Got hip to Jackie when I evacuated Katrina and lived in Auburn, CA on my sister's property for a couple of years. Jackie was the biggest thing in Sacramento at the time and I saw him at a benefit for a doggie park in Folsom. Then he became part of Phil and Friends and did a good job with that. He is a very talented young man!

Oh! My husband went on a HUGE Jackie Greene kick a few years ago and bought everything he could get his hands on - which included a couple live dvds. I was surprised how much there was out there from him.

I'm excited to share the link - he's actually from Pittsburgh so I'm sure he'll enjoy it! I can't beleive he hasn't gotten on board over here yet! Crazy!

Thanks for sharing!

Go see the "Skinny Singers" with Tim Bluhm from the Mother Hips, another California band, if they tour again. Great stuff! Living in Sacramento, I've seen Jackie grow into a very mature artist but the 2008 Mardi Gras show he did with Phil & Friends really knocked me out - check out his guitar work on Shakedown opposite Larry Campbell... inspired!

Jackie just participated in a 4-day Jamaica party with The Radiators, who smoked on Friday night at Tip's celebrating their 32nd anniversary. I ran into their roadie at Snake and Jake's afterwards and he said there were some reservations having Jackie included from those not familiar with him. The roadie knew what he was capable of and his stint with Phil Lesh and knew it would not be a problem. He did excellently sitting in with the Rads.

Here's a couple of cool vids from an afternoon jam session with Reggie and Frank, the first a nice version of "Mama Tried" and second a jam that goes into "Cissy Strut". Jackie is a very talented young man, indeed. Big fan here.

Glad to hear you were able to hit Tipitinas for the Radiators anniversary shows---One of the music world's finest "unknown" bands, still going strong after 32 years!!!

The Radiators just get incrementally better every time I see them. And they will inevitably play something you have never heard them do before. Friday included a couple of great new songs. Dave Malone's daughter Darcy came out for a cool version of "Dancin' In The Street"..."Don't forget the Crescent City!". Dave's son John's band opened and Darcy's opened on Saturday, keepin' it in the family.

I was lucky enough to be there and the Rad's clearly enjoyed having him play. He REALLY shined when he did his two solo gigs, one in the afternoon on the beach and the other late night in the resorts piano bar. There were a lot of video clips posted on the Radiators chat board of him with the band. He was at the resort when we got there, he had played with Gov't Mule who was there the days before the Rad's and I understand he was staying on as we left and Ratdog arrived. I've got him on my radar and am looking to see him solo again in NY. Was looking to see if he might be doing any night shows during JF, that would be excellent.

Jackie cut his teeth doing acoustic solo shows in Sacramento, where he first made a name for himself. He is EXCELLENT in that format, the Dylan comparison not-withstanding. His largely acoustic "Sweet Somewhere Bound" CD is my personal favorite.

I was living in Sacramento when Jackie emerged & heard him numerous times. Even while still very young, the kid's got incredible talent on guitar, keys, harp & vocals. But maybe his finest skill is songwriting, he crafts some really fine lyrics & songs. Happily Phil recognized extraordinary talent & welcomed him within the Dead. EVERYBODY loves playin' w/ him. I see him as a huge icon in 20 yrs.

Thanx Deb, always delighted to turn a TH on to unknown awesome music. Now I gotta scope out these vids, appreciate 'em being posted. JACKIE ROCKS!!!
