We were discussing how much we'd have to sell (art work, vehicles, first-born, whatever) to afford a road trip for this.

Chrissa....save me a space on your couch for mid-May until you hear otherwise!

In almost any generation. We saw Carole King a couple of years ago .... amazing. I'd be shocked if there wasn't a NYC show.

CAROLE KING & JAMES TAYLOR

2010 'TROUBADOUR REUNION' WORLD TOUR

TOUR KICKS OFF IN AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND JAPAN

HOLLYWOOD BOWL, MAY 14 CONCERT ANNOUNCED

NORTH AMERICAN & EUROPEAN DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

presale: purchase "BEST SEATS" tickets at our new Store. click here

Press release:
Nov. 10, 2009 - Iconic musicians Carole King and James Taylor announced today that they will embark on a "Troubadour Reunion" world tour. The world tour will kick off in Melbourne, Australia on March 27 and will travel to New Zealand and Japan before coming to North America and Europe. This once-in-a-lifetime event brings together two of the most beloved singer/songwriters for a rare concert experience. The set list will include a breadth of material including songs they performed during their 1970 debut show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, which helped propel them both to the world stage. Tickets for dates in Australia and New Zealand and The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles go on public sale Nov. 23. Tickets for dates in Japan go on sale Dec. 12. Additional dates in North America and Europe will be announced soon.

"When James and I first played together in the early seventies we connected almost immediately, both musically and personally, with an effortless, comfortable familiarity. After we reunited in 2007 with Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel and Lee Sklar, the original band from our early Troubadour shows, none of us wanted the fun to stop. We can't wait to bring our Troubadour Reunion tour to Australia."

The idea for the "Troubadour Reunion" tour came together in 2007 after Taylor and King performed at the famed Los Angeles venue for the first time since 1970 to celebrate the Troubadour's 50th Anniversary. The shows sold out immediately and garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The Los Angeles Times noted "the sense of occasion [and] weight of history in the evening" and Variety said "Taylor and King reminded us about the intensity of song, that the artistically-rich and commercially-viable are not mutually exclusive and how one tiny club continues to be a birthing room for some of this city's most memorable music."

Now fans outside of Los Angeles will be able to experience what was created on that magical evening in 2007. Nearly four decades after helping define the singer-songwriter movement, King and Taylor will tour together with their original bandmates guitarist Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar, famous in their own right as "The Section".

"This tour, our 'Troubadour Reunion' has been waiting to happen for a long time but the years seem to have vanished. Where does the time go? When we reunited for the Troubadour's 50th Anniversary celebration in 2007, it was, and still is, all about the music and the celebration of performing together."

Carole King performed with James Taylor at the Troubadour in November 1970. This historic show marked King's debut as a solo artist after penning 22 Top 40 hits for artists ranging from Aretha Franklin to the Monkees, while James was supporting his self-titled Apple Records release featuring classics such as "Carolina In My Mind" and "Something In The Way She Moves." Both have since become multi-platinum-selling artists, GRAMMY® winners, and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Hmmmm... there seems to be a hole in the schedule late April/early May.

Seems like a really good fit. I'd say it's very likely, except that JT played Fest this year, and they never book out-of-town BNA's twice in a row.

Question is, is JT+CK different enough from JT alone to discount that?

I saw this too!
We are SO there; I love the Hollywood Bowl!
The last time we saw James Taylor there, the minute he started to play, I got so emotional that I started to cry; Bruce looked at me like I was nuts, until he saw the woman on the other side of him was weepy too.....

Since they are at the Bowl here, I would guess Bill Silva is the US promoter (I expect to get an email about ticket sales for those of us on a budget). Don't know what his presence is in Australia or if that helps you at all in your quest.

Chrissa, that is going to be such an amazing concert!!!

I was just listining to Carole King yesterday, and was again reminded how soulful her music is. What an incredible talent.

Of course James Taylor has long been a favorite of mine, and I am always lifted up and inspired by his music; seeing him and CK back together again is something that would certainly worth flying down for...........

Still not a done deal. The Pre Sale was for the boxes .... just a bit out of our price range . I'll let you know when the real people tickets go on sale ... you are always welcome here!

Tapestry is one of my Top 10 (maybe even Top 5) albums of all times! I think she is the #1 female singer/songwriter of all times.

And you are right on about "Tapestry". It is one of the greatest albums of all time, and has aged like a fine bottle of vino, sounding even better to me now than when I first heard it some 20 odd years ago...............

Is that the one named for Rod Laver?

Yes indeed.
Centre court is called Rod Laver Arena these days, and the rest of the year the year it is a half decent large indoor venue.About 12,000 people in end stage mode or 15,000 in the round.
The whole place was originaly all called Flinders Park/AKA National Tennis Centre, and then our idiot premier of the time, changed the name to Melbourne Park, for some reason. Centre court being named after Rod Laver is fine, although the second biggest court has a stupid sponsors name, which has changed from a mobile phone company to computer company, which was a bit controversial as most tennis fans thought it should have been named after Margaret Court the most succesful female Tennis player of all time in terms of Grand Slam titles singles, doubles etc,but she only got the 3rd biggest one named after her, which I used to call Margarets Court in meetings and be told to shut up.
So now you know, rivetting stuff I am sure.;)
I can also tell you who the Green Room is named after,if you realy want to know.

I love that - Margaret's Court is perfect!! The only other Aussue tennis player I can think of on the fly is Yvonne Goolagong ... I used to love to watch her.

I loved Yvonne Goolagong. Margaret, not so much... great player to be sure but man she likes to bag other players. Esp. now that she's past it. At least she stayed out of politics.... unlike her brothers.

Now Rod Laver.... they should have renamed the whole State after him!

Green Room story is not very exciting.
It is named after a local John Farnham a MOR act who is a good singer and good guy,and has kept some good friends of mine in work for 20 years.
He held the record for most gigs in one tour at Flinders Park, until this year when Pink sold amazing amounts of tickets in Melbourne and every where else in Australia, from memory 23 shows at Rod laver or something out there.
I dont even know what she sings, but she sold a lot of Merch and to be fair donated a shitload of money to the Bush Fire Appeal

What can you say.
I believe that his correct title is Sir Cliff these days.
Envisaging him performing at an outdoor Winery, brings too many silly thoughts to my tired brain, and I must hit the sack, but if he sings poorly,he had better be aware of .
The Grapes of Wrath.

I saw that they added some dates, there have been hopeful rumours that they will play at Byron because that festival goes from April 1 until April 5.
I also heard on Off The Record this morning that both artists are trying as much as possible to have their bands from back in their prime days with them.

Great news about the bands!!

Byron is in Northern New South Wales only about 30 minutes or so from the Queensland border. Its beatiful spot where the rolling hills and forests join up withthe ocean. They have been lucky over the years by having a sensible local council, who have kept development low key etc and have attempted to keep the shops local,no Mcdonalds etc,but I noticed this year that some chain stores like KFC are starting to sneak in which is sad.It is about 2 hours drive from Brisbane and the nearest mass of suburbia is up near the border and on the Queensland side with a long stretch of coast that they call the Gold Coast, some parts of which remind you of Miami with high rises and man made canals etc which is not my go.

Hey Fred Carole King was incredible at the Fairgrounds and in a bizzare turn of events had Slash from Guns and Roses come on stage and perform with her.If I recall correctly Boz Skaggs also performrmed that year and played an amazing version of "Somebody Loan Me a Dime".

I guess that's pretty cool - although that and $8.00 will get me over the George Washington Bridge and it does nothing to help my woeful trivia scores.

How are ya Paul?!?

For approx. $800 plus fees you can get up close.......

Carole King and James Taylor are offering fans the opportunity-of-a-lifetime, to see two musical icons up-close-and-personal with ‘intimate and in the round’ Stage Seats on their Troubadour Reunion Tour. The Stage Seats were designed as tables for two surrounding the center stage performance. The innovative design recreates the intimacy of a vintage nightclub within the high-energy atmosphere of a modern arena performance–paying tribute to Carole King and James Taylor’s legendary 1970 performances at L.A.’s famed Troubadour club.

All Stage Seat Packages benefit established charities—including the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Alliance for the Wild Rockies, which Ms. King and Mr. Taylor have long championed—plus more than 90 additional national and local charitable organizations. The Stage Seat Packages are estimated to raise over $1 million for charity and are available for 37 of the Troubadour Reunion North American concerts.

Stage Seat Packages are available exclusively at www.ticketsforcharity.com.

Stage Seat Packages include:

- One Stage Seat (arranged in tables for two)
- Special access to Carole King and James Taylor’s sound check session
- Pre-performance private reception with complimentary wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres

Don't even know where to start ........ can't imagine a better show ever.

They were on the stage together the whole time. They joked about needing 6 hours to do the set they really wanted to do ... we were willing to stick it out. Can't think of the song I wanted to hear that they didn't do.

Carole King is the greatest woman song writer on the face of the earth ... no one can even think about being in the same room. Natural Woman (Aretha WHO???) .... wanna hear the song the only way ever - go to the source! She is probably the most under rated, under valued American song writer of her generation. And she still fucking rocks. The last two generations of women have a lot to learn and a long, long way to go. Carole King is a living legend.

James Taylor rose to the occasion ... playing with CK made him even better than ever if that is possible.

After seeing a show like this, I realize how much is lacking in current music.

I hate douchebag reviews like this. The one line that really bugged me was: "Despite the warm reception by a capacity crowd content to stoke the fires of nostalgia, Thursday’s show offered depressingly little of value to anyone not predetermined to relive good times gone by."

Gee, moron. Why do you think people forked out all that money to see what was widely billed as a REUNION of a show that took place 40 years ago? Was it to hear either of these artists playing their new material? For that matter, why do you think ANYONE forks out cash to see acts such as the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Stones and others? It's the same old tired song: some young prick with no affinity or attachment to the artist is sent out to review their show. Yeah, we get it: they're not nearly as important as Metric or The White Stripes. GRRRRRRR.

Nice set list. The "Blossom" opener alone would have made it worth it for me. I'll be trying to get to one of these performances for sure. Two of my all-time favorites.

AMEN! The show was amazing! When they sang, "You Can Close Your Eyes" as a duet, it was magical!

The review in the LA Times, totally pissed me off. Instead of sending a kid (Really? Mikael?), they should have sent his PARENTS!

I have been madly in love with James Taylor since I was 13, but now I totally have a girl-crush on Carole King! She was the perfect, high energy counterpoint to James Taylor's cool, dry wit.

Chrissa, sorry we didn't manage to meet up. Waited by the tree until 7:05, but with the zillions of people, we must have missed each other....

The L.A. Times is a piece of crap .... it is a typical Tribune rag. [nothing personal Baconwrapped]

I don't know, a 68 year old woman rocking her ass off while 18,000 people sing and dance is far from a schmaltzy wedding. So many people brought their kids - teenagers - so they could see two legends. Didn't see one bored kid in our area.

Do not miss this!!!

Thank You For Helping To Raise Over $1.3M For Charity!
Carole and James would like to say, "Thank you!"

You have helped the "Troubadour Reunion" tour raise $1.3 million to benefit local and national charities through the purchase of Tickets-For-Charity Stage Seats!

"We're thrilled to be raising awareness about two important environmental groups (Natural Resources Defense Council and Alliance For The Wild Rockies) that we've supported for years," says Carole King. " But an essential part of this process with Tickets-For-Charity has been offering fans the opportunity to support causes that they're passionate about and organizations having a real impact on their local community."
