodigy 'southeast travel' boards. Vernon was our 'Head Rat'. You had to read "The Book" and answer one question in order to qualify for membership.
Katrina happened and then Vernon died, the Rats seemed to fade into nothingness; the original rats, Pixie, Harold, Vicki, MaryAnn, Terry, Susan, Betsy, Dawn, Mike (along with others) and I never seemed to get it together after K, though we'll always be Rats deep down inside!
There is a Facebook page created by Mike, but I don't recognize most of the names.

Hey, Hey
we have not faded into nothingness
we are just semi-retired PDKK ers.....
The otherone and I moved to the litter box after they shut down the
old Offbeat message bored...
Now that was some lively reading/posting there- but it got so bizarre they flipped the off switch before someone took legal action...
I remember when someone posted that Earl King had died, when in fact he had not...

i have a tank and 2 tees (men's versions) and they are pretty much the same as the day i bought them. and yes, i has washed them numerous times. cold wash. hot dry.
although, i do have a 1990 jazzfest shirt that shrunk so much i dont think i'll ever get in it again.
and whats really weird, is it shrunk while on the shelf. :o

Some of my PDKK shirts are getting threadbare (like my 1986 How Ya Jazz Fest shirt) and I've got to limit wearing them to once or twice a year. I'm proudest of the one with Mike Williamson's art that includes the Headless Hornman totem in the background.

My favorite is a button down baseball shirt from 2001 that Joe was nice enough to let me have - usually wear it to one Fest day each year. This is the image on the back.

I know someone that saw the add in the back of the rolling stone for quilts made out of old t-shirts, he sent them a bunch of his concert shirts and he claims they did a really good job, he sent them more and now has two quilts, don't know if this was the site or not, but a great concept, he said his shirts were pretty well worn

My fav image as well. I wear a PDDK shirt at least once or twice at every Fest (and fest)

The local community radio station has had volunteers make quilts out of old station t-shirts. They include them as raffle prizes at their big concert events. I've been lucky enough to win two, a small one a couple of years ago and this one last September at the WMNF Birthday Bash. I don't have a wall big enough to display the whole thing, so you're only seeing half of it draped over the curtain rod. I'm going to get the ends stitched together so it will be in a loop and can be rotated to display different shirts (there's a total of 20). Each square is bordered with a different music-themed fabric.

This one is my favorite, too. But, it is just about ready for the rag bag. I only wear it at the gym now. Sigh. My first was the one with the kat playing the saxophone - I think it was a reference to Bill Clinton?
The funny thing about the PDKK shirts is that when I wear them, people DON'T ask me about them. I can see them looking at the shirt and trying to figure it out.

Hey Ross:
Our PDKK Delphi board was being adminstered by Drea, an original SoFLa Kat. She is now the proud momma of two little kittens of her own with Stan, a memeber of the Monkey Krewe.
So the board has kind of died down. I check over every once in a while, but not much up. Lots of us are now here and some over on Facebook like Big Dave and Da ve and Joe P. and Marisol and me and Tybee and Apple, and CajunNy and many mo' like you
I'm still in the Pet de Kat Krewe - they all just abandoned me.
