Just thinking about this as a potential project for next year (after Jazzfest)...if we were to do a compilation CD, what (in your opinion) would be the 2-3 tracks off of each album that you would want to see represented on such a CD? Keep in mind that right now we have nine CD's completed to date (including Holiday and Paul's new CD). By the time we get to the Compilation CD, we will probably have released a few more albums. Also, we would have to both solicit the opinions of all the musicians, and get their approval, of course.

So.....let's hear your opinions....I'll start with my favorites from "Good Neighbor."

1. Good Neighbor
2. Broke Down The Door/The Treme Song
3. Foot of Canal Street

My favorite all time TH artist song.
"Meet me on Frenchmen Street"

Great song....but that wasn't a THR project.

From How to be a Cannonball:

"You've Got to be Crazy to Live in this Town"
"Where K-Doe Lives"

Alex's album (for me) might be the toughest to select 2-3 songs...I would add "The Woman I Love" and "The Last Train"

It's actually not one of my favorites, musically, but I don't see how you could do the first annual threadhead records compilation and not include "be a threadhead".

Totally agree. I love those too, and pretty much everything on the album (I also had a hard time excluding "Everything Wants to Go"). But in choosing only two for the compilation, I was thinking of the songs that, imo, are the most "accessible" and most likely to grab instantly the attention of the uninitiated listener and make him/her want to explore further.

I think we could add this as a "Hidden Track" to the CD and to the download version.

If I had to pick one, that would be it.

"Stew called New Orleans" why we are threadheads, title song
"Down by the Riverside" Glen David - accessible, NO brass band/gospel sound
Slither Slice choice is tough: "Alright Alright" is sort of the greatest hit choice

From Good Neighbor, I like your 3 picks, Chris, but Foot of Canal is on some other compilations, including Big Ol Box of New Orleans. So I'd go for "Broke down the door/Treme"

From Slither Slice, I think it kind of depends where the song goes on the album. There are at least five cuts I think could work well. If you want one with vocals, both "Alright, Alright" and "Hold 'em Joe" are great (I'm partial to the latter, but I realize the former is more popular here). For instrumentals, I like "Krewe Kut," "Slither Slice" and "Clean Up."

I agree with #2, and would add "Door Poppin'." I realize there is a different version on Exit to Mystery Street that we could use, but I like the version on Good Neighbor better.

From Exit to Mystery Street, I would vote for the title track. Nice for its reference to the second label name too..

Agree with both of these. Off Stew... I would add "Call Me Superstitous" and "Don't Smoke Around Susie" for consideration.

For Box Who In?, I probably like the covers of "Crazy" and "Night in Tunisia" best, but I'm guessing we'd like to avoid using covers if possible. If so, I'd go with "Party All Night" or "We'll Figure It Out."

From Slither Slice, I'd like to put in a vote for Okinawa.

Finally, I picked up Paul's new one, Farewell to Storyville, this weekend. I've done a lot of driving around in the past few days and have probably listened to it at least four times through. My initial reaction was that there are several great songs that I think could have benefitted from a little more production and/or more instrumentation, but now the stripped-down sound is growing on me. In addition to the title track, which is also a cover song, my early favorites are "Falling With Nowhere To Land" and "Breaking My Back Up Front For You Baby."

I think Paul's new album is simply amazing. It's definitely an album that grows on you with each listen.

From Good Neighbor:

Foot of Canal Street
Broke Down the Door / The Treme Song
Sisters

From Walking Through Heaven's Gate:

Walking Through Heaven's Gate
Jesus on the Mainline

From Slither Slice:

Okinawa
8th Ward Strut

From Stew:

I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say
Hey God

Plus, I'd add Paul's story on how the whole thing got started.

Assuming Alex's "You've Got to be Crazy to Live in this Town" makes it, I think "You've Got to be Crazy--A Threadhead Records Compilation" would make a great name for the compilation.

It also lends itself well to modification for use in future compilations, e.g.,

You’ve Got To Be…

Crazier
Insane
Stupid
Out Of Your Mind
Nuts
Happy
Etc., etc.

Me 3, or 4, or 5.

BTW, I agree Exit to Mystery Street would also be a great song for the compilation if that album is considered a Threadhead Record.
