i'm senile & i drink a bit - but i seem to recall still seeing them being sold somewhere - which would most likely have been fest??
Let's do some searching. The folks who made them used to be at this link, but it seems dead now.
http://www.folkart.com/~latitude/flags/jazz.htm
But archive.org shows it was working back in '03, $39 + shipping but sold out.

But I recall someone here contacting them a few years ago, and they had agreed to print up some more, given a small minimum order, 4 or 5, I think? That page has a phone number, maybe give it a try?

If anyone finds one and needs to order in bulk, i'd be in - i've been trying to find one of those flags for years.... i've never seen them on sale at the Fest - always thought you had to "know" someone....

I know I saw the black ones on sale at fest but I don't remember seeing the gold ones.

The gold flags were originally sold at the Fest. I'm not sure why they started selling that crappy black one they have now (and with a logo that I've never seen used any where else). Bring back the gold!!!:D

I would LOVE to find a gold flag, especially since I just bought a flagpole for my scooter. ;) I could fly it just under my Threadhead flag. :)

I have a call in to the number on the site that Swag recalled. I got an answering machine and the name of the place is the Folk Art and Craft Exchange. It appears to be located in the city of Sunnyvale, CA. (ironically where I hung my hat when I was out for Gumbo Jr's surgery) Any Bay Area THs know about this place? I will keep everyone aBOOB, sorry I meant abreast..damn torrets...when I get a return call.

The problem with flags anymore, is that you're not allowed to hammer anything into the ground. So, unless you can tie it to a chair, (and have someone sit in it all day) or can figure out another way of fixing it in place, you'll have to hold it. That gets to be a pain after awhile. As for the pole, I've used long, collapsable fishing pole. Mine is a crappie rod that originally was 20 ft. I took the top 4 ft. off because it was too flimsy. However, since 9/11, they'll probably give you a hard time if you try to bring that, or a bunch of PVC pipe on board. I guess you could hit a hardware store when you get to town and get something and then discard it after the Fest.

I'd be down for buying a Fest Flag too, if there's a minimum order . . . (then I can REALLY fly my Freak Fest Flag high) ;)

Count me in for a flag too.
Just FYI = I e-mailed the people who run the JazzFest store - up here on the right hand side of the board (two over from the forum link) and they told me it is up to the Fest people to decide what gets sold......
So - I think I'm off to try and contact an old friend who is on the NOJHF board of directors and see if I can't get our little message heard. Who knows?

The ban would include corkscrews as the problem is damanging irrigation pipes.
The ban would include corkscrews as the problem is damanging irrigation pipes.
The problem is also possibly hitting an electrical wire buried just beneath the surface. That could prove to be a shocking experience - and the fest folks are pretty serious about not having any electrocutions on the grounds during the fest - it would seriously damage the whole vibe...
There are collapsable flag poles for sale - I got mine at a kite/flag store on Jackson Square in the Quarter - I think mine extends to about 16 feet, which is generally enough. I either lash it to a chair and then lash two chairs together, or if I'm at the big stage at the Gentilly end, I try to get close to the sound booth fence and lash it there (with bungees). It's worked well over the years....

....pvc for the plane? what do they allow?
I have successfully flown with a telescoping pole in one of the plastic tubes for packing a fishing rod (bought it in sporting goods section of Kmart or WalMart). I checked it as baggage for 2 or 3 trips to NOLA. Then after the ground puncture ban I made a tripod out of PVC pipe, bungee cord, and rope. I bound the whole mess up with packing tape and put a name tag on it and checked it with no problem (Southwest Airlines). They warned me at check-in that they would not be liable for loss or damage, but it came through fine both ways. The tripod, however, was not the best for the Fairgrounds. Now I get to Fest early and tape the Headless Hornman to a fence pole or similar.
