Sharon and I got a chance to talk to John briefly after his great d.b.a. set on Saturday.
He apparently had just been told that "The Treme Song" will be used as the theme for the new "Treme" series on HBO, and he was walking on air.
Now, this is John we're talking about so this probably requires independent corroboration!
If anyone has more info I hope they post it.

I know they've been talking with him about this for a few months, but I wasn't sure if anything had been "inked."
I'm looking forward to this series. If it's anywhere near as good as "The Wire" was it will be top-notch.

the deal has not, in fact, been inked. But all signs are pointing to a good result.

it's a perfect song for the series, really those people "who don't yet get it" might just....
David Simon takes his music seriously. For The Wire, he used Way Down in the Hole as the theme song (and it ran for something like two minutes, way longer than a typical tv opening theme). And he had a different version of the song for each season, including takes by the Blind Boys of Amabama, Steve Earle, and the Neville Brothers.
This sort of thing could give John Boutte exposure to a lot of new fans.

By the way, HBO wants to use the version of the song from John's "Jambalaya" album, not from "Good Neighbor."

We'll take it! Either way it's GREAT exposure for one of our boys!

CRAP, it's all good, but I would love for Boutte and THR to be blessed.... people need to know how GREAT Threadhead Records and the artists supported by THR are.

I'm so happy for John. Hope David Simon and his team reconsider the Good Neighbor version. It would make a great project even better!
After hearing Paul tell the story behind "Door Poppin'," I'm hoping that they use that during one of the episodes. Hell, I think John and his family could provide the inspiration for several characters and endless episodes worth of material.

It's all about money. The Jambalaya version is probably cheaper for HBO. It's a non-RIAA release I believe. Business is business.

Wow! Very exciting possibility for John.
It does bring up an interesting question though, and that is where would the royalties go if they used the one from Good Neighbor? Straight to John or a split with THR or something else altogether? Hopefully, this is only the first of many opportunities for the THR artists.

for past projects (including Good Neighbor) we had no arrangement for situations like this. If you look at our new "How it Works" page on the THR website, for projects going forward we will be getting a piece of the pie. See number 8 on http://www.threadheadrecords.com/howitworks.htm
