A great show of Nawlins music. A terrific set by Rebirth opened the show. There is nothing like the Rebirth! Tuba Phil looks quite well and the band sounded great.

After that, Dr. John's band came out and played a classic set of music, including:

Tipitina
Hey Pocky Way (with George Porter)
Let the Good Times Roll (with GP and Dr. John on Guitar)
Right Place, Wrong Time
Oop Oop Pa Doo (with Jessie Hill's grandson)
When the Saints Go Marching In
St. James Infirmary (with Troy Andrews - the funkiest version EVER!)
It's Raining (with Irma)
You Can Have My Husband... (with Irma)
Big Chief

and another half dozen tunes I can't recall this moment. Dr. John looks to be in much better health, very energetic and even danced a bit onstage. No smoking, no problems taking pictures, no metal detectors. If I didn't know better, I would think it wasn't HOB. I know they are a real kiljoy at times, but some of the best shows are there. Dr. John is playing a night or two in late December there, if anyone is planning on coming for Christmas.

Hey, Wynn...I was going to text u last night figuring you might be there. I got a ticket late yesterday afternoon from a friend.
I agree that version of St. James was crazy good. During the meet and greet with the good Dr., I mentioned our ties to the NOMC and he said the threadheads were doing great things for New Orleans music.

You spoke with the good Dr., Gumbo? Were there interpreters involved? I would love to hear that conversation, but I can't seem to find my Mac-to-Gumbo or Gumbo-to-Mac dictionaries...
