Your new avatar reminds me of our kitty, Calliope when she was a baby;

CUTE kittie, beautiful name. Had to remind myself how to pronounce it, at first I wanted to say cuh-lie-oh-pee. WRONG! Clearly its been way too long since I've been in New Orleans!!!

You know what I learned the other day? The same chromosome creates calico, tortioseshell and orange kitties. Calicos & tortioseshells are 99.99% female (creates sterility in males), so only 1/3 or orange kitties with the chromosome are female. Virtually all male kitites with the chromosome are orange, so orange kitties are 3 to 1 male (75% of orange kitties are boyz). I love orange kitties :) Well, I love all kitties!

What a great thread, Jenn!!! Thanks for sharing the photos of your beautiful (and bountiful) Calliope!! (Now do you pronounce her name the NOLA way or the classical way??)
I had with Mark (who got custody of her) a kitty we called "Little" - which then became a very ironic name - as she is anything but now:

Here's my cat, Sam (who's curled next to me right now on my daybed - her sleeping face tucked inside her front paw) with some ornaments I got in New Orleans at Santas Quarters last December on her:

Is Little a tortie too Kitty?
Our tortie is not small either (we call her fat b*tch, cattitude!) ;) YOu can't really tell in this pix but she's round!

Oh, I love your tortie, Amy!! Yes, Miss Little is a dark tortie also and very, very round!! Maybe THAT's something in their genetic makeup . . . ;)

Well, funny you should mention that . . . it's why I took the photo!!! I wanted to see what kind of stuff she'd tolerate us putting on her. She also put up with coasters too (although she's clearly less happy here):

What lovely kitties, Bry!!! Sorry about your Lucy - unfortunately, I don't have any photos of my dear departed kitties from back in the day. :(
How nice that you have some to remember her by!

I love how your kitties snuggle Bry!
They look quite sleek as does Annie.
Hmm, I wonder if there is something about torties and calicos and being round . . . My cousin had a calico growing up who was also quite round.

I used to have pix of several passed kitties, but they were ruined in a basement flood some years ago.

They snuggle with Patti in bed at night, which shows how smart they are...I would undoubtedly knock them off the bed if they snuggled with me! not on purpose of course...

And it looks like Katie groomed herself, unlike Sam - who's decided she wants to be a reggae cat and develop dreadlocks in her fur - sheesh! :)

What pretty kitties! We have six of them right now, ranging in ages 5 - 13 years. Their names are Whiskers, Tinkerbell, Dexter (what else do you call a 7-toed cat?), Sagwa, Kiko, & Mittens.
Mittens is a black short-haired Tortie who also has a tremendous weight problem. She has been on a diet for almost 2 years. I think Torties are not equipped with a "full" indicator light! Mittens has been slowly losing weight and is getting to a more normal feline appearance. In her "before" picture, she looked like a bowling ball with eyes!
I got to meet the Ohio's kitties on NYE. And they are purr-ecious!
Zydekitten, is your kitty a Maine Coon cat? There were two in my lfe at one point, and I still miss them. They were so comical and affectionate.
