The tickets are on sale now for VIP Instruments A Comin' cost is $150. The event raises money to purchase musical instruments for public high school band programs. I feel a very worthwhile fundraiser for the kids of New Orleans and surrounding areas. I was looking forward to this ticket and wanted to let everyone know that the tickets are now available.

Thanks for the info!
I was looking at the Tip's website, but there was no memntion of VIP tickets. What sets these apart from the normal $30 tickets?

Wow, that's a big increase for the VIP tickets. I think they were $110 last year...but it IS a good cause. Still....

It's a FANTASTIC benefit held at Tipitina's every year........
http://www.tipitinas.com/show.asp?id=200704300
Tipitina's Foundation Hands Over $500,000 Of New Instruments To New Orleans Schools For Katrina Anniversary
On the 5th Anniversary of its Instruments A-Comin' Benefit Concert, presented this year by Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits, the Tipitina's Foundation raised money to purchase $500,000 of new instruments for 11 New Orleans school music programs. On Tuesday, August 29th, the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the foundation hosted a presentation ceremony at Tipitina's Uptown during which it handed over the instruments.
The annual concert has raised a total of $300,000 worth of new instruments in previous years, but in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the outpouring of support from attendees and sponsors elevated the event's achievements to a new level. The foundation is committed to putting an instrument into the hands of every New Orleans student, and this year's "IAC" recipients include every school that will have a functioning music program in place when they open in the fall. "This year's event was a huge success-musically, financially, and spiritually," says Adam Shipley, IAC founder and music director for the Tipitina's Foundation. "It proves we are here for the long haul."
After the hurricane, the Tipitina's Foundation immediately created a new Artist Relief initiative which met the changing needs of New Orleans musicians through aid with housing, instrument and gear replacement, as well as re-opening its Music Co-op Office. Then the foundation directed its efforts to helping the younger generation of New Orleans artists to insure that the city's musical traditions stayed alive. It began hosting Master Classes and offering music lessons at Tipitina's Uptown, and then put together an all-star lineup for IAC, which included Galactic, The Voice of the Wetlands Band (with George Porter Jr., Tab Benoit, Anders Osborne, and Johnny Vidacovich), and Donald Harrison with the Tipitina's Interns (and special guests Leo Nocentelli and Ivan Neville). "It was a night of pure magic," says Bill Taylor, Executive Director of the Tipitina's Foundation. "It was proof that New Orleans music is coming back stronger than ever." As the people of New Orleans fight diligently to rebuild their wonderful city, the Tipitina's Foundation is doing its part save the city's music culture.
Usually getting my money's worth from food and an open bar is no problem for me, but $120 difference might be a challenge.

nah, i've seen you eat. ;-)
remember that part of the ticket price may be deductible from your gross income when you file your taxes.
and usually includes private balcony access.
a good value for those who can fit it into their budgets, but probably not worth it if it requires giving up several other shows.

IAC vs. Piano Night. VIP vs. bleachers. Feeling a fit of FOMS, as well as charity guilt, coming on. Decided on IAC with the commoners. The last thing I need is an open bar and buffet.

Although my husband Joe is my primary charity (I'm his "patron"), I try to give elsewhere to at least one chartity a year if I can. I figured tix to IAC go to a great cause, plus I get all the goodies too. So that's going to be my charitable donation for the year.

Did VIP on a whim at the last minute last year...what a blast!
The food was OK, mostly looked like if you got there later it was slim pickins...but that's alright, not going for the food.
Didn't know my ticket would have been deductible...damn, already got my taxes back...oh well..maybe this year...
The balcony is cool if you don't like the mass of humanity and want more dancing room, but it isn't where all the action is I noticed...so I don't know, VIP or not???

I definitely got a VIP ticket for this one, my birthday gift also. The line-up of music, food and the cause looks to good to miss it this year. I have been looking forward to this one. I missed it last year, I was at piano night. If you go VIP or regular ticket, it's cool, we'll all be in the house.

- you can easily amend your taxes for forgetten donations. BUT only part of the ticket would be deductible - if at all. you would have to ask the foundation what they deem the ticket to be truly worth - the rest is donation. so they would add together the value of everything you receive for your VIP. if they can't give you a value, figure it yourself, but keep inside of IRS guidelines.

True dat, MyMecca!!! I'd love to be able to spend the ducats on a VIP ticket - but I expect to be buying a Brass Pass and that's my big splurge for the fest.
It will be great just to have us all there and we could even have a mini-meetup outside at some point in the evening . . .

Front row Ellen (Mymecca) and those with her don't need any special VIP viewing section! I'm quite certain we'll try to join ya at some point too :)
This VIP, in addition to being for a good cause, actually looks like you get something for your money. Unlike the stupid Harmony Fest New Orleans Social Club VIP where the "special viewing" was at the side of the stage, you got ONE drink ticket and some crappy appetizers for, what was it, $100 more? I'm still sore about that!

Amy, my email is donna dot pahl at telus dot com. I will be picking up signed items from my producer friend on Tuesday, I am very impressed at what he got, although I won't be able to confirm everything until I see it myself. There was one whopping oppportunity last Tuesday that I am hoping we got. Jen and I have been in touch and I'll be shipping everything to her this week.
What's your take on late submissions? 99.9% possibility of signed CDs from John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark and Joe Ely on March 17.

It is definitely going to be a gathering of THs, up and down. And the food is next door so it's not like once you're upstairs, you're not ever coming down. I was thinking about the vip ticket and my very cool friend gifted me one. :) All about the kids and their instruments, babeeee!
I'm picking up my tickets over St. Paddy's weekend. I'm going with non-VIP tix though. IAC is a high-light of Fest daze tween for sho! :)

I'm wit chu, chica on that - front bar on the right is GREAT viewage! I also like over on the far left, against the wall up at the front (which I where I was much of last year's IAC - you can also see the musicians hanging out backstage there by their entrance.

I'm rather short so I try to find the good site lines right away. Not very crowded at 6, bands are playing outside at that time.

Exactly, Miss Jada!!! I'm not overly tall or small (5'5" and 1/2 or 5'6" on a good day) - but I find as a chica who's not all that tall, I need to be smarter and earlier to get those good viewing spots!

Lis, like Jada said, you won't have any problem at 6 as most of the action is still outside at that point (local HS bands and maybe a brass band on a stage on the sidewalk, as I recall). Plus, the crowd empties out between sets for fresh air, which is a chance to move up to a good viewing spot and wait for the next act if that suits you. I don't think it got really crowded inside until 9 or 10 last year. But I don't mind being back a bit as I can see over most of the peeps (as long as shaw and ken are not standing in front of me). :)
I've got 5 tix to buy - would it be rude to get myself a VIP and go cheap on the other 4?
