View Full Version : Richie Hayward Ill
Just caught onto this, but it has been going on for several weeks now. Richie was diagnosed with severe liver disease, which has now become a diagnosis of liver cancer. There was a benefit concert a couple of Sundays ago out in CA. They are still needing donations as he is uninsured.

This blows. I love Richie Hayward's drumming and I owe him a lot for creating a lot of happiness in my life. I donated a long time ago, but I might just go back for a refill.
(Not to veer too far off course, but if this isn't a good argument for health care reform, I don't know what is. You can say what you want about our universal health care system up here in Canada, but Richie would be taken care of right now, and he wouldn't need to pay a dime.)

As a longtime fan of Little Feat, I am really sorry to hear about this........
The band has given me so much enjoyment over the years, and I certainly hope the best for Richie!!!
(when I saw them play here in Salt Lake a couple of months back, I got the chance to go backstage for a min. but did not get to chat with Richie---Wish I would have had the opportunity to say hi)

Yeah, sure...free stuff for everyone.
This country can't sustain the free handouts and "bailouts" and "stimulus" and the government taking over the banking, auto, insurance and health care industries.
It's socialism and a power grab. This country was a capitalist republic where people and businesses who do well are rewarded...and everyone had the opportunity to do well.
There is no system in existence where everyone is always healthy, everyone always makes a profit and everyone gets lots of free stuff from the government.
I don't want a nanny government that thinks it knows best. There is no "one size fits all" solution.
I want LESS government intervention in my business and I'll worry about my own healthcare because in the AMERICAN system that existed before the socialist got into the white house, people had freedom of choice.
Is this the "change" you all voted for because change can be a good thing if it has a purpose..
"Change" just to be "changing" is a stupid reason to tear down a system that has worked for over 200 years.... as is being demonstrated every day by the socialists in the white house.
Sorry for Richie but he's been in a successful band for over 30 years. Why on earth should I (WE) pay for his health care?
I just can't understand how people can think that the government knows best about ANYTHING, and are willing and eager to pay even MORE taxes to those liars and scoundrels.
According to approval ratings, though, America is finally starting to wake up.

This thread is supposed to be about Richie and I hate to get political but somebody musta been asleep over the last year or so. Are you kiddin' me? The system absolutely DID NOT work! Have you checked your 401 K lately? The unchecked greed of corporate capitalism under the Bush administration almost brought the country to a complete meltdown until we, the taxpayer, bailed out the banks, somehow continuing to allow them to reward their execs with bonuses beyond what most of us working grunts see in years of work.
And not everyone gets a fair shake in this society. The ground is definitely not level. (I assume you are white and a male).
I better stop now as I find what has happened regarding this country trying to do what is done in almost every other country, provide health care for ALL citizens, very depressing.
Re. Little Feat... I saw the band at the NOLA HOB last week and I have to say Richie is missed. The drum tech guy did a decent job but he doesn't add any of the syncopation that Richie provided that gave the Feat their grease. The band was playing great but it did take a while to really find the groove. Once they started jamming out, putting "Get Up, Stand Up" and a bit of "Scarlet Begonias" in the middle of "Fatman", it got a lot better.
I do understand they were in tough position and did the best they could with dates booked. And I realize it is unfair to have to rate the guy against Richie. Just shows that is a big seat to fill, maybe the 2nd most important to the sound of the band after Lowell...
