Last Father's Day, my daughter gave me a copy of "Song For My Fathers: A New Orleans Story In Black And White" by Tom Sancton. Bless her heart.

What a great book! It's a memoir of a young white boy who loved music and the Quarter, especially Preservation Hall, and who was nurtured by the PH regulars of his time. It's loaded with great pictures, and with great anecdotes of NOLA in the 50's and 60's, including a wonderful picture of George Lewis ("Burgundy Street Blues").

I think that "Song For My Father" should be required reading for anyone interested in New Orleans.

Have any of you read it? Do you concur?
