The inaugural Bayou Country Superfest is scheduled for May 29-30, 2010 — the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend — at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. The festival’s producers plan to reveal the talent roster in Baton Rouge the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Those producers include Festival Productions Inc.-New Orleans and AEG Live — the co-producers of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival — and the Messina Group, a Texas-based company that specializes in promoting country concerts.

Quint Davis and his Festival Productions team have spent several years refining the concept of a country music festival in Louisiana, part of an effort to develop additional events for the company to produce. That effort intensified after owners of the Essence Music Festival replaced FPI with a different producer following the 2007 Essence.

Davis will be the Bayou Country Superfest's producer/director, the same title he holds for Jazz Fest. The Superfest is envisioned as an annual event. In June the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau committed $300,000 toward the festival. The Baton Rouge Metro Council also voted to pony up $300,000 toward costs. The Superfest is expected to boost tourism in Baton Rouge by drawing out-of-town music fans.

At least two other big country festivals have sprung up in recent years. In June, the second BamaJam drew more than 80,000 fans to a peanut field outside Montgomery, Ala., to hear the likes of Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn and Kid Rock. That festival's Web site has announced Kenny Chesney as the headliner for the 2010 BamaJam, June 3-5.

Stagecoach, launched in southern California in 2007, returns for its fourth edition in April 2010 with Sugarland, Toby Keith, Keith Urban and Brooks & Dunn. Around 100,000 people attended the 2008 Stagecoach.

To compete with those events, the Bayou Country Superfest will need to present a comparable line-up of marquee talent at Tiger Stadium. Fans will find out Wednesday exactly who the roster includes.

Tickets on sale Nov. 5. Brooks and Dunn, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban headline. Looks like a hot ticket to me, but I am not a big fan of country music:
