The collectors on this site are pretty knowledgeable so I'll ask a question...

I'll be downloading a bunch of public domain Louis Armstrong (http://tinyurl.com/y8ou3nj) and have two choices in format, mp3 or ogg. The mp3's are a bigger file size but my understanding is that ogg is a lossless format. Considering these will go directly on to the iPod which is the better format?

Thanks

Toney

actually, both mp3 and (ogg) vorbis are lossy compression schemes. at high enough bit rates (128K+), the difference in audio quality is likely minimal to inaudible, especially for folks like me who have stood too close to a speaker stack or two over the years :)

i'd probably choose the mp3's, especially if they are VBR, if only because I know I can play them on all of my devices without re-encoding.
