N.O. AT SXSW
South By Southwest, the international music conference/festival/trade show/shmoozefest takes place in Austin, Texas March 14-18. OffBeat will be there, as will Galactic, who will preview tracks from its upcoming album with guest rappers Lyrics Born and Gift of Gab. The Black Rose Band will also be at SXSW, along with Bobby Lounge, the Red Stick Ramblers, MuteMath, Wativ, AM, Dash Rip Rock, and the Ponderosa Stomp. Dr. Ike and the Mystic Knights of the Mau-Mau have arranged for another road show, with a show on Friday night at Opal Divine’s and Saturday afternoon on 6th Street at Bourbon Rocks. Performers include Ray Sharpe with Augie Meyers, Jay Chevalier and the Haunted Hearts, Herb Remington, Lil’ Buck Sinegal and His Buckaroos with Stanley “Buckwheat Zydeco” Dural on organ, Tammy Lynn (Friday only), Barbara Lynn, Willie Tee, Rockie Charles, Dennis Coffey, the Flaming Arrows Mardi Gras Indians with special guest Big Chief Roddy of the Black Eagles, Wiley and the Checkmates, Bobby Patterson and Harvey Scales. OffBeat, the state of Louisiana, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and Putumayo will also host a Friday afternoon meet-and-greet at the Continental Club. We’ll see many of you there, at the Louisiana booth in the trade show, or at one show or another.
